Just saw on UK Athletics that the former safety is back on the team! Glad to see him. Back iin blue!
Safety Dakotah Tyler has returned to the Kentucky football team, Coach Joker Phillips has announced.
could be a big addition kid can run and has some nice size at safety tyler could be a sleeper to start
Matt posted this on the board this AM.
These "on the team, off the team, then back on the team" situations rarely work out....anywhere. I am not expecting much out of Tyler at this point, but I hope he proves me wrong.
Tend to agree in this case Dakotah won't make a big impact.
1. We've replaced him w.o missing a beat with Neloms and Benton last year. No signs of Neloms moving to CB, even though this may give us flexibility to move Neloms to CB if things don't pan out with Caffey/Rice.
2. We've also got some depth (unproven) built up at safety in Faulkner and possibly Dixon if he goes safety vs. CB.
3. In brief snaps 2 years ago..Tyler is a solid athlete, but not elite or freaky...and didn't look instinctive out in safety like Neloms looks like at times.
Always nice to have some depth, but barring a ton of injuries...I don't see a big impact going forward.
If you can have an athlete of Dakotah's caliber on special teams, and save those snaps from either a starter or a less talented player, that's a win, so that's always a good thing. Also, if I remember correctly, his biggest issues as a DB were in his head and not his talent, hopefully his time away was good for that. So, yeah, not an impact player perhaps but I'm betting a solid contributor. Plus, I just have to pull for a player that manages to get himself back together and "remake" the team.
Guys i'm not on here to argue but I do disagree alittle... I 100% agree he didn't look like a Bacari Rambo 2 years ago in limited play but one thing is certain, he runs very well and hits very hard. If he can get back on track this could allow us to redshirt Wright, and maybe a few others like Harris and Zack Blaylock (big maybe)... He's also one more very athletic special teamer... Here's a kid with 4.4 speed that can cover kicks and take your head off, I love it that we got him back... No he's not 6'1 215-220# like Ashley Lowery but he's a kid that fits the free safety position in our defense pretty well (up in the box and covers the slot at times)... I could see Tyler playing Bentons' position pretty well. I think it's great we got him back, another very capable SEC athlete to add to special teams, I love safeties that play bigger and are very physical...

Would expect that he will at least contribute on special teams. Hopefully he picks up Minter's system relatively quickly and shakes off the rust from the year off.
Tyler stated from the very beginning that he would be back. He has kept his word and in today's society that is very commendable. I for one am proud he is a wildcat and I think he can be an example to others who are having similar difficulties. He has shown he has work ethic, determination, and self pride. I am excited for him and hope he has great new found success.
the kid was good enough to see meaningful snaps as a true frosh and now he want contribute i dont think the staff even takes him back on schollie if they did not believe he has nice upside.
Great point that he was not here when Minter's system was implimented. So just hoping he provides some help on special teams is probably the best reasonable expectations of his contributions this season.
I think he helps because it gives us another body that we can potentially move over to CB from the S position. I'm not saying he is moved but of the current crop it allows someone to move over to a position in need of bodies.
I think MJ Dotson and K_time just don't want to get their hopes up. I'm kinda in the same boat. I hope he contributes and does a nice job but I'm not counting on it.
C'mon guys he played as a freshman so you know he's capable. It's ok, you can get your hopes up a little. This is definitely a plus, as he was aggressive and will fit in better in Minters system IMO.

Thats the hope but you gotta admit it hasn't worked out much with guys leaving the team and then coming back. Of course the upside is that he must be doing something right to get back on the team. I just consider it a long shot and hopefully I'll be surprised. Plenty of other guys to be excited about anyway. Ashley Lowery is legit. Neloms is a mainstay. Got a lot of nice depth and experience already at the position.
This. I wasn't saying he isn't physically capable. It's just that it rarely works out when guys are dismissed from the team and let back on, especially when they miss am entire year of football.
History has prevented so many KY fans from getting their hopes up. I think that is why we now see factions formed among the fanbase. A certain group (i won't table them) consider themselves for realists because of history, while some want to remain positive despite what history tells us.
I have always been an overly optimistic person. Does that make me a "blind fan" if so then ill accept that i guess. I don't blame any fan for being negative honestly, again because history suggests it is warranted. But imo, sports are all about being optimistic. The possibility of what could be rather than what probably will be.
Isn't that what makes NSD so awesome? The possibility of what could be with our recruits? Tyler has the potential to be a very solid player and that should be exciting to all of us. In the end its only sports. Why not get amped up? If we are wrong and things don't pan out then we still get an opportunity to get all amped up again thru next year and the year after that and so on. In 07' a lot of us really believed we had something going into the fall and we ended up being right despite what everyone else told us. I can't wait to enjoy that kind of season again.
If anything else, i just get amped up for the simple fact that college football RULES! Tailgaiting with friends, watching the games from CWS, and just being a fan. Winning is just icing on the cake.
He is a fine athlete, very fast and he hammers people. You have to give him credit for working his way back onto the team. The guy is a player. I think he makes the rotation and contributes on specials and as a DB. He allows us to RS a true freshman and depens the talent pool while keeping us involved with a talent rich program in Indy in Pike HS.
was he dismissed from the team or did he just leave for personal reasons like the story indicates?? I'm not sure
We have plenty of bodies at Corner - young for sure but talented.

Sure looks like a 1 year suspension for some reason or violation
What? If the story said he left for personal reasons why would you think he was suspended? Doesn't make any sense?
he's one of "those" mentioned in tommys post. and maybe he didn't read the article...or other posts.
No, it doesn't. Stop making shit up. "Stuff" being that it looks like a one year suspension. The information given was "personal reasons" and there is nothing to indicate otherwise. When there is nothing to indicate otherwise, saying that it looks like something else is making shit up.
Please don't lump me into the LOD type crowd. I'm an overly optimistic person as well.
