Snowy morning in Lexington (man, that hurts to even type let alone get out in) so Kentucky practiced inside the Nutter Fieldhouse again. It wasn't a particularly good one either, as you'll read below. Anyways, at the end UK coach Mark Stoops said he would open practice to the media on Wednesday, except for the full team periods, and hopes to eventually let the fans in once the weather breaks to more spring-like conditions (which feels like never at the rate the weather has been going): To the quotes:
MARK STOOPS (Mar. 25)
"Just an average practice today. I thought the offense, again, picked it up, showed some urgency, did some good things. It wasn't perfect but I thought they did some good things. Defensively, I thought we were very, very average at best, very lackluster. Just position on the football, sense of urgency wasn't there. It's not good enough right now. We'll see, we'll keep working."
HOW DO THE RUNNING BACKS LOOK? THAT'S ONE POSITION WHERE YOU HAVE SOME DEPTH AND EXPERIENCE.
"Those guys look good. I can't even tell sometimes because I'm too busy watching everybody to turn around, but they're busting tackles and running hard so I've been pleased with that position."
AS YOU LOOK AT THE WIDE RECEIVERS DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH RIGHT NOW?
"No, we don't have enough right now but they are getting better. They were better today. They're working to get better."
DO YOU NEED MORE BECAUSE OF THE PACE OR JUST IN GENERAL?
"Just the pace. We're not deep enough. We need to continue to improve, like I've said, we need to improve most areas of this team and certainly we need to improve with this offense and the number of guys we use."
IS THIS GROUP STILL FIGURING OUT WHAT THIS STAFF EXPECTS?
"Yeah, but I'm not buying that. They know what's going on now, now it gets back to habits. Now it gets back to this is day five, Monday morning, I'm going to go back to my old ways and just get out here and BS around, mill around for a few periods and then we'll play a little bit. It's not good enough. It's not acceptable. We've got to play good every snap, every play is important. Every snap you've got to have some passion for doing and just out here milling around, playing high position on the football, all that stuff is going to get you beat."
SOUNDS LIKE THE GOT A DOSE OF ANGRY COACH STOOPS...
"They got, they did. But, you know, I try to be positive but I tell them the truth. I'm always going to tell them the truth. They're not games with me where today is on my calendar to get after them, that's not it. If they need getting after, if they need it, then they're going to get it."
HOW IMPORTANT IS THAT IN A CLEAN SLATE SITUATION LIKE THIS ONE?
"I think it's very important because it's our job as a coaching staff to get them to push, to understand that urgency, to understand that competitiveness and to keep on working."
FRUSTRATED BY THE WEATHER?
"You know, it doesn't bother me. We get good work in here. I like it in here, we get good work so that had nothing to do with where we were at today."
HOW HAVE YOU FELT ABOUT THE FIT OF PLAYERS MAYBE RECRUITED FOR A DIFFERENT SYSTEM TO THIS POINT?
"Football is football, we have to get them into a position to be successful in our scheme. We're multiple enough offensively that we're using tight ends and fullbacks and things like that so we have the spots for everybody, we just need to improve."
ANY IDEA IF ALL OF YOUR RECEIVERS WILL BE CAPABLE ENOUGH IN TERMS OF CATCHING THE BALL?
"They will, and it's a credit to how we practice and Coach Brown and the offensive staff, I think by the time we start playing we'll be efficient, we throw the ball a lot and the operation that we'll practice is very efficient so I think they'll get better and better. I'm noticing it already. We need great improvement, don't get me wrong, but they're getting better."

This to me sounds like a Calipari quote. I just absolutely love this guy. We couldnt have made a better hire!
Thanks Matt. Enjoy this new staff. The way the players take plays off kind of make one wonder what were they being taught before. I am anxious to see the o-line work , as well as the entire defense. I knew we ha some good RBs, but didnt realize that we were that thin at WR. Almost as thin there as we are at DE.
You are right. Sounds exactly like a Cal qoute. Stoops has the makings of a great one.
100% agree twit.
If I was a player on that team I would be going all out all the time do they not realize that we need some attrition to get to the 85 limit ?
