  • Matt, IMO many UK fans feel as I do: would dearly love to see Joker be a huge success as UK HC, just don't believe it'll happen since the program seems to go further down hill each year. We don't dislike, or hate, Joker. Heck, he's one of us and has given his best. Unfortunately it's not enough. Joker is a fine assistant but is in over his head in the high waters of the SEC (and UofL). It would be merciful for Mitch and the UK admin to pull the plug sooner rather than later.

After a poor start to ticket sales this season, the Louisville game will cost another 10k for most remaining games. Fans are generally thought of as a necessary evil and the only time their voices really count is when they say "nay" to tickets. We UK fans have generally encouraged mediocrity by our attendance loyalty. Now even that loyalty is being severely tested.

The SEC is stronger than ever with the expansion to 14 teams, Vandy's improvement and continued dominance of our top teams. The only way that UK can remain viable in that league, is to hire a "name" coach who can recruit on his own cognizance much as Cal was able to do immediately. Sure, we'd have to pay that coach a mountain worth of gold and he'd have to be interested in a mountainous challenge. Still, there must be at least one out there somewhere!

Btw, at a cost of 20,000 tickets costing a average of $45 for 7 games, the lost revenue would be well over $6M/yr., not counting all the additional income that an exciting, winning program generates.

  • C'mon guys..lets not start calling for JOkers head already. UofL is a top 25 team..playing at home..vs a ridiculously young Cat team. I saw some signs of life from the Cats offense..Max Smith played like a seasoned vet..I say lets let the young guys play. You cant beat a top 25 team at thier house if you lose the to battle, especially if 2 of those were fumbles going for scores.
Defense..played..horrible..no pressure from anyone other than Cobble and Ukwu. The Lb's played lousy. No swarming..no communication.. I would like to see us send 7 guys more often. Too much 3 and 4 man rushes..that wont get the job done.

  • Well, nothing new at all w/the defense--what we don't have (and aren't getting) on that side of the ball are what other SEC schools seem to have in abundance--premier athletes at DE/OLB that can pressure the passer--shoot, any average college QB given virtually unlimited time to scope the field is going to pick you apart--that being said and inasmuch as we don't have those sort of players, wouldn't it make sense to gamble and call up some blitzes every once in awhile, especially on 3rd and 4/5-plus yards, instead of waiting and dying a slow death of demoralizing conversions?? As a matter of fact, Louisville's D in Strong's first year wasn't exactly the steel curtain, but they DID give themselves a chance by rolling the dice frequently--they at least created some turnovers and on the whole, performed considerably better than they might have looked on paper--people talk quite a bit @ Joker being too buttoned-down on offense--why not take some shots on defense occasionally???
