I sure am glad I read this thread so that you guys could shed some light on things for me. My eyes have been opened. I'll betcha Billy Gillespie wouldn't be having all these damn one-and-done issues ...
The responses in this thread prove my point: No one wants to accept that maybe Calipari isn't the Jesus Christ of basketball. Maybe he makes mistakes? Maybe he shouldn't be above any and all criticism.
The thing about this team is they are just simply overrated. I said in another post that the lack of basic fundamentals from this team amazes me. I am no great bball player but the basics of rebounding, free throw shooting, defense with your hands up, etc, I learned in jr pro. or middle school basketball. This team just seems to lack a desire to work, and fall into the trap of what coach Woods was saying; thinking that they are entitled to something because they play for UK. What they fail to realize is that the only thing you are entitled to at UK is being under lots of pressure, and having to work a lot harder because every team in the country wants to beat you more than anything in the world. I am more upset with these players attitude than anything, and only they can control that. We'll just see if they grow a pair and come back strong or if they roll over and die.
Yes it is! Noel is a weak rebounder but he had 16 boards today! Goodwin is horrible w/the ball in his hands BUT he's UK's leading scorer / assist man and he is guilty of nothing more than being a freshmen. Yes, Cal has had a revolving door w/players since he arrived but you can't just forget his 1st three years here and slam him after 7 games this year. Is it possible this team gets hammered many more times this year?? Absolutely but the future of the program is still exceptionally strong and I can live w/a down year every now and again if we more often than not are going to be challenging for a championship. Can we all please take a deep breath and get some friggin perspective???????????????
Ummm actually u did say calipari was a bad coach in ur first post and u said these last 2 loses r proof he's just a recruiter...tubby hadn't won anything since 98 that's y...he had 2-3 dominat teams flake out early in the tourney then had a first round loss as an 11 seed and the year be4 a second round loss as an 8 seed when cal does that it means it's time for him to go also...we love cal because he brought Kentucky back to where it belongs At the top...Kentucky was never this big under tubby u can probably argue we weren't this big under pitino even tho we were winning...no body just blindly follaws cal he has earned the right for us to say don't worry he will get it right cause he has for us every year he's been here so the logical thought would be ok we might struggle early but he will right the ship not everything cal says and does works...he deserves the benefit of the doubt and unfortunately u don't think so
I agree with the Goodwin comment. Having a scorers mentality is ok but there is a time to pull the reigns back a little and play smarter. He has turned into what coach cal called terrence jones in his freshman year (if you know what I mean).
lol, we just won 55 straight home games and are defending national champs. it flat out doesn't get much better than this.
All I'll say is careful what you wish for...Sometime soon we may not have this man and you'll be one of the people on here complaining about how bad things have been since he's gone.
For the record I'm happy with Cal. Just not with how this team is playing. Especially Goodwin.
myself I'm not complaining about Cal because I like his coaching and eveything. I am just very upset with this teams lack of desire. Bad shooting days, getting tired, etc are all understandable but being a quitter is not. I think Cal is as frustrated with this teams "want to" as most of us are, and that is not something he can fix. All in all I agree, be careful what you wish for cause the past 10-12 years have showed us it could be a lot worse.
Wow. Just wow.
Spoiled, spoiled, spoiled.
Some people will complain about anything. Amazing. Can't see anything but what's right in front of your face.
I don't know how to answer this because it lacks a clear and distinct understanding of the points I was trying to make.
So I'll go slow:
Calipari isn't a bad coach. He shouldn't be fired. He's a swell guy. He's a great recruiter. He's a good coach. He won a national championship. I'm more than happy with his tenure overall thus far and suspect that I will continue to be happy going forward as a whole.
None of that excuses him from his mistakes nor should it invoke blind loyalty from fans. That road leads to disaster. Some of the stuff he does reinforces negative perception of him and his style as a coach. I do not think he's the best x's and o's guy. That doesn't mean he's horrible (Scott Drew is though....jesus.) or can't coach. It means that he's not as strong as he should/could be and it shows at times like these, or against WVU or against UConn. And frankly? He flirted with fire in the Final Four last season but those guys were a machine at that point and they were not going to lose. That's a credit to him as well.
This is Kentucky and his team has played very, very, very poorly the last two games against middling competition. No one can offer excuses about "youth" or "inexperience" because this is the team he wanted. This is the type of teams he builds and frankly, I don't see the ceiling in this team that I've seen in his first three. This team looks bad in every facet of the game and it's going to need its hand held along the way, every step of it. Based on his history, the type of team he has and my personal opinion...I don't see it being successful or up to the standards that we all supposedly have for UK Basketball.

I told you Chris. We have to get Barnhart out of there. He hired a football coach that nobody can complain about, so they will complain about basketball.
Your right this team is very young and inexperienced but neither of those tings make a difference when it comes to effort. No matter the youth or experience of players keep them from playing hard and this team in the past 2 games and even before have played with little or no energy or heart. They like to celebrate after dunks while the other team sreaks down the court for and easy basket. I dont blame Cal for the players lack of energy because thats on them not Cal. I dont drink the UK Koolaid and try to say things the way I see them but I am a loyal and faithful fan and will always be. I dont know what Cal can or will do to correct this teams lack of desire but if he cant then this team could lose 10-12 games and exit the tourney earlier than most of us thought they would.
Or maybe you're just not thinking clearly. Too much tequila is a bad thing.
I think Cal has earned the right to wait until the season is over before we have threads like this.
Goodwin is fine. He will be another first rounder. And next year we have the #1 class in the nation coming in! Two losses and this board gives up! Ridiculous. Harrow will pick it up. It is still very early. Teague did not do well for the first couple games.
Youth does have something to do with bringing CONSISTENT effort. These guys are not used to having to do this up to this point in their careers. They never had to in high school. We've seen this before with other Cal teams and freshmen. It will be fixed.
Amazing, I guess that just because they have a Kentucky jersey on then everybody should stop playing, or Cal has forgotten what it takes. It's the 1st of December for crying out loud. This team will be OK.
I agree completely. This team so far has been his biggest challenge and will take much longer to to develop and like I have said before effort or the lack thereof is on the players not Cal.
Teague was a PG when recruited Goodwin wasnt. I dont believe there was this amount of criticism of Teague because he had the basic attitude of a PG Goodwin doesnt. He will be a 1st rounder no doubt and next year we will have a great PG but the problem is this year we dont have a true PG that can take control of the game and provide the leadership this team so desperately needs. Maybe Harrow will come around and hope he does but will he be good enough to take this team deep into the tourney? I just dont know.

just to clarify myself, this is exactly the same thing I have been saying all along in case anyone misunderstood me in any of my posts. If these boys get it in their head that they want to suck it up, work harder, and do something special they definitely have the talent and the coach to get them there. Whether they "WANT TO" or not is up to them.
Last year was point guard weak class and I think Teague should've went. But cal has never "pushed" anyone to leave without their best interest. Why keep a kid here if you think his draft stock will never go any further? Jones and lamb went at the right time...Teague left on his own will. While I'd say he regrets it now cal didn't push him out

Cal has been here three years and has an Elite 8 and Final Four and a NC. He also has an extremely talented class coming in and if things don't drastically change in the next few weeks we'll have at least three or four returning from this year. Rebuilding year? So be it. I'm, not saying a damn thing though, no matter how bad it might get. This team will get better as the season goes on - how much? I'll just wait and see.
