Maybe it has always been the lack of talented players instead of the coaches. I find it hard to believe that all 3 of these football coaches forgot how to coach when they came to UK. Just how many years experience in coaching do all three of these guys have and why is the defense always the weak link at UK?
Didn't these same coaches put player after player into the NFL from UK and the other schools where they have coached?
Now its Minters turn to be blamed for bad defense just like Brown and Archer.
The meanest dog in Taiwan.
Posted this in another thread but UK has just never been able to recruit adequately enough and consistently enough on that side of the ball. That's definitely part of the problem.
The defense in 08 with Braxton Kelley, Micah Johnson, Corey Peters, Myron Pryor, Ventrell Jenkins, Jeremy Jarmon, Trevard Lindley and Marcus McClinton is the best one I can think of and they still gave up 21.5 points and 333 yards per game.
I am for sure not a football expert but when Western goes down to Bama and loses 35-0, shutout, and then comes up to Kentucky and scores 32 points I just can't blame that on a coach. That is almost a 70 point turnaround and that has to be talent. Bama has it, UK doesn't.
You point is so true. UK has never had a SEC type defense even though they have had some very good defensive players. One or two good linemen mean nothing in the SEC, having 1 good LB is a joke, and with the way the SEC passes, having a bad secondary is a formula for a loss every time.
That's a lot of talent and they still
Archer probably got the raw deal. Brown was woefully unprepared And his Scheme was Ill devised for today's spread defenses.
Minters scheme is extremely complex. Perhaps too complex.
That's why you've heard about us "pairing" it back some.
My problem with Minter so far has been his inability to make in game adjustments. Louisville whipped us on the same stuff all game long. Western comes out after halftime and takes it the length of the field. We had all the momentum going into that halftime and then come out and lose it all. Louisville's first drive against our D of the year was probably an omen. What was it 98 yards? Geez.
