Cats survive late collapse

NASHVILLE - Kentucky survived another dose of Memorial Magic, but it may have suffered another hit to its already suspect resumé for the season, defeating Vanderbilt.

  • Ugly is a huge understatement but for UK, it beats what would have been nothing short of a catastrophic loss. Not sure UK's RPI could have recovered from a loss like that in a year where the league is so down.

  • Is it football season yet? I don't know how much more I can take...hammer

  • It accually was a tie game but Ky won

  • If this game is any indication of how SEC play is going to be nothing is going to be easy.

  • If these guys need motivation, maybe they should be selfish. Outside Noel, they'll all be coming off the bench next year if they don't play their way into NBA now.

  • I think if the other SEC coaches prepare a zone when they play KY then they will all have a chance to beat the Cats. The coaches will simply say that we will let UK beat us from the perimeter. In some games Wiltjer will hit a few 3s and Mays may even hit a couple or so but that wont be nearly enough to supplement the lack of scoring that the zone will keep the bigs from scoring. If Vandy had converted 35-40% of their offensive rebounds they would have won by 10-15 pts. I was so proud of Ryan and his performance especially in the 1st half but he didnt have much help in the 2nd half in particular. I have predicted 4-6 losses in the SEC but Imay have to adjust that upward by 1-2 losses.

Motivation? If these guys still need to be motivated after all that has transpired this season then motivating them will be impossible. How can Cal or anyone else hope to find a way to motivate them considering everything he has tried already? This is a tale of 2 halves, the 1st being a pretty good effort but not a pretty one and the 2nd half was as ugly as can be. The only positive I can garner from the 2nd half is that they gave up the double digit lead and even fell behind by 2 but still had enough to eek out a 2 pt win with a little help from a missed shot clock violation.

  • I was joking (sort of). Hard lesson for young team that you can't stop playing on the road in SEC. Tide turns in a hurry. Probably helps UK more that it ended this way than if a 20 point blowout.

  • In my opinion, the reason this team isn't progressing as fast as Calipari's other teams is because of its personalities.

Cal doesn't have the alpha dogs he's had in the past and it takes longer to change mentality.

Poythress, Wiltjer, Cauley-Stein, Harrow, all those guys are passive guys. Not warriors like a Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

That will change with Aaron/Andrew Harrison. Guys are ultra competitive and aren't afraid to get in your grill.

  • I saw where Vandy had 18 offensive Rbds I mean are you kidding me. Also I wish Archie would drive and pull up and stop trying to get fouled everytime, just try to make the basket. Thank God for Harrow and Noel or we lose to a terrible Vandy team

Also because of talent. Mays is no Miller. Wiltjer and Harrow are no Lamb and Jones. Noel, Poythress, Goodwin are no Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist or Teague. It just happens, one class/year isn't going to equal another, especially after a title year..

Well, I personally wouldn't be too quick to write this season off just yet...I thought TE team did show some fight & fire @ UL-and perhaps this is yet another lesson a painfully young team must learn @ closing the deal (especially on the road)-I'm also not so sure Vandy didn't get part of the shot clock call back on the last out of bounds play that was clearly deflected by Vandy-and sure, Vanderbilt is a dreadful team-but a road W is a road W at this point-isn't Jan 10 a bit early to be reaching for the Pepto and filling out tourney brackets?? Are they really that much worse than they were 24 hrs ago?? They actually played almost 3/4 of a nice game-maybe we just oughta let the season play out a bit before we all head for the nearest bridge...

  • A few other quality subs on the bench would help motivate this team..Not playing at all can make you work quite a bit harder..Cal should have gotten after a few more kids to add to the depth..We have some players, just not enough quality..
