If a proven coach such as a Petrino will not come here for whatever reason, then I think that UK should go after a young, enthusiastic coordinator that people are high on and think have good potential, like a Kirby Smart. While Rich Brooks did work out for UK, I'm not sure how many times you are going to be able to go get 60+ year old coach to get their batteries charged to rebuild a program in the state we are in.
I like Smart and the fact that if he were offered and accepted the job, one would think he would be extremely motivated to succeed. He also isn't that much older than the players so he may be able to relate to recruits a little better than an older coach. That said, UK is going to have to give the coaches a little more of a recruiting budget than they do for BBM. With our lack of in-state talent, we should have one of the top recruiting budgets in the SEC.
My only drawback to Smart would be that if he ended up here and did turn UK around and make them a competitive team, you know Georgia will come calling in 3-4 years. It's where he played ball and Richt will have been there 15 or so years. That is a long time in todays game. I could live with that chance though.
Come on guys!
It is a waste of time and space on this site even mentioning Pete Carroll. He works in Seattle for billionaire Paul Allen and makes 6.7 million a year for the Seahawks.
