Next years squad has to be like A dream come true for Cal. Not just because of the overwhelming talent, but because of the depth and diversity of the team makeup. The x and o chess game that goes on between the best minds in college basketball is part of why these guys do what they do. Certain teams have strengths and try to force others into playing how they want. I just don't see how UK is going to be forced to do anything next year. It's like cal has a whole chess board of queens playing against pons and rooks. He has so much versatility to play any way the opponent wants and be better at it.
Other teams are going to have to go into the game hoping UK had a terrible night by five or more guys and they play their absolute best.
There are probably only three or four games on The schedule they can lose. They'll surely be ready for those.
Anything can happen but I could not be more excited about the upcoming season. Unless I was coach cal.
2012 was also kind of like dream team for Cal.
it basically had everything, and you didn't need bench because they all played their guts out most of the season. Versatility, skill, athleticism, and etc.
Once they get Wiggins, it will be a completely different vision. Not even sure if Coach Cal dreamed of it till this year. Probably didn't think it was possible.
I pray that ur right on Wiggins....i cant wait until the Mcdonalds game.
Could be the 40-0 season Cal has mentioned a time or two. It'll be tough to go undefeated no matter good you are, though.
well, i don't know anything about wiggins.
I am just hoping for it.
Practices are going to be insane. They Are going to have to go all out to earn pt. they will also be going against better players than they will see on a game night. The only thing that might be a problem is an older team with a lot of physically mature guys that can beat them up physically. However, with your two guards at 6'4" and over 200 pounds and the size of the frontcourt platoon I don't see anybody in college that can do that. Maybe a strong zone team like Syracuse could get hot on one night.
With Wiggins ... the only IF I see is if the team can come together with no attitudes or issues like the '12 team ... if they do that, then we could be looking at a truly historic season and it's not really going to matter much who we play or how well they play. It will be Secretariat against the field.
And from all I've heard or read about the incoming guys, they all seem to be high-character guys who are looking forward to the opportunity to play together and do something special.
yeah, i doubt this. You can't out physical this incoming team. You just can't.
You got twins, who are 200+ lbs. I can't think of a team that has 200+ on both of their guard position.
Also, then your SF is young, who isn't strong yet. (If we get Wiggins, he will be here, but he isn't strong yet either)
Then you got PF...Julius Randle. ROFLMAO, who's going to bully who? I say he will be the one giving out the punishment.
Then your center is either Dakari Johnson 260+ and WCS his second year (250+).
I think as a team we are probably 100 lbs heavier in our starting line up..
Also, i am not sure why Zone would work well against this team. All around much more skilled players in each position. You got much stronger rebounders who can create more position.
If we get Wiggins, there will be no weakness for this team. Physical play will not bother them, and with thier ability to pass, shoot, and break people down off the dribble, zone will not be a problem. The only weakness will be youth, and I expect them to play with much more maturity than thier years would indicate.
Hi. USC fan here. I just wanted to say Kentucky has an amazing class and I hope you guys get Andrew Wiggins. I think your recruiting class is great, but getting Andrew Wiggins would take it to another level . What do you guys think are the chances Andrew Wiggins signs with Kentucky? I keep hearing there may not be room and his parents want him to play at Florida State?
That is my thought exactly. The way to attack that team would be to out physical them. I just don't see any team next year that could pull that off.
I don't think zone would kill this team. I just think its the only chance a team might have to get at them. On a night where the midrange jumpers aren't falling a really good team may have a chance. No way anybody can stop this team man to man. There are too many matchup nightmares. Everyone on the floor besides wcs if he returns can beat you off the dribble. It should be fun to watch. Wiggins makes it unguardable.
Again on paper this team is phenomenal. I just hope folks have a little patience and let them break into the college game. The first month or so can be bumpy regardless of the talent. I remember the wall/cousins team avoiding some really bad early losses by the skin of their teeth. By march next year, NOBODY will want to be in their bracket!!!
I'd say this is correct. Randle said when he let the staff know his intentions Cal looked shocked.
That wall/cousin team always had major glaring weakness. They couldn't shoot. SO their half court offense was very stagnant, and not smooth. Add to that they couldn't shoot FT. However, they were physical monsters. Wall could be said is one of the most athletic PG EVER, and you got Cousin who could become one of the most dominant bigs in NBA in his generation. Bledsoe is called little lebron in NBA.
anyways, like 2012 team, the way next year's team is going to lose is if they don't come out playing (Indiana). Playing laid back and not focused. Also 2012 team lost to vandy because of fatigue. It was weird watching Davis not able to get to the drivers. He looked gassed most of the game (none issue next year).
Like in '78 when Joe B had a great team of youth and experience, they were expected to win it all and some in the media said that team did not get to enjoy the season because of that pressure. If this next group can be molded into what Cal wants, and this past year players can blend in with the freshmen, Cal will be very happy. The pressure will be great, and the media will say that ONLY a NC will make their season a success but I think Cal will coach this team way differently then any we have seen because it will be us against the world. I hope Cal, staff, and team can embrace this next season and make it a very very great season.
I truly believe that with or without Wiggins you could see a 40-0 team next year. Only thing I worry about is them not being challenged all year then getting to the final four and taking some team for granted and that team having a career night. I seriously think that they could be that good. And thats with or without the best high school player since Lebron. But that would also be assuming we get WCS back also.

It's definitely not out of the realm of possibility, but I caution the fans from heaping that pressure on them.
I'm not as afraid of the scenario you laid out if we get two or three guys back because they should have learned to never take an opponent lightly. Hopefully that will be the case.

Yeah and the scenario I mentioned is assuming we get Archie, WCS, Poy and Kyle back. I really think the Harrisons are that good. The are natural born leaders. The kind of kids that either you get in line with or they get you in line. We're gonna have depth that we've never had before at key positions. I just don't see a weakness at all. It will probably take a while for everybody to learn their roles and for Cal to learn offensively what fits the team the best but once that happens look out. I can see this team really making an effort to do it defensively considering what happened last year. Its just gonna be one hell of a ride made that much better due to the struggles this year.
I wasn't disagreeing by any means and I don't think you took it that way, but I'm just hoping us fans don't hope for 40-0. Can this team do it? You listed most of the reasons I think it can be done.
I'm just hoping that if we look back and this team goes 39-1 we aren't sitting here saying they should have beat X team. Now that I think about it, we will probably say we had the best team ever if they went 39-1. I guess I'm more worried about the pressure getting to this group more than any deficiency on the hardwood. I firmly believe this squad will be capable of beating any National Champion team in my lifetime with the final chapter has been written.
Agreed. 40-0 is a pipe dream for me certainly not an expectation. Only thing I really care about is hanging #9. I don't care if we go 27-10 as long as we hang that banner. If we don't it will be a disappointment but even then its gonna be awesome watching this much talent on one team.
I think these kids are going to be looking at the biggest average margin of victory in the tourney next year And trying to smash it. They are that talented and deep to be looking at history. They might get it done on the regular season also. The schedule does not look all that tough considering the sec. Florida will be good but everybody else has the potential to be status quo or worse.
I wonder if Cal will do some things differently defensively if we get 2 of 3 back of WCS, AG, and AP and add Wiggins. It would be nice to see him implement a few different presses to change things up. I think with that depth that playing a little faster would get more guys minutes and opportunities to score.
I just want to caution everyone. Remember these guys are still JUST freshmen. They haven't played one college basketball game. We may have 7 new players to integrate with a few YOUNG veterans. That takes time. Yes the talent is there but the experience is not there yet. I agree by the end of the season we SHOULD be a VERY SCARY TEAM!!!! Just ENJOY the ride!
The game that makes me think this will be a tough feat is the early season Champions Classic game with a solid MSU team. This team will be über talented now doubt, but that game will be a war. I guarantee that.
I totally agree with you! I have that one circled as a possible loss. I haven't checked to see who Michigan State has coming back though.
