Chad Ford chat wrap

I think MKG is highly overrated. we see a lot of super athletic players who are raw offensively come in to the league and be busts. what makes him any different
    Chad Ford (1:04 PM)

Not sure I've ever seen a player play harder than MKG. He also is an amazing finisher around the basket. He defends three positions in the pros. He's a natural leader who quickly took over a locker room filled with NBA prospects. If he was just an athlete, I'd understand the hesitation. But he's much, much, more. If he gets a jump shot, he could be one of the best players in the league someday.

Chad, in your opinion, who are the top 3 best pure knock down shooters in the draft?
    Chad Ford (1:05 PM)

Doron Lamb & John Jenkins are the two best. I think Bradley Beal will be one of them someday as well. A bit shaky as a freshman, but just a beautiful stroke.

The WHOLE STARTING 5 declares? Are all first round?
    Chad Ford (1:07 PM)

I'm assuming you mean Kentucky. And yes, I think all five are likely first round picks. Anthony Davis is No. 1 on our Big Board. MKG is No. 2. Terrence Jones is No. 8, Marquis Teague is No. 25 and Doron Lamb is No. 29 ... Lamb will be on the bubble, but I think his shooting ability will get him in. Darius Miller is No. 42 by the way and it's not out of the question that he sneaks in too.

If you're Bryan Colangelo and you can have any player in the draft not named Anthony Davis, who do you take?
    Chad Ford (1:13 PM)

Kidd-Gilchrist. Raptors need toughness in the worst way. He would immediately transform the culture there. That's why I think I'd lean toward MKG in Washington as well. Will be a tough call between him and Beal. Beal is a better offensive player. Just think teams that are mired in a losing culture will want a kid like MKG that only cares about winning.

What do you think of Anthony Davis on the Bobcats with Bismack Biyombo?
    Chad Ford (1:18 PM)

I think teams would really struggle to score in the paint versus the Bobcats. I think they'd work out fine together. Davis is going to be a better scorer than people think with a little time.

Shabazz Muhammed or Nerlens Noel for #1 pick next year?
    Chad Ford (1:26 PM)

Noel right now because of size, upside. But, if Ben Howland lets him play, Muhammad has the most potential to impact a game right now of any freshman in the country.

Just watching Isiah Austin lately it seems like he is the type of player scout fall in love with. I think he can challenge Muhammed and Noel for the #1 pick next year am I right?
    Chad Ford (1:29 PM)

If he were on Kentucky? Yeah. Just not sure with Baylor yet. The player development there hasn't really impressed me. He's a crazy talent however and he's No. 5 on our 2013 Big Board. If he has a big year, could easily challenge for the No. 1 pick.

I heard John Calipari say in a phone interview that Anthony Davis could be a 4 or 3 man in the NBA. Could you see him actually succeeding as an NBA small forward?
    Chad Ford (1:38 PM)

Some NBA scouts believe that as well. He has more perimeter game than people think. But the high probability is that he's a 4 at the next level. If he fills out, maybe a 5.

Thoughts on Marquis Teague? If he learns to shoot, can he be an all star?
    Chad Ford (1:44 PM)

Yes ... but we could say that about a lot of the elite athlete prospects in the draft. He also is going to have to be a better floor leader. But the raw talent is there.

Do the Bulls just go with best shooter available?

It's what they need and both Doron Lamb and John Jenkins could be sitting there.

I think the Bulls would prefer Lamb in that scenario based on the defense that Lamb brings as well.

And the versatility to play a bit of PG especially with the injury history of D Rose.

Huh? Couldn't be more wrong about Derrick. He has been an iron man of sorts. Despite his style of play (goes hard every play), before this year he had only missed 5 games in three years!! That's over 275 games including the playoffs. So if by history you mean this fluke of a year, then yea I guess your right lol.

That being said he has killed me this year in fantasy. Am I still in the championship? Yes. Is having him and Kobe killing me right now? Yup.

  • Rose is a slight dude. Yes thus far he has played in a lot of games previous to this season but there's been several times during each of his first 3 seasons that he's been dinged and not played nearly as well. There are several questions if Rose can stand up to the rigors of taking hits each and every night as his career goes on. Best comparison in the league for Rose right now in build is Paul and he's had a ton of injuries so there are concerns. Rose isn't a huge guard like Williams that's set to take the pounding that goes along with the reckless drives he performs when he attacks the rim.

Just my opinion but it's one shared by several analysts that Rose is likely to start missing several games a season mainly because of his frame.

  • You know what I hate? MKG and Davis are going to go to terrible franchises that have poor management.

I'll reserve judgement on that. If Mashburn's group buys the Hornets I think there's a chance they can get turned around. Davis or MKG and Eric Gordon is a damn good starting point too though Gordon has been way to injury prone thus far.

Uhhhh...Tom Benson bought the Hornets already. Either yesterday or the day before. Benson is a solid NFL owner (although I cant fathom why Brees is still not signed) but Idk if that equates into a strong NBA owner. The Hornets will be bad for a few years regardless of who owns them.

    Toronto....just relocate already...absolute waste of a franchise.

  • Tommy hadn't seen that but at least he's had success in running a franchise in New Orleans.

I'm hopeful for the New Orleans franchise as I liked the Hornets when I was younger thanks to both Mash and Rex at different points. With the Hornets it's not really that far off I don't think. Memphis was in the same position just a few years ago but they kept building around young talent and got the right vets to go with their young guys and it's working for them now. So maybe in a couple of years they can get themselves taken care of and back on track.

LOL, funniest thing I have heard all day. Tell me who doesn't belong in the following list:

    Chris Paul (6'0 170)
    Derrick Rose (6'3" 200)
    Deron Williams (6'3" 209)

Rose is a prototypical PG and is quite frankly, one of the strongest in the league. Slight build?? Do you even watch basketball?? Please, share some links of these "analysts" saying that they expect him to miss many games in the future seasons. I have seen time and time again both before the season started and after it begun that every analyst out there has said to expect more injuries this year due to the condensed season and lack of pre-season/off season workouts. Rose has held up better than Deron Williams in his short time in the league and is every bit as strong if not stronger than D-will.

Also, he played in all 40 games for Memphis (just to further punch holes in your "injury history" theory). As far as playing injured....I guess Lebron James must be "slight" and have an "injury history" as well because he has played through several injuries in his career so far as well. Every star that dominates the ball takes hits and plays through injuries, it comes with the checks buddy. You can't hide behind the "It's my opinion" thing here, because what you said is factually incorrect. Derrick Rose is very comparable physically to the very person you said he wasn't (D-Will). The fact you comapred him to Chris Paul makes me wonder if you watch NBA Basketball????

*Finally let me post it. 5th times a charm I guess.
