There is one name that is out there that I have heard no one mention on this board, not for the UK job or ANY job for that matter. And if he isn't being mentioned for any of the big jobs, am I just missing something? Is something holding him back?
The name I am referring to is Gus Malzahn (if that is how it is spelled). I literally have not heard his name mentioned for one single job. If we do go on to hire a new coach as most of us expect (hope), then I think this guy would be perfect for here! Offer him some money and get him here. His offense is second to none! Look at the disaster that is Auburn since his departure. He is going to be the person responsible for Chizik's demise. I think this guy can do here exactly what Mumme did here, which is bring excitement back to UK football! We will have a decent QB next year, and we will have some decent receivers and backs. Put them in an offensive system such as his and I really believe we could compete with a lot of the teams on our schedule next year.
Will someone please tell me what I am missing? Does he have some kind of binding contract with his current school? Inform me people because I am curious and don't feel like doing the research! Haha.

I think everyone is so disgusted at this football staff and administration it's hard to keep on discussing it for many.
98% of the fan base would prefer a new coach, but many are scared to death to be underwhelmed with another hire.
If the next coach isn't a "big" name he better have one he'll of a personality because he is going to need to unite this fractured fan base.
I bet Arkansas calls him.
I agree with you; he would be a great offensive hire and it seems that most fans get more excited about a high powered offense. However, one thing that Malz had at Auburn was Cam Newton; he wont have that here at UK. At least not next year; when you have a multi-demensional, freak athlete, you can have a fair amount of success because teams really can plan that well for him. But if we can be patient then I suspect he can be a great hire. He has experience in the SEC being at AU and he also has ties to the south. He played football there in high school and now is coaching at Arky State. Interesting name and I have to give you a +1 for mentioning him!
I wonder if he has been contacted by someone through back-channels and told them he would take the job? I just find it hard to believe that this guy is not being mentioned at all. Someone mentioned Arkansas. It would be really easy for them to have contact with him being in the same state. Auburn would be another possibility, especially after they are seeing how pathetic their offense is after his departure. Whatever the case, if we choose to part ways with Joker I feel we definitely need to be in touch with him. I think that he really could be the next big thing.
Your team. All the time.
Can we have something non VIP thread as I am a poor Master's Student lol. I think Malz should be considered because of his experience and success.
Don't think Gus is very likely candidate. He turned down Vandy two years ago and they were likely a better situation than we are at this time. Plus that's assuming he doesn't get the Arkansas job and with his ties there and his offense it's very possible that he does.
Dykes and Koetter sound like the guys that are the early front runners.
I would gladly take Koetter....
Koetter is an excellent offensive coordinator, but doesn't enjoy the additional head coaching duties, e.g., public relations. He has a prickly personality and doesn't mesh well with fans, boosters and university administrators. That's fine if you win; however, his overall record at Arizona State was mediocre and had a losing record in the Pac-10, including 0-12 against California teams.
I don't disagree with any of that from what little I know about Dirk. Just throwing out there his name is popping up a lot and he'd be a good pick up for UK from what little I do know. He wasn't great at Arizona State but for the most part he beat teams he should and got to the decent bowl games. Being honest if he does that at UK everyone will love him. Also the losing record in the Pac 10 is somewhat misleading, he had two years which he was absolutely atrocious, his first and 3rd years at ASU where they were 1-7 and 2-6 every other year he was right around .500 in the conference. He's been a good offensive coach in the NFL with both Jacksonville and Atlanta.
My main questions with Dirk would be how his attitude would do around here and can he recruit the south. Think his NFL experience in both Jacksonville and Atlanta would help that but still it's something he's never done before.
