So glad to hear that Ashely is awake and responsive this morning, and able to move his arms and legs. Looking at the picture of the car, it is remarkable that he survived. Continued prayers for him that he makes a complete recovery.
The Gamecock Nation would like to offer up prayers to Mr. Lowery, his family, and the Big Blue Nation during this trying time. Here's to wishing a speedy and complete recovery for this young man. Some things are just a whole lot bigger than a football game. God Bless!
I'm very glad he wasn't hurt more seriously, but I don't think this statement is correct. There have been numerous times when cars flipped and occupants wearing seat belts were not seriously injured. HIs car being crushed is another matter, most of the time when cars flip they are not crushed. Also much of the time when unbelted people are ejected, they die. It's much safer to wear your seatbelt than to not wear it.
99% of the time I agree. This time I have to think being ejected from that car saved his life. No way anyone could walk away if they were stuck in that car.
Prayers for him. He's a good friend of mine
The family friend Kyle has been talking to says Ashely has no broken bones, sat up today and could be moved out of ICU tomorrow. Pretty amazing given the severity of the accident.
Correct. In a traditional rollover accident, the forces the occupant experiences are vertical and lateral, not forward where they would load the shoulder belt. In other words, the forces cause you'd body to move up towards the roof and out towards where your door meets the roof, not forward towards the shoulder belt like you do in a frontal collision.
Regardless, yes you are nearly always better off belted in any type of crash. Real world statistics prove that. This was apparently just one of those freak instances where he was better off being ejected.
Things looking pretty good for Ashley!!!!
Kentucky football's Ashely Lowery escapes car accident with 'scrapes, bad cuts'
More detail can be found in the link whose title is above.
Several coaches tweeted last night about it, most notable Bradley Dale Peveto, who said yesterday was a 'positive day' for Lowery and that 'He'll be back on his feet at 100% in no time ! '
I don't want this to turn into a 'should he have been wearing a seatbelt threads?'
I think it is funny that his first words upon regaining consciousness were "Am I still pretty?"
Glad he's going to be alright. I dread the day my kids are old enough to drive.
I think in this situation, it's a good thing he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.
Keep Calm & Stoops On..
Stoops has traveled to Georgia to visit Lowery this afternoon.
So from now on will his name be "Pretty Boy" Lowery?
Mark Stoops comments on Lowery:
"I went to see Ashely Lowery today and was glad to see him and spend some time with him. We’re thankful for the progress he’s made and and are hopeful he will continue that improvement. He’s heard from a lot of teammates and is grateful for all the good wishes and prayers that so many people are offering on his behalf. We ask the Big Blue Nation to join Ashely’s football family in continuing to pray for a speedy recovery."
Also, Thomas Beisner at KSTV talked to a family friend:
KSTV talked with Doug Stutsman, the spokesman for Ashely Lowerys family, about the current condition of the UK safety, the outpouring of support and the long-term prognosis.
Statement just released from Lowery's family:
"“On behalf of the Lowery family, we’d like to thank everyone for their concerns and prayer. From Georgia to Lexington, we can’t thank everyone enough. You are like family to us.
“The only official comment from the hospital is that his condition has been upgraded from stable to satisfactory and his injuries are no longer life threatening. We expect a full recovery. Again, thank you so much for all the prayers and support.”
Nah.. Lucky fits better.
