I said it after IU last year and I will repeat it again. Calipari isn't perfect and he doesn't walk on water. He's not the greatest coach in the history of the game and he's not even the best x's and o's guy in the state.
No excuse for the last two performances against mediocre competition and one of the worst bench coaches (in my opinion) in America. Youth? This is the way Calipari wants it and he should live with the criticism he gets imho.
Cal lives and dies with recruiting PG's. He didn't get a quality PG in this class. That's on him.
Not just that but his coaching has been subpar and games like the last two only reinforce the notion that he's just a recruiter.
Letting Goodwin play the point and shoot whenever he wants to is on Cal. UK not being able to make shots is on the players.
Lol our fans are so so fickle. Not drinking the kool aid? Bet you didn't have much trouble drinking it last season. Give me a breaking break! The team is YOUNG and lack the fundamentals that other young teams we've had, had. Stuff like this is going to happen when no one on your team played significant minutes last season.
Seriously we lost 2 games in a row and u act like u wanna fire him...I wanna see what u say when he brings this team to the elite 8 or final 4...coaching had nothing to do wit missing lay-ups and guys not playing good defense...also I guess the 2010 final four team did everything on there own that was obviously the most talented team in the country...cal isn't the best bench coach in country but hes is a top 10 coach and refinery the number one recruiter...no reaso. To go crazy over this loss it's the 7th game of the season we will be fine...will we be a number one seed and wins national title prob not but we will be competitive by the tourney and we will make a run and thats all u can ask for
Having said that, this team would be better off without ball hogging Goodwin. Don't care what kind of numbers he puts up at the end of the day. The guy is a detriment to this TEAM cause he is always trying to get his.
And he made it that way!
What's so hard to understand about that? You don't get a pass for poor performance due to "youth" or "inexperience" when you're directly responsible (and it is at the core of your entire philosophy upon which your program is built) when those things come up and bite you on the ass.
Ask Tubby Smith what winning a national championship gets you from "fans".
I didn't say I wanted to fire him. What I said was I don't give him this benefit of the doubt from his failures or his weaknesses. I'm not going to blindly follow him like a majority of fans do.
At some point platitudes and cliches' go out the window and you have to do some real, hard coaching. And, fair or not, that's always been the knock on Calipari.

Well maybe if Cal would stop pushing players out the door we'd have some experience on the team.
I blame this on Barnhart. He hired a good football coach so now the haters have turned on Cal. Give it a rest. Yes they aren't looking good right now. Will they get better? Only time will tell. If they don't then oh well.
Between the youth and the holes in the games of several of the key contributors there is enough to explain a lot of what is going on. Noel has a very limited offensive game and is a weak rebounder. Poythress takes plays off. Goodwin is out of control. Wiltjer can't guard a fence post. Mays isn't the elite athlete. Cauley has the same problems Noel does. Still, with a long season to go (and improve) and with an awful SEC this year, they will still make the tourney. I don't see this team going padt the sweet sixteen though.
You have to be joking.
So ur just gonna follow some media ppl who hate calipari and other ppl who don't like his ways and say he's a bad bench coach the same way us fans just blindly follow cal??...he takes talent Over experience and with the success he has had in only 3 years here and at Memphis I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt after just 7 games...not if we get to conference play and we go 9-9 I completely understand cause it was an entire season but right now he is teaching these kids how to play give it time...he lost to 3 tourney teams not that huge of a deal...he needs a Lil more time wit this team then most but I'll take cal and this talent over any team in the country come tounement time except mayb Indiana...I think by march I would love to play duke Baylor and notre dame again...this is a repeat of 2010...lost to north Carolina and come back in march and beat them in elite 8
No. I'm not. You think Teague was ready? TJ? Lamb? You could argue Lamb might have been as good as he was gonna get but the other 2 would have been better players in the League had they played another year at UK. Maybe 2 more years for Teague.
They're losing to bad teams here.
Again, there's a difference between criticism and blind loyalty. Something UK fans have a hard time accepting and always have. If they "like" a guy they'll defend him until the very end. There were people who defended Gillispie, Sutton and Tubby until the very last moments. Everybody "loves" Joe B NOW but when he was coaching I would say the fanbase was 50/50 on him at best...even after he won a national championship.
This isn't saying that Calipari is a bad coach or I hate him or I want him to be fired. That is absurd. What it does mean is that he shouldn't be excused from criticism or mistakes that he makes. People went overboard with Tubby and I think I've seen an extreme shift in the opposite direction with Calipari. Hell, even Pitino was getting MAJOR heat from fans after 95. The problem is that social media didn't exist. Message boards and the internet were in their infancy.
You do understand that's why the elite players come here.
WoW!!! Some of you guys will never ever be happy no matter what.
1. Pushing people out the door? Really? You truely think Davis or MKG was seriously ever considering coming back?
2. Never ever compare what Kentucky is now to anything Tubby Smith. Cal built this from ground up. Tubby had it handed to him.
3. Made what what way? You mean bringing in the players good enough to build and national championship team? What would you rather have? What they have at UL where they have a decent team that will never get over the hump or take a chance year in and year out with striking gold? Everybody knew that there was a chance that this would happen one year. This team may still pan out or it may not. But, either way that is just part of it. There will be years like this. This won't be the last time that a group of Freshman aren't as good as the last group so you might as well get used to it or jump off the bus.
Look around the country. UNC, struggling, Michigan State, struggling. Those are two of the so called best X's and O's coaches in the game. Both have teams older than UKs.
Yes. And some of them are ready after a year. Davis for sure. Do you think Teague, TJ, or Lamb are reasons people come to UK? Or in the long run maybe a recruit looks at that and thinks, "Hmm, he's going to try to get me out as soon as possible. Maybe even before I'm ready. Do I want that?" I don't know. It's something to think about though.
This thread is a joke
Twitter - @NTHrunstheworld
The only "bad team" they have beaten by is Baylor.
And just some stats.
Kentucky went 9-18 from the free throw line. 18.2 from the 3. Under 30 overall. That's not coaching. That is just missing shots.
Oh let me see. My coach wants me to go make millions while my name is hot instead of coming back after I've reached my ceiling here as a player and my stock falls and I don't get drafted. Hmmm, I don't think I want a coach like that. lol
You guys have to be trolling UL fans...
RIGHT!!!!! haha. I can't believe it was even put up!
Jeez, what a couple of whining Nancies! Not every team is gonna be a NC! This year's squad is going to improve. Enough to do much damage in the postseason? Probably not, but we'll just have to see. Anybody that starts sh!tt!n' kittens every time this team drops a game is gonna be pretty miserable come February. Just part of the cycle.
This thread should be deleted. It's absolutely insulting to what is the most phenomenal 4 year run in UK history possibly. And the future looks even brighter. Calapari has quite frankly earned a f'ing pass, but he won't need it, or take it. They played better today, but couldn't get over the hump. Harrow started to show glimpses, they just had a bunch of shots missed, including free throws. This is sad to see honestly, but obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I understand...
This is the youngest team Cal has had in Lexington. Our true point guard is coming off bench in his second game.In my opinion it is going to take this team a little longer to jell. The effort was better today. Our shooting was pitiful, freethrows included. We need to be more patient in our judgement this early in the season.I am still enjoying our championship season from last year.We will be fine come tournament time.
