Per UC's web page, here is the breakdown (by home state & number of players) of their entire football roster. The numbers suggest that the coaching staff at UC has been able to attract talent from the midwest and the deep south.
In my mind Jones would be a good fit for UK in that he has been able to recruit (2*, 3*) athletes at both Central Michigan and at Cincinnati and mold them into winning football teams. This scenario is not unlike what any hire that assumes the head coaching position at UK will have to face when recruiting vs. our SEC brethren.
The right coach could tell a good story to some of those kids who aren't feeling the love from OSU or Michigan. For whatever reason, Ohio kids don't land in the SEC very often. I've always thought that a concerted effort could land some of that talent at UK.
I also think that he will be recruiting players to play in the SEC versus the Big East should make a difference.
There is enough talent in the Cincy area, a few gems from KY and the rest from the South to fill the roster. I would be VERY happy if Jones is our next head coach!
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and it has made all the difference (Frost).
For all the talk of UofL being left without a real conference, there's also a very real sense of panic in the Cincy program about their future. It would be a very opportune time to attack the Cincy area with full force and Butch Jones would do a great job of this.
