It is not right that a father or player air their dirty laundry in public. This is communication that needs to occur between the father, player and coaches, not on a blog or article.
In an attempt to bring the conversation back to what the central issue should be, what is most damning for the coaching staff is the fact they had no No. 2 guy ready to go in and play. Newton was practicing primarily at another position, and the guy behind him doesn't know the playbook and hasn't (apparently) been given many reps outside of a particular "package." The site mods brought this up previously, and we shouldn't forgot that main point. It's inexcusable.
As far as the "Play-Towles-Now" issue is concerned, we knew well prior to the FL game that the staff tabbed Whitlow to be the guy ahead of Towles this year. Debate that all you want, but none of us observe practice, so it's pretty hard to pound on the staff if we haven't seen the practice battles. It is pretty clear Towles is not going to play this year. And, if this staff is still around next season, I doubt he will play much next year (with Smith still around) unless he has an unreal offseason and steals the summer workouts from Smith.
This^ Towles father needs to shut his trap and stop trying to further flame the despair and agony in the fan base. Towles should RS and get some separation between him and Smith. He can compete the next few years ad win the job if he truly believes he is the best choice.
