No idea where Barker will land, but I have no idea why any QB with aspirations of playing in the NFL would entertain the idea of playing for TOBC. No doubt Carolina has a nice program and TOBC is a HOF coach, but he's also a coach who treats his quarterbacks like they're a stray cat that he caught unloading in his flower bed. The only QB he has ever tutored that found gainful NFL employment has been the much maligned Rex Grossman, and that was eons ago at Florida. The only QB he has produced at Carolina that has any name recognition has been Stephen Garcia, but for all the wrong reasons.
I said a College Football Team's history....not history itself.....
I'm not qualified, nor worthy. Stick with He who is and will always be.
I have a question......was it Spurrier's fault what happened to Stephen Garcia???
Each of those things could happen, that's fair, but most high level competitive athletes are confident in their own ability and how they can influence their own destiny.
If one considers what you say about Stoops leaving in 2-3 years, or KY not finding success until 6-8 years from now, wouldn't it also be fair to raise the issue of Spurrier retiring within the next few years, or the recent success just a flash in the pan, or that foundation you speak of crumbles.
Aren't there a lot of "could be's" on both sides to throw around?
After 8 pgs of back and forth it would be fair to say both schools want this young man badly!
Yes, I am aware that you were referring to a College Football team's history, and you feel that only the last 2-3 years of is relevant.
I still think it relevant to not forget the past beyond the past 2-3 years. Heck, some people might say that the most recent 2-3 years are barely even history, or that they are not sufficient enough evidence to provide any indication of the future.
I take it you don't agree and I realize that you'd prefer not to factor in South Carolina's football history prior to your most recent victories in the Outback and Capital One Bowls, respectively.
One might say that's quite convenient to narrow your 120 year history in football down to the last couple years, but I understand the motivation....fair enough.
I'm not sure if you are just ribbing ShockeyFork because you have nothing better to do on a rainy Saturday morning or you actually believe someone can't act like an adult in regards to the new found success of their team. If you actually do believe that then I know for a fact you are wrong because I have been a Gamecock fan for over 40 years and I never have acted nor will I act like a few of you have on this board. I think it's stupid and immature. But kids will be kids I suppose.

yup this^^. I've mowed the grass, planted veggies and managed my employees. nothing better to do than to mess with someone who tried to act like Clemson is better than us. F' history, we're on top of the state now.
This goes much further back than Garcia, and I explained that the only QB that TOBC has ever tutored that found gainful NFL employment has been the much maligned Rex Grossman. That's why I said that in spite of him being a HOF coach, I have no idea why a QB with NFL aspirations would want to play for him, and I'd say the same thing no matter where he was coaching.
As for your question about Garcia, I'd go with TOBC being partially responsible due to his failure to can Garcia instead of giving him more chances than you can shake a stick at. This was due to the fact that TOBC felt like he had no other viable alternative at QB. Garcia never gave a serious attempt to get his shit together because he knew TOBC had to have him. And that's just my opinion on it.
Out of respect for both men I will just say NO.
Brother, I am in no way afraid or ashamed of our history........the reason I say 2-3 years in college football is bc that's halfway through most football player's time in college, therefore the team could potentially be really different, but also like I said that's MOST of the time I would imagine.......10 years ago, Florida State was a dominant football team......5 years ago, Florida was a dominant team, 2 years ago Arkansas was one of the best......I agree it all goes in cycles to a point. ...
Thanks, AKC. I want to say that I never would have taken off my jacket and gotten down in the mud if it weren't for someone calling out the work of our site's football writer, Josh. The young man works hard and continuously makes an effort to provide us objective information even though he's a Wildcat.
Just as you or any other principled Gamecock fan would have taken a stand if someone was attempting to call out the good name of one of your local guy's on his home turf, I hope you can excuse me for slingin' it around a little......it's not something I actually enjoy.
My gentleman's bet stands, and I'd be honored to shake your hand and have a go at it in predicting where Barker announces this Friday. If a wager is not to your liking, especially one that could be cloaked in the anonymity of the internet, then I respect that.
Top of the afternoon to you.....
And I am in no way saying completely forget history altogether, but is a single championship 30 years ago a valid argument against us beating Clemson the past 4 years........does that simple fact have any bearing onto this next year's game?????
I understand that, and maybe it's true that Spurrier may be partly to blame in those cases.....but I only know about Stephen Garcia, and I don't think Spurrier should be blamed for him not wanting to put in the necessary work and do what he had to do to be the leader he needed to be.....
Yes, it absolutely does have a bearing on your game with Clemson this coming season.
I like the direct response approach on internet message forums; I just wish there was more of it.
Do you feel that your recent success in football justifies the feeling of entitlement in the recruiting of Barker that I've seen from some of your fan base?
I've read posts from your fan base on one of your pay sites and three of your non-pay sites and to be frank about it, a decent portion of your fan base acts like y'all are among the elite of the elite in college football. That your football program and its historical success are on par with that of say.....the UK basketball program.
What say you?
Hold on there my good man. I may have missed it but it sounds like DavidsonNCCock says he was ribbing you because you were taking up for our most hated rival clemscum. Now them's some fightin' words. You are no gentleman at all. Ha, of course I'm kidding. As far as a bet I do think Barker picks us and the wager I would like to make is we will swap our football recruits with you if he chooses KY and we can swap basketball recruits if he chooses SC.
That was me, but i was not trying to start a passing match. He said he could see ANY reason he would pick us. There are certainly reasons. We've been on him longest, were at top 10 team at the moment and Spurrier is a legendary head coach. You'd have to be a homer to say no reason to go to carolina, just as you'd have to be a homer to say he has no reason to pick UK. They can sell hometown hero, building something that's never been done (our pitch currently), networking after graduating instate. I'm sure he's a hord worker, but its just my opinion that the insiders shouldn't post as a fan.
While I have a 97% confidence level that Barker chooses UK on Friday, I am not willing to take you up on your wager, lol. I'll send a cured ham, but not 5 McDonald's All-Americans, KY Mr. Basketball and another homegrown Top 150 kid.......
I apologize for bringing Clemson into it, but y'all need to keep in mind that some of us are pure Eastern Kentucky Hillbilly and when you step onto our property and want to hurt one of ours........we don't fight fair.
Good day to you......time for some dinner!
Josh is a good guy, a hard-worker and if you followed his work, you'd see that he goes out-of-his way to be objective based in his reporting and his Crystal Ball predictions. Heck, I've ribbed him for not going out on the ledge to make a prediction before actually knowing where a kid is heading, lol.
He's a good man.....
I'm hungry and I don't believe there are any leftovers to warm up, so I better head on out of here.....good day to you.
We are shutting this thread down. For one, it's veered way, way off course. Two, it's pretty silly to keep arguing about this with the news a UK player was in a car accident and is hospitalized, possibly in ICU.
