Clemons: What is going on?

  • Below is a link that talks about whether or not Clemons will be ready by the season.

First, I am really looking forward to seeing him play this yr......so hopefully everything is on track.

Second, as a healthcare professional that rehabs injuries such as Clemons'......What the heck is going on? I know we are not privy to all information that goes on in the locker room, but he had a meniscal surgery....correct? There is no way that it should be taking this long to rehab. Missing playing time should not be an issue. He should've been ready by Spring practice.....though I can see them holding him out just to be safe.

Does anyone have any additional information that I haven't heard about?

If Josh Clemons is not 100%, Joker Phillips is considering a redshirt for him.

  • i believe there has been word of some homesickness setting in after surgery and that may have effected his dedication to his rehab.

as a person who rehabbed an ACL i know what he went/is going through

  • Sorry to hear about your ACL. I know it's tough. I take athletes go through it daily.

An ACL and a meniscal repair are two totally different things. A meniscal repair is 1/10th the ordeal that an ACL repair is. He should've been 4-6 wks non-weight bearing after surgery and his physical therapy should've been no longer than 6-8 wks. After that he should've been allowed to hit the weights and go beserk. The most conservative surgeons want people to wait for 6 months before doing hard activity.......still long, long, long before the season starts.

  • I have no idea what its like to have millions possibly riding on recovery from injury. I'd say its tough especially still being a kid. Thats grown up stuff.

  • That's not exactly what Joker said at SEC Media Days. He was asked if Clemons is fully recovered and Phillips said, basically, that they will go easy on him in training camp to make sure he doesn't re-injure anything and they don't push too hard since he's been slow to heal. He's not going to be in pads every day early on because they want to get him healthy for the regular season. I believe the injury was a bit more serious than they originally let on too. Here's Joker's quote:

"He will be a guy this fall camp that will work about two days a week, try to get him (to) the season," Phillips said. "Hopefully by the season he's 100 percent."

In our Football Yearbook, Randy Sanders let on the injury was more significant than maybe let on:

"There is concern, sure," Sanders said. "Anytime you have a running back that has an injury that requires this much rehab, it's a concern. I've been around some really good ones who had similar type surgeries and sometimes it takes them - it's not the first year after it happens, it's two years after it happens before they really come back."

  • headslap We just cannot catch a break.... Good thing we have some other backs, but I still think the other 3 backs (not the freshman) are who we think they are, so we need Clemons or just play the freshman!

  • If he isn't healthy I really hope they use a redshirt on him. We have the depth now to make that happen.

    absolutely agree

  • Bad thing is if we do have to redshirt him and play the freshman then that would put Mobley, Clemons and Taylor all as sophomores at the same time. I hope we don't have to do that. I'd like to see a years separation between those 3 guys. At the same time you have to play guys who are ready to play. It might be that Clemons and Taylor redshirt due to injuries and Mobley plays. Regardless sounds like we're gonna need some production from Coshik, Sanders, and George. Those guys need to play and play well.

I really like CoShik as a change of pace back. I'm not sure you can count on him to be your workhorse (enter Mobley?) but he runs hard, he knows what he's doing, he's tough as nails, he can catch the ball in the flat and he understands protections. I don't think he can hold up physically if he's 'THE' guy but he's got a nice niche.

  • tWhit I agree with the recent news i think Mobley playing with Clemons and Taylor RS'ing is most likely.

  • I've said it all offseason. Its going to take 2 seasons to come back from a severe ACL tear. I'm in the process of doing that now. Playing football I completely tore mine and had to get it reconstituted September will be my 2 year mark and I'm just now starting to feel 100% on it.... Clemons being in better shape should heal faster than I have but I wouldn't expect him to heal 12 months faster than myself. Look at Gene McCaskill its taking him his 2nd year to come back as well.

Its better if Josh Clemons redshirts this year and be ready to go next year.... Let Coshike Williams, Ray Sanders, and Deshawn Mobely handle it this season. Next season Ray Sanders will be a senior, Josh Clemons will be a sophomore, Deshawn Mobely will be a sophomore, and Justin Tayler will be ready to go as a redshirt freshman too.... In the right scheme this position would be a terror to deal with.

.....It wasn't a severe ACL tear, it was a partially torn meniscus.

If the stats quoted are accurate, Mobely has the same measurables as an incoming freshman that Lattimore has now. Of course, even a horse like Lattimore got hurt in the SEC. Still, I really like Mobely's potential, and am starting to wonder if he won't play, even if Clemons is good to go.

That certainly seems like more then just a torn meniscus (even if it took additional time to heal/rehab).

Exactly. I am a Physical Therapist and do this for a living........at a prominent sports medicine clinic. Hence the reason why I started this thread.
