Coaching Staff Idea

  • IF and I emphasize IF, Coach Sanders moves on. Tee up, Tim Couch in. Thoughts?

  • I'd love the idea of Couch being the QB coach.

  • Honestly I think Tee is still too young to be an OC but it could work. I dont know how much he truly knows. I really think they are grooming Andre to be the next QB coach. I wouldnt be hurt by Couch coming in though.

  • Had the same idea w/ Andre. Tee couldn't be much worse than Randy, IMO.

  • Tee only has two years of SEC football coaching under his belt. I like him, but he's still learning. No way they'd elevate him to OC. Then, like Tee, you have Couch who has never coached at this level. That's a lot of inexperience for a unit that's already been struggling.

  • Very true Jeff. Also I think Andre gets a low level QB coach somewhere and still has a couple years to go. Im not sure how often it happens but I would think its rare for a GA to go straight from being a GA to a position coach at his GA school. Maybe Im wrong but I dont know. Jeff or anybody does it happen often?

  • Wouldn't Tee make a great QB coach?

    Bryguy

  • Depending on what happens with Sanders. I think Tee moves into this role, if we get a good OC with WR coaching history.

Are you suggesting moving Tee Martin to OC? The same Tee Martin that admittedly said he was learning how to coach WR on the fly?

Would any other SEC school hire him as an OC? Think about that for a minute.

  • Tim has no desire to Coach, but if Leach would come here it would get him much involved in the program

  • WOW.

  • Tee in no way is ready to be a SEC OC. Woodson, IMO, will be a QB coach, whether that's at UK or not is undetermined. If Sanders finally gets a HC gig, Joker will wait and see what the new OC's strength is as far as a position coached. We could very well see Summers get the OC position and Woodson hired as the QB coach. JMO.

  • Tim needs to be involved in the UK program, but not as a coach. I've always seen Tim as someone with an overabundance of natural talent, which may not translate to coaching. In many instances the better coaches are those with lesser talent that made up for it in hustle and hard work. Under my scenario, Dusty Bonner may be a better coach than Tim.

  • I think we should pay Neal brown $450-500k as OC and let him pick his own offensive staff.

I'm torn on this, as I don't think Joker lasts but another year and then Neal would be washed out with him.

  • And we would be stuck with a huge contract/buyout.

  • I read alot of people whose opinion I trust on different UK boards and the consensus is Joker is out after next season if they don't have a winning season.

Loking at the schedule I don't see them doing much better. You drop Ole Miss to go Arkansas. 3-9 maybe 4-8.

    So, why wait?

People can talk staff changes but who comes for a lameduck coach?

    bigbluemist

  • Why wait? I can think of 1.7 million reasons that the UKAA might want to wait another year, perhaps 2 or 3 more frankly.

Unless they can sit down with Joker and negotiate a less painful way for him to go, I don't see the UKAA springing for the buyout dollars.

They will easily lose more money by keeping him, but your rationalization is the same as that of the UKAA bookkeepers, I'm sure.

Three of the top 12 low attendance games since expansion have been this year. That trend will continue this year and get worse next year.

Don't understand everyone's love-fest (not you in particular Optimus, just saying that I see these posts all the time) with Leach. From the stories and reports I've heard and read, bridges were burned and relationships hurt enough that (1) Leach would never, no-way, no-how ever get an offer to coach at UK again in any capacity and (2) no matter what the offer was or what it included, if there was one, Leach would never, no-way, no-how accept it.

What has Leach done to burn bridges at UK?

    IMHO your wrong about that.

Leach would take the job if it was offered.

  • Do either Woodson or Couch have a college degree? I agree that Martin cannot serve as OC now. Just because he is a good recruiter, at least we think he is, doesn't mean he can coach an offense. Those are two different skill sets which are not really related.

    zcats

  • Mike Leach has no burned bridges at UK. He is guilty by association with the Hal Mumme program, but he was one of the first of the original Mumme staff to leave UK.

Mitch Barnhart has absolutely no use for Mike Leach, but he had no use for a guy named John Calipari at one point as well.

Mike Leach would bring the uniqueness that I have always felt the UK football program needed to be competitive in the SEC.

I think if allowed to assemble his own offensive staff and call all of the shots on that side of the ball he is too good to wash out. I actually think he would only last 1-3 years and get a smaller D-1A head job. Hopefully to only come back as the head guy if Joker ruins what Neal would implement here.
