Yesterday, we did offensive.
What should be Kentucky's greatest area that needs addressed on the defensive side of the ball in this recruiting class?
I will say linebacker. UK needs more depth.

Definitely LB and CB. Then depth everywhere.
Linebacker, Linebacker, and Linebacker. Juco and High School

Linebacker is the obvious need here. I'd say 4 linebackers would be ideal. I also agree with CB. I didn't think it would be a need with Willis and Hytche coming in with what we already have. However by the sounds of things, the staff isn't exactly thrilled with what they're getting from Harmon, Tiller, and Quinn which is kind of disappointing.
Agree completely with the need for LBs, and I think thats one of the areas Stoops really refers to when he mentions areas that need improvement. That and DBs. Take a look at the link from my previous post on how Stoops D have LBs cover all short and Intermediate zones and sacks primarily comes from coverage. DBs and athletic LBs are the top target positions in my opinion.
I also have a feeling that the comments coming from practice indicate that when the offense is "clicking" the defense is just beeing worn down and play poorly and vice versa. Also, that we still don't have the cover 3 down path. Might be the reason we haven't heard much at all about our CBs so far.
Dont know if this been posted before, but the article gives a very good insight into Stoops defensive scheme.
I would say cornerback also. I believe the line and linebackers are in better shape than cornerbacks.
Corner Stoops likes big physical athletic corners I do think Quinn has ability to be a starter but Two years from now we will have 6' 190 corners all up and down the depth chart not 5'10 170
Both Tiller and Harmon are bigger athletic corners. Quinn plays much larger than his listed size...kid can hit for 175. Nate Willis will come in and lock up one spot. Eric Simmons is 6'0 190 and has great speed.
I think Linebacker. We need more talent in the 1st 3 and more talented depth. Henderson, Simposon,Williamson,Thomas, Forrest can play some ball..but you need 8 to 10 SEC quality 'backers and Uk doesnt have that yet. I see us taking 3 to 4 LB's in this class.
I guess i just do not see the talent at corner that you see are pass defense was putrid last year and they have certainly not been getting any votes of confidence this spring. Tiller is listed at 6' 170 that is pretty thin for an sec corner.
I think its LB too.
Hands down without a doubt LB. We need 5-6 LB and could take on 7 depending on attrition this summer. I fully expect we will see kids leaving and us signing a full class.
CB would be my 2nd position of most need on defense followed by DT cause we need more depth there and have 3 guys that are SR's this year.
Outside of Khalid Henderson I'm not sure we have a single LB on the roster going forward after this year that we can count on. So yeah I can definitely see us taking 5-6 LB's. I hope guys like Josh Forrest, Kory Brown, Miles Simpson, and Pancho Thomas will step up and at the least be guys we can count on for depth going forward.
I still have hope that Rancifer can both add weight and get it together. Kid can be a headhunter and has plenty of speed.
I'll disagree...and go with CB over LB.
1. Williamson is a very good MLB. I'll go on record as best MLB at UK since Marty Moore days. Better than Micah Johnson...better than Braxton Kelly. (I view the best LBer as Woodyard and Trevethan...but they were more WLB vs. MLB to me).
2. Khalid Henderson has good looking appeal to me in limited time as true Fr. I think he'll be more than average his last 2 years at UK.
3. I'll agree the other LB spot looks very iffy this year.
1. We almost have to hope WIllis and Hytche can lock up 1 for sure and hopefully both CB spots. If they are legit, we'll be OK...but if one isn't quite as good/ready, we'll be in for a long season.
2. Quinn was OK but again hard to tell on last year's dreadful team.
3. I seen little of out Harmon, Tiller, etc...TIller looks like a safety to me...not quite quick in the hips to play CB. And Harmon has the look of a long kid...maybe more suited at safety as well.
I just donot see very much talent at corner right now. Quinn was by far the most impressive last year and he was no world beater. Tiller is ok but looks very stiff for an sec corner back. Behing them you have Shawn Blaylock lightly recruited Harmon a walk on and Eric Simmons a guy that has been here for 4 years and has like 3 tackles for his career. I think Stoops is praying Willis is Nfl caliber and Hytche is ready to play some snaps.
I think we have a few guys on defense that are very talented and could have big years. The key is gonna be can Stoops and company coach up the rest to play harder than any team to make up for talent disparity. I think Lowery Williamson Dupree Rumph Big Z all have huge years. We need more though.
LB is obviously the spot with the least ammount of talent and depth. It MUST be addressed with SEC talent in this class.
Also, UK is losing Rumph and Cobble to graduation after this season. Nobody has been able to push those 2. UK needs to nail down a couple of really talented DT's in this class as well.
Looking at this you have to take into account guys coming in. At corner you've got Willis and Jaleel coming in. We've got nobody coming in at LB clearly the weakest spot.
Yea, don't know how you could argue anything over LB. We need more talent everywhere but we need more talent at ALL the LB spots yesterday. That likely means we are giong to have to hit the JUCO ranks hard for some LBs to come in ready.
team speed at every defensive position is UK's biggest need.
The meanest dog in Taiwan.
Arent Quinn and Tiller both 6'0+ ?
Tiller is 6' but Quinn is a few inches shorter. To me, there isn't much difference between 5'10" and 6', it's more about the wingspan to me and the fluidity of movement. I think Harmon is the best prospect of the three, but honestly none of those guys were ready last year and I am not sure they are this year either. Should have never come to this, but it is what it is.
I hope Willis comes in ready to be plugged into the starting lineup, he definitely seems to have that mentality you need to have at the position, we'll see how talented he is really quick. If he can come in and lock one spot up that is really going to help us.
I figured Harmon would be ready to step in and lock down a starting spot this spring because of his size and the experience he gained last year. So far that hasn't happened which has me a little bit worried on whether or not it will happen. Its not like Quinn/Tiller are really tearing it up either. Its early still yet though so we'll see. If Willis doesn't come in and earn a starting spot in the fall then I'll really be worried about the Corner position. We need a ball hawking Free Safety that can disrupt as well. No telling how many times the last several years that guys have just been so far out of position in the secondary as to not even be in a spot to get eyes on the ball. Thats crap is hard to watch time and time again.
