Did anyone catch it? I missed it (brain fart). What was his attitude like? Did he put out anything other than the normal coach speak? - Thanks.
Most of it was the same old ra ra calls. The last two callers had good questions and Joker answered basiclly we have to play better, do better as coaches and play the young guys. The last two Joker statements I agree heavily on when it comes to defense!

mostly coach speak. a caller asked about using timeouts before half to preserve clock and drive for a td or field goal, joker said, "we were just tying to get to halftime and regroup". this really bothered me yesterday. your down 22 - 7. u need point before half and you leave 3 timeouts on the board. really?
I'm mostly a joker supporter but stuff like this and 4th and 2 vs UT have essentially made me give up on him. my hope is that it works out. but stuff like that is almost indefensible.
A lot of uneducated questions...same old same old...and some dude that called in to brag about himself. One guy suggested UK start using a wishbone defense, like he used to play in peewee football. Can't believe people subject Joker to this foolishness.
The people who call in are horrible. I do like that he said we need to play the younger players though.
Thanks for the responses.
The wishbone thing was hilarious! I don't think anyone knew what to say. How that caller got threw is beyond comprehinsion!
joker coaching not to lose, instead of to win. if he puts effort in a drive before the half, we could have been back in the game. instead, he quit.
What the hell are you talking about? Very bad post!
What are you talking about? We were driving for a score when Sanders fumbled inside tha 20 with 3:15 left in the half. Miracle of miracles we forced UL to punt after several plays. We got the ball back at the 12 yard line with only 27 seconds left in the half!! I just checked those times on the replay, I didn't think I was totally forgetting what happened. This was the 1st time we stopped UL. So you think it would have been prudent to chance a TO deep in our own territory rather than run out the measley :27 seconds? And I am pretty sure Joker called an onside kick to start the 2nd half. So this is quitting? I know folks are pissed about the game, I am too, but come on.
Yeah, I agreed with Joker...they needed to regroup. Way, way too many bad things could have happened their to kill them right before the half. You would be setting Strong up to kill your young QB, a great chance at another TO deep in their territory, and the best reward you could really hope for is a long FG attempt.
I understand your reasoning but disagree.
Joker showed his guys that he didn't have enough faith to attack before the half ended. There was plenty of time to at least get into position for a score.
I guess it's just the career military in me but when the general gives up when he has a shot then that sends a message which is felt down the ranks.
Terrible ass move on his part IMO, he hasn't learned much in his third year.
And if the general says "charge" and his troops are slaughtered? What is the feeling then? Everybody has their own opinion but I would bet the mortgage that if you asked 32 NFL coaches and all the knowledgable footbal analysts (Holtz not included, haha!) that at least 90% say Joker made the right call in that situation. Our D was already demoralized, had just made their 1st stop, and we had to go at least 53-55 yds to even have a shot at a long fg. Definitely the right move, imho.
Listen, I understand and respect your reasoning but if we had called a TO then that meant we had two TO's and over a minute remaining with an offense that showed it could move the ball. It just doesn't make much sense to me.
We should have at least tried to move the ball, UL had already used two of their to's so we really didn't have to worry about punting to them if it came to that.
Why in the hell should we lay down at that point? It was a dumb-ass and defeatist decision IMO.
We had 27 seconds when we got the ball back. I guess you are saying Joker should have called the timeout before they punted? I can agree to that, but still not sure I would want to try to move 50 some yards in such bad field position. We were still in the game, and to chance a TO deep for a possible long FG attempt doesn't seem like a real good risk/reward situation to me.
Hey, there was 1:15 on the clock when we stuffed them on third down. We had three TO's on the clock but let it run down when they punted.
Like I said before, I'm not a coach but we had plenty of time to make a couple of plays instead of folding.
I totally agree with rob65 on this. I really want Joker to succeed, but the defeatist philosophy drives me nuts. I want a coach who always believes if there is 10 seconds left, he can find a way to score. I want a guy that is never content to pick up the ball and run to the locker room. Just a philosophy thing. Sure it will backfire from time to time. It will also work out some as well. It shows the team you have confidence in them to score and shows fans you are aggressive. On another note, i want a coach that always attacks the endzone deep on the first play after a turnover, but Joker doesn't do that either. I like Joker and think he's a good guy, but i want a coach the is absolutely ruthless on the offensive end and high risk and aggressive on the defensive end.
And those NFL coaches would have NFL calibre players to try to make the second half comeback.
I agree should have called TO and soon as we stuffed them and then worked the short passing game like we had been and took a couple of shots once we move down field a little. Never know when somebody is gonna break free on a short pass and take it to the house. Thought that was bad that we didn't try to do something. It wasn't like we were playing terrible offensively. Joker is gonna have to change up his thinking a little. We're gonna have to try to put points on the board any time we can and use the entire playbook to do it.
Absolutely correct, those saying we only had 27 seconds are completely wrong and not remembering the game situation. We sacked Bridgewater with 1:15 left, could have instantly taken a timeout, then we would have received the punt with over a minute and 2 timeouts left. college teams ought to practice their 2-minute offense at the very end of every practice, that was the time for us to put ours on the field and see how Max could execute it. Instead we waived the white flag, and took all 3 timeouts and stuffed them in his windbreaker. Just like all 3 of his second half timeouts, as well.
Just seems incredibly inconsistent for a coach to be so conservative as to surrender the last 75 seconds of the first half, but then in the 2nd taking such risks as an onside kick and fake punt.

1:15 in college is a ton of time. that was weak by joker. those are the things that are indefensible to me.
I generally support joker but when you're down three scores every possession becomes critical to get points.
1 min with 3 time outs is like having 2.5-3 mins on the clock, NFL is a different story... I've saw college teams drive 80 yards with no time outs and less than a minute remaining... Bad move by Joker, but oh yea he'll call a fake punt on 4th and 16 with 70 yards of field in front of him...

I actually thought the fake punt was a good call and when were about about to punt I thought to myself look out for the fake punt here. Also thought Foster was a little faster than that. If he gets around the edge he's got a first down. I'm sure people would be complaining about the onside kick if it didn't work also. Obviously if the D was playing better I doubt either of those calls would have been made.
Well Foster might have gotten the edge and then upfield to the 1st down marker if everyone on the punt team got the playcall that the fake was being employed. Seemed like 2 or 3 guys on UK's left side streaked downfield to tackle the punt return rather than attempt to block the UL defenders from swarming our punter....especially Mike Douglas.
Yeah, I thought for a minute we were watching roy williams in basketball, lol.
Please, an onside kick and a fake punt in one game, try thinking before posting, it will help you through the hard times.
Lets see, the facts are, we were only DOWN, 15 points. And forgetting the time left, 27 secs or 60 secs, wasn't we on the 11 yd line after the punt? And even though I would have liked to see us play that time out, what would some of you said if Smith had thrown an interception for another score. Two scores is possible coming back, THREE scores would have been somewhat impossible with the way our defense played.
