Been a Cat fan since August of '92
I'm all for defense. I want a defensive minded coach IN THE WORST WAY.
But what I'm also for is the changing of one of the constants I always bitch about: talent. And if Stoops can come in and start recruiting 3star and above talent consistently and build a REAL foundation for once...I'll drive to Tallahassee right now and do whatever needs to be done to get this deal done.
If I had a wife, he could have her. If he wants my dog or my kid? I'm willing. He needs a kidney? If I'm not a match I can jet down to Miami and find a Cuban who is.
Like I said, I've never claimed to have sources, but this info is from someone I would very much trust. Guess we'll see soon. I'm not even sure if I hope the info is right or not. LoL. Torn on a few candidates.
best post of the night, finally guys are getting along.
I would be ecstatic if we got Stoops
I don't always post but when I do, I try to make things interesting
JMO, but I think that's an important trait for the next UK coach given the current state of the program -- that is, the vision, confidence, and salesmanship. There needs to be a culture change, IMO. We all know UK is a difficult place to win and we all know the SEC is absolutely brutal. No reasonable fan disputes that. But it's not impossible for UK to be considerably better than it is right now and even a bit better than it was under Brooks, IMO (consistently winning 6-8 games in the regular season, maybe sneaking an extra win in a special season when things set up well).
UK is not going to get to that point with someone who spends too much time focusing on the negatives and challenges of the position. There are some positives to sell, so focus on those positives and sell recruits and fans on your vision. If the bonding comes through for the stadium improvements, the new coach will have something tangible to sell, in addition to early playing time. Recruit like crazy, develop players, and build a good defense, and UK might just rise back to the respectability we all enjoyed under Brooks.
And for the record, I'll support whomever UK hires. I'm liking what you're posting re Stoops, but I've liked MacIntyre for a bit now after reading more about him and watching his team play a little bit. I also like some of the "re-tread" candidates. But for the sake of my productivity at work, please let Barnhart name a coach soon.

So either Stoops is really fired up for the job or has already said no
What minter is hearing may be true. I've heard from somebody solid they we will get an answer from stoops within next 24 hours. Supposedly jones was never offered.
LoL. Like I said, I'm just ready for this to end.
I'm confident the kyle tucker report is almost. 100% false.
Im not sure if im gettin all jacked up because I really want Stoops.....or if I just want this shit to be over!
Btw, after a HC has been named, you think we could put like a 30 day ban on the word "sources"? That woild be great. Lol
Of all the names mentioned in think stoops has the ability to get us the talent that we've had a tough time getting. I also think that the fact he has had complete control over the defense as opposed to a "figure head" coordinator. That helps him be more prepared for hc responsibilities. He also has two brothers to lean on...
Just a my personal guess but still think Jones will be the coach.
Do you think Mitch was "foreshadowing" on Saturday when he mentioned that there were good candidates who "wanted" the job. He contrasted the difference between now and 3 years ago.
None of these guys is going to be successful unless UK steps up and changes the financial model they are operating under at this point. They can pay some coach 4 mil a year and if they don't fund the coordinators, assistants, recruiting budget, and facilities much better we will be going through the same thing in 4 years. I will be excited when I see what the assistants and coordinators are making and who they are. I am not a fan of hiring a coordinator as a HC for a tough job like UK. Being successful coordinator and assistant require a completely different skill set than being a HC. Some places almost run themselves but not UK. We need a HC. It doesn't matter if he was a great coordinator. In my opinion all of these guys are OK coaches. It is the deal that is important. That will determine whether UKFB has a chance. Here is a question. Why is it hard to believe that what Tucker wrote is not accurate? It makes sense to me and anyone who is not a die hard Wildcat fan expected that exact result of the search.
No, Tucker didn't tweet that.
To note, Tucker's twitter said an unnamed UK source said Butch Jones, Sonny Dykes and Mark Stoops have all said no but he did not give a source to the bit about agents. Separate tweets.
It goes against all logic that somebody within uk, who has knowledge
Of the search ( only highest ranking officials) would contact a reporter and tell them something negative.
Hop, I agree the source may be questionable but the message is certainly believable.
Of course it is. But any one of us could have assumed this. After all the " digging"
The "inside info from uk"
Is basically exactly what we almost all knew?
You guys have convinced me Stoops SHOULD be our next coach over MacIntyre after I was shocked to hear his name in the first place. The ONLY hangup I have about him now is his lack of HC experience, but good points have been made about his handling of the FSU D.
This is my wish list:
I don't care who the UK coach will be. He needs to have 7 to 10 yrs to build this program up and he needs the money for his asst coaches and for the recruiting budget. The state of KY has no talent so the money will need to be spent south west north what ever. He will need time to build the trust of the high school coaches and work up pipe lines.
Check out this find about UK Athletics and spending. It is pretty on target.
Kentucky football has to get in line behind basketball when it comes to getting money for facilities, but which team makes the most money?
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and it has made all the difference (Frost).
What none of this crap says to any of you is that money will neaver be the total fix. The lack of in state talent will always leave UK behind.
Ask yourself this, if you are growing up in Bama and you have dreamed your whole life of playing for your instate school would you leave for any other team away from your family and friends. NO.
Kids love there home state schools in the south. If R Cobb had been offerd a scholy by Tenn at the same time UK did he would have went to Tenn. UK offerd first and then the last min Tenn offerd. But ulike alot of kids he stuck to his commit. Most kids would not.
Just money will not fix this problem.
Funny you mention Tennessee since they have to recruit outside their state lines because of a lack of instate talent. Arkansas also seems to do fairly well with similar talent to Kentucky. Kansas State is top 5 with worse instate talent than Kentucky. West Virginia is one of the worst states for talent and they are leaps and bounds better than we are, consistently.
Oregon has worse talent, Washington has worse talent, Idaho has worse talent, Utah has worse talent, Iowa has worse talent, etc.
More money = better staff/recruiters and more recruiting bells and whistles = better players
