Coach with BCS experience only!!!!!

  • I was told by a person very close to UK athletics that several board members have already contacted several candidates to inquire about their interest. I was also told that Barnhart is being told that a coach that has coached in a BCS bowl game is going to be expected this time around.
Giving Joker a shot was a good gesture, but he was unproven as a head coach. The sentiment now is that it has to be a coach with head coaching experience already, and he has led a team to a BCS bowl.

    For what it's worth.

    12point

  • Sounds great for what thats worth.

So will someone come up with a list if all the BCS coaches & put up a list please i promise ull get a +1 from me lol

    Phillip Fulmer.......sigh

  • The only way that is going to happen is to hire a retread. I would rather hire an up and comer.

  • I have heard from the guy making the decision, that it will not be made until after the season. While you little old ladies are spreading rumors, some of us are still finishing our season of football games. Until the games are finished we will stay totally focused on doing what is best for this team and that is finishing the season by continuing to try and improve our team.

I guess you don't follow my posts. I'm Joker's wife and am hillariously delusional.

  • To the OP's point...are you saying someone who has been a HEAD COACH for a BCS bowl team or someone who has coached on a BCS bowl team.

Because if its the former there are precious few people who would even consider coming here realistically.

And those that would are a pretty scary list....here are some coaches who have been head coaches of a BCS team and would be looking to get back to a BCS school, or just ascend to a higher BCS conference.

    Truly truly frightening.

    Phat Phil
    Tyrone Willingham
    Larry Coker
    Ron Zook
    Gary Barnett
    Ralph Friedgen
    Mike Price
    Dave Wannstedt
    Jim Grobe
    Jim Tressel
    June Jones
    Mark Mangino
    Paul Pasqualoni
    Bob Davie

So again assuming your premise is correct, this is probably the pool of candidates were swimming in.

And if Im looking at the list, and try to think like Mitch would, you could probably winnow it down to three candidates.

    Phil
    Bob Davie
    and Ron Zook.

And out of that list, i think he would pick Bob Davie.

Chew on that one for a second.panic

If that would in fact be the pool, (I can't believe that I would say this) then we would have to bring Joker back until a better choice was available.
    Agreed, NO RETREADS.
    Go Cats!
    cheers

  • Davie would have to apologize for everything he ever said negative about UK in a broadcast if he came here. He was critical of everything during his broadcasts if memory serves.

Huh? You've been on every UK board for a few years now calling anyone that didn't believe Joker was the answer to UK football "uninformed" and "dilusional". Why are you giving up on him now?

    1) You forgot to add Jeff Quinn...UofCincy- 2010 Sugar Bowl...(for Brian Kelly - who left for ND in DEC)
Not that it matters...No one would want him either...He's only won like 6 games in 3yrs at Buffalo.

    2) JMO, But If Joker doesn't find a way to stick around for yr 4...I can't see a realistic candidate's list being so limited, as to just BCS level coaches...
UK would also look at NFL & mid-major conference programs to find the right guy. But If I were Mitch, I'd start looking 100miles up I75.

To me...Butch Jones seems like the type of fairly young, charismatic, high energy, offensive minded, consummate salesman that could succeed at UK. A guy that has a proven system & record of success at other non-traditional programs. (C.Mich & UC) The guy that can win the press conference, glad hand the boosters into making a bigger investment & energize a fickle fan base into taking ownership of the programs well-being. The guy that can sell UK to BlueChip recruits & get the most out of them, once they are on campus.

Yeah, but he's "no-no off limits" because we have to do things the right way. loco

  • Petrino. Get him.

    23jumpboy

  • We will get the #4 reject... Think about it there are going to be probably 4 openings alone in the SEC with us being #4. So we get 4th best available, not appealling to me.

    stonewall011

  • That's better than having the 12th best current coach. We CAN NOT do any worse.

    jeffries123

  • Houston Nutt would be on that list, too... OMG, I don't even want to think about that one.. I'm not too sure I wouldn't go after David Cutcliffe.. If you can win at Duke, you can win at Ky and he knows the SEC like the back of his hand and has some strong recruiting ties... He ain't sexy, but, the guy can flat out coach..
