CatsPause.com's analysts give their opinions in an eight-part 'FEARLESS FORECAST' feature. Today's topic: Who will be Kentucky's MVP?

  • I'm gonna go way out on a limb and pick a true freshman, DeMarcus Sweat. Sweat is a natural pass-catcher, long, fluid, good hands, and he has the build to fight off defenders. Aside from giving the QB a sure-handed option to go to he may be at his best in open space. I look for Sweat to be a huge part of UK's return game and look for him to be on the money end of several "to the house" plays.

  • Had originally selected Josh Clemons as my MVP, but the status of his knee still looks to be up in the air. Here's a tweet from him this morning:

@J_Clem20 What a morning at the doctors office smh

  • Tie between: Daryl Collins and Max Smith with one of those big freshmen running backs a close 2nd.

    Defensive difference maker: Dupree

  • We're going to have one of these per day leading up to the middle of next week, so make sure you check back every day and get involved. I'm curious as to everyone's thoughts. Some good categories coming up too.

  • Jalen Whitlow...

Kid looked like an elite athlete to me at Fan Day...Rocket arm and amazing quickness in rollout drills. Not sure how this translates to MVP, but the kid looked scary and big. I truly hope his gifts are exploited.

  • Offense: Robinson/Collins combo will revitalize the WR corps

Defense: Avery will be the leading tackler.....around 120 tackles or so....and be the defensive leader.

    BlueRaider22

  • Offense: LaRod King. I believe the development of Max Smith along with Robinson, Collins, Sweat, Legree, Shields & a vastly improved running game will enable King to have an MVP type year. In a perfect world, I would want the right tackle to be a close second :)

Defense: Avery Williamson. He's the leader, the coordinator on the field and brings the juice each and every down. Dupree with his sacks, TFL and "big plays" may grab more headline attention, but I look for Avery to be the "guy" for MVP.

  • Originally, I thought LB was going to be a big area of concern and it yet may be, should someone go down, but, with everything I'm hearing about Dupree and Williamson, this may actually be one of the teams strengths when all's said and done.. With the youth on that side of the ball and a year more experience, I look for 2013 to be the year the Cat's D plays on equal footing with the rest of the SEC..

  • Dupree would be my preseason defense MVP. As for offense, there is just to many unknowns right now? I guess if I had to pick it would be Collins?

  • Thanks for the all the comments and feedback. Keep 'em coming.

I agree Whitlow looks the part and OMG, Dyshawn Mobley is the first guy I'd have get off the bus, especially sporting that little running back number.

  • Seeing a lot of young names being offered up. Can't decide whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

  • I'll play and will cheat by giving an O and D MVP. lol. I'd say on D, though it's a tough call, I'm going to go with Williamson. He'll be the backbone of the Defense, and while Dupree may be the guy who makes the spectactular plays, I think Williamson's leadership, as well as his play on the field, this fall will be key for our D.

On offense, again, a tough one - do you go with a skill player, or an OL like Smith/Warford? Those guys are going to be counted on heavily to get our offense moving in the right direction. However, for me it's between LaRod King and Max Smith....and I'll go with Smith, b/c he's the guy that's going to be responsible for moving the chains, putting the ball where our WRs can catch it, and ultimately will be the leader of this offense this year. By all accounts, he's taken very well to the leadership role.

  • Offense: Offensive line

    Defense: Avery Williamson

Because we are so “young” young picks have to be good this year!

  • Offense I'm gonna take King, I think he has to be able to lead and help develop the younger WRs. He also has the potential to have a huge season.
Defense I'm taking Neloms. He might not have the most tackles, INTs or anything...but the secondary hinges on him. Even though he's not the safety where he can oversee everything, he still has to be a leader for our inexperienced secondary. I think their play all depends on how he plays and the heart he gives every Saturday.

  • I like to bet on the long shots so I'm going with Miles Simpson. I just love what Minter does with that hybrid spot and he should be in a position to lead the team in tackles and get some interceptions at the same time.

Offensively, I look for Collins to blow up and lead the team in receptions. I think teams will double cover King and take away the deep threat, leaving Collins to get catch after catch underneath and over the middle.

  • Alright, on offense I think that CoShik is gonna be the MVP for them. He showed last year his ability to keep the yards on the ground moving, and don't forget he was the one who scored the lone touchdown for us to put an end to that horrible losing streak to Tennessee.
On defense I think that the combination of Rumph and Cobble will the the MVP's for them. I think the LB's will benefit GREATLY from having two big hogmollies in the middle to eat up the blockers and allow them to roam freely and make tackles, because as some of you have said Avery has the ability to have a 120+ tackle season or better, and I think these 2 guys will be a big reason why.

    Hogan_Ryan

  • I don't think a freshman will be a teams MVP in the SEC outside of a STUD RB (ala Lattimore )

We may see a sophmore step up and be the MVP, if I'm choosing from them I would choos Dupree and Robinson.

But I think it will be an upperclassman so I think it will be Wiliiamson and King

    Farmy75

  • When our opponents start scheming for Dupree, Williamson will show them it was a mistake. Performance and Leadership, give me Williamson as the MVP on D.
On O, I will go with a guy that Joker can't seem to stop gushing over (that may be a bad thing considering recent history). Demarco Robinson for his combination of breaking big plays in not only the passing game, but returns as well.

  • Like this topic. Can't wait to see the rest of the series. Should spark some good discussion/debate.

  • Offense - I will go with Clemons if he is healthy. From what we saw out of him last year, he could be a good one if ready to go. My second choice would be King but I am leary of him being ready to be "the guy". He has the ability for sure but I wonder if he will take on the #1 mentality/leadership role.

Defense - I like Dupree and Williamson but a darkhorse I will pick is Ukwu because of the attention that will need to be paid to the other players. He has been improving each year and this year the defensive front seven will be balanced enough to allow many of them to make plays. I think Ukwu ends up making the most via sacks and TFL.

  • I am going to agree with Matt and go with Max Smith. He got a lot of quality reps last year and showed promise. Seems to be a respected leader by his peers, and if he plays well and Towles is able to RS that should make him MVP right there!
