With the struggles that this years KY team has had so far this season the 2 ex--UK coaches must be having an ironic laugh at Cals expense The Rick Pitino led Louisville Cardinals are the APs #1 ranked team and Tubby Smiths Golden Gophers are in at #9. If I could speak to both of them I would advise them that they better enjoy the chuckles this year b/c next year they both will have to use a telescope to see the backs of the UK jerseys that will be miles ahead of them. I have to admit I like Pitino b/c of what he did for UK in its darkess hour and I like Smith not b/c of his coaching style(I didnt like that) but b/c he is a good man. But I like Calipari b/c of what he has done for KY in the short time he has been here and what he will do to the Cards and Golden Gophers with the 2013-14 team. If we get 1 more player in the spring, next years team could turn out to be the best college team ever assembled and a perfect season isnt out of the question. I know this is a far fetched notion but I like to dream big.
@NotJerryTipton: @NotJerryTipton: In 8 years at UK, Pitino was #1 for 10 games. In 10 years at UK, Tubby was #1 for 4 games. In 3+ years at UK, Calipari was #1 for 25 games.
Who cares what they're doing now.
Probably no one but the point I was making is that even though UK is having a rare off season so far those 2 ex-coaches better enjoy it now b/c it sure wont be any fun for them next season facing the monster that will be UK.
I understood your point. Was sort of reiterating it with a stat and also saying forget about them. Although, I pull for Tubby since we never play him. Pitino blew his load before I finished this post.
Really, really happy for the success that Tubby Smith is having at Minnesota this season. Still one of the best defensive teachers in the game.
After he's retired, UK will honor him at Rupp and he will get a huuuge ovation.
I agree Chris. He just wasnt the best recruiter. But a great person, and a great teacher of the game. We all saw what he did with tremendous talent when he won the championship his first year here. Minnesota should feel very lucky to have him though I have heard they expect way more than what he has done. Which is crazy. Its like UK Football fans being upset with 8-10 wins every year. Im not sure if we would ever be upset with that! I Know I wouldnt!
Based on how Cal recruits and is turning over the roster anyone who didn't think this would eventually happen is just crazy. I haven't given up on this team or anything, but they look completely disoriented. Its going to take a great effort by everybody for them to not finish below 4th or 5th in the SEC. Can they still get into the tourney at that point? Time will tell I suppose. As for Rick and Tubby, congrats to both for doing a really good job this yr. I haven't seen Minnesota yet this yr but the Cards are legit contenders to take home the trophy.
I know that some UK fans really dislike Pitino and dont get me wrong I hated when and how he left UK and spent a long time holding a grudge but eventually I let go of the resentment and remembered what and how much he did for the b-ball program here. He took a disgraced program that Sutton left for dead and breathed life back into it and came close to winning back to back championships. If it had not of been for the Derek Anderson injury theres no doubt that Pitino would have beaten Arizona easily for his 2nd straight. So when he left for all that $ and how he left I can see why people hold a grudge but b/c of what he did for this program he has earned a"Do Over" IMO. We were lucky to have had him for the time we did and what he did by coming back to KY and taking the UL job renewed the hatred in the state for him. I can seperate my dislike for Louisville from my like for Pitino I wish more people could do the same.
I doubt either cares about any team other than their own and their next opponent. what happens elsewhere is of little concern to coaches.
A simple question: is your butt jealous of the amount crap coming from your mouth?
Oh I know they really arent sitting around laughing at the situation at UK. It was more of a rhetorical phrase to get my point over how great UK will be next year and anyway both Pitino and Smith are both having excellent years so far.
Didn't really get upset when Rick left for Boston, but coming back to college at UofL will never be forgotten or forgiven by me or a good portion of our fan base. I hope he and UofL lose every game they play in every sport.
This is just a very down year for basketball, in general. It was a very, very weak overall recruiting class. The best players are very marginal talents. Cal saw this coming at least two years ago, however, and that's why we have Harrow and brought in Mays. I assume it's going to be a pretty weak draft, too.
