This team deserves to just go back to the dorm and prepare to go wherever they think they're going after season...hopefully they ALL leave...no heart, no talent..dud players...good luck next year.
you are the problem.. that is all
uhh...nope..I don't play...the problem is..they just suck..that's all..truth sometimes stings.
they do not "suck".. yes they did not "live up to potential" but they are FRESHMAN and SOPHOMORES.. they clearly do not suck.. but you clearly are a horrible fan that should no longer call out 18 and 19 year old kids on the internet.. its a horrible representation of us as a fan base
Im sick of people complaining. we go to a final four, elite 8, and whin a championship. why be mad? every team has down years and these players just dont mesh well together. our shooters are inconsistant and harrow mays and wiltjer cant play D. and if they suck so bad y arent you on the team helping?
C'mon man, have some perspective! I'm as disappointed as the next guy but this isn't the first time a bunch of freshmen didn't pan out in their first year. I'm just curious to see who does the smart thing and returns for a second season. Regardless, I can't dump on a bunch of 18 year old kids because they didn't continue the roll we've been on. Just remember, the credit goes to the man in the arena who is out there trying greatly while we sit on our collective arse criticizing and never knowing what it's like to be in the spotlight.
I actually agree 1000%. That's even though my comments aren't consistent with that mindset.
My gut reaction is to be pissed at every one of them. And it's not even for this year. The fact is they aren't that good. And it's okay to have a down year.... my worry, and assumption, is that they'll all leave anyway. So that wouldn't render this down to something below a "rebuilding year" and more toward a complete waste of everyone's time. Aside from Noel, anyone leaving will be in the D League.
I'll reserve my opinion, which isn't worth anything anyway, until I see who leaves and comes back. Noel, I understand. But significant departures on top of him just means that this is a team I strongly dislike. I can say 1000% that I hate this SEASON. Maybe I should wait to say anything about the team until we see if they do the selfish thing.
I agree to an extent. I can handle losing, as bad as it stinks, but I cannot handle watching players who are all about themselves and refuse to even acknowledge the coach when he is trying to get them to do differently. Fact is a lot of the players on this team just do not have the talent and athleticism to carry a team; and those that do are self centered, don't have any heart, and refuse to change and sacrifice self for team. That is what I can't stand in the least.
They are young and inexperienced. Most teams this young and inexperienced don't have winning records. Like Vandy, except Vandy has some sophomores and juniors who have atleast been in their system. We completely started over. It is what it is. Expectations were just way to high.
And whose fault is it that they are young and inexperienced? That is why the relying on one year players is ultimately going to fail. Next year will be the same thing. Sure we have another #1 class coming in but so was this one. Cal has been here 4 years and there is still no bench or veteran players that are here to be leaders. That I pin on Cal. No offense to Mays or Harrow but you dont go out and just grab whatever transfer you can and expect them to come in and be leaders or carry a team. Just will not happen. Some players need to be brought in that will stick around for 3 to 4 years that can provide stability and leadership and compliment the one and done guys. This year was like watching a bad NBA team. I dont like the NBA because it is all about the individual and that is what this team is. A bunch of individuals.
What do you mean by fail? Please explain. Next years team is going to be loaded. They will be the favorite to win it all. It will be about them sacrificing for a common goal. The guy on this year team will be ready to do that in order to taste success. Please tell me what your idea of failing is. Because next years team will be in the mix for a championship and will be a 1 seed. I'll bet you 500 bucks on that. Whether or not they win it all is hard to predict. But they will be a seed. And probably the #1 1 seed.
Have you forgotten last year already? Really!?
Last year we played three freshman, two sophomores, and ONE senior. That was the core six that saw significant minutes all season. I guess you consider Lamb and Jones veterans. The National Champs were led by freshman last year. Yeah, Cal's way doesn't work.

Now that he is relying on freshman alone, no it wont work. Look at his last three teams. You had Patterson, Liggins, Miller, Harrelson all there to steady the ship and be a leader. Last years group of freshman were special. How often is a MKG and Davis with their abilities, maturity and modesty going to come walking in? Relying mainly on freshman with no leadership is a recipe for failure. All I am saying is that to be consistent there must be some veterans to lead any championship contender.
And the only players who spent multiple years in Cal's system were Harrelson, Liggins and Miller. Jorts only really played one.
You are entitled to think what you will about next season's team, but you're wrong if you think it will be the same as this season. Plus, your coveted holdovers will likely be on the squad next season.
No offense to Poythress or Goodwin, but of they want to leave this season then they'll be fine with going in the second round. Once the season ends they will continue to plummet on the mock drafts. Watch.
Next years team is loaded bottom line. The Harrisons are MKG and Davis good. Randle is gonna be that good. Young is Lamb like. Poy will be back. WCS could very well be back. Those guys will provide some leadership and they'll be hungry. The Harrisons are as good of freshman leaders as Cal has had. Wiltjer will likely be back and Harrow. They will help to provide some stability and leadership as juniors. This team will actually have some leadership. Why would someone act like next years team won't have leadership. Doesn't make sense. The things they went through this year will help them next year. Cal said that and its most definitely true. I could even see Wiltjer and Harrow coming back for their senior years so things are starting to work out where we're going to have some leadership under Cal. Don't fret things are working out. Not to mention that if WCS comes back this year we'll probably get Dakari back next year as well as Lee too. So just don't worry about it and enjoy watching us try to win #9 next year because we'll most definitely be in the hunt for it next year.
That was a worry before it became obvious that we we're basically going to get this entire team back from this year. Not to mention that this next draft is going to be loaded which might keep guys in school for yet another year. So just chill and enjoy the ride.
Personally I would like to see Harrow move on. Probably Goodwin as well. I feel that both of those guys are part of the problem. When Harrow walked away from the team at the start of the season we saw why he has not stayed at one school. He is a head case. Goodwin is only out for himself. It is all about his points. Granted he does play hard but very reckless and as Cal has said "uncoachable".
I wish we could paste this post at the top for everyone to see next year when we win the national title. Clearly with some of the kids on this team playing a huge role. Plus a kid like Harrow could definitely make a difference in the program at some point. You want experience in the program as do I. He's a kid that could give us that. And you want him to move on. Why?
After his whole little ordeal where he tanked against Maryland and decided to leave the team for the mystery illness, I feel he deserted the team. It is obvious he cant handle the bright lights of the UK program. Dont get me wrong, I dont wish the kid any ill will, but I think there is a reason he left NC State and it appears he has some personal issues. I would much rather see some in state kids get a scholarship to UK then players like Harrow and Mays.
Don't you think those personal issues must be pretty serious?
Every year as a UK wildcat is a good year! These kids want to win and try hard. They have limitations as a collective team. Harrow should come back and play vs the harrisons. Any of these guys back next year would be a huge bonus. Give them a break and let them develop on a normal human level. Davis and mkg are rare.
Keep posting, BillyG will be back someday and you will be happy again. lol
what always blows my mind is the people who complain about experience and depth on this year's team are the same ones that want to push Archie and Harrow out the door. I find this ironic.
Why is it that nobody can give an opinion on this team without being slammed. I am not attacking anyone nor am I attacking the players. I am merely stating the obvious. If I remember correctly this team was supposed to be better than last years, according to some. I also remember they were preseason top 5, granted a little to high, but should have never been out of top 25. I also dont see how as a fan base, anyone can be happy with the outcome of this season. Am I wrong in saying that this team lacked leadership, heart, or experience? To me the hardest part was watching a team that gave up on numerous occasions. I can deal with losing, I can handle not making the dance, but I cant stand to watch a team quit. This team quit against Vandy. So I will question their play and I will question Cal on some of his game decisions and recruiting decisions. That doesnt make me a bad fan
The other 3 years have absolutely nothing to do with this team. This team was ranked in the top 5 preseason. Even with Nerlins we weren't even close. This is the most under-achieving team I've ever seen. This team wasn't predicted to be as good as last year's team, but, they still should have been a top 20 team. They just didn't put forth the effort to go with their supposedly talent. That's what so frustrating.
