I thought it was 13 schollies?
Means we have 6 scholarship guys returning of you take poison off scholarship. We can sign 7. I'm assuming Noel is gone.
I can see your point about WCS definitely. I also won't be surprised if Harrow transfers to Transylvania. Goodwin, while he was my favorite player this will get slammed by GMs and scouts leading up to the draft. Unless he wants to be a second round pick and take his chances he will be back.
You have 13 scholarships.
you are right.. i dont know why i thought you were only allowed 12.. my fault.. and with that i completely agree with who you thought our roster would be.. unless we get both randle and wiggins
I would also be surprised to see Wiltjer back if Poythress and Goodwin come back. He wants to play and if he can't play more than 10 minutes tonight when we needed him........
Only question I have is will all the freshman coming back and the way this season played out hurt us with Randle?
Randle isn't scared of any of these guys.
I think these guys are saying the right things after the loss. Or they are reacting emotionally. They need time to think of this. You can't shove the mic in their faces and expect a solid answer while they are still sweaty and the nation is still laughing at them.
Does Cal redshirt players? I doubt he has, but he likely has never had a roster as deep as next years potentially. Still not sure all Wiltjer, Harrow, Goodwin, WCS, Poythress will be back next year. Regardless, guys like Willis, and if Hawkins comes, those could be two valuable guys to get an extra year down the road if/when there is another year like this when the freshman group just wasn't ready mentally/physically.
Miss State fan here, wanting to see what those guys are going to do. If the come back (I feel they should) y'all will be scary good next year. I kinda hope they do so I can see them in The Hump next year. One thing Cal has going for him, IMO, is his track record of sending guys to the league. When he tells them to stay I doubt the players or their families will think Cal is being "selfish" in wanting them to stay. Here's to hoping State can get back on track so MSU-Kentucky will be fun to watch again.
I'll say this and I know some will disagree. If, IF, all of these players come back then I think Wiltjer red-shirts or transfers. And I really hope he red-shirts! I still think KW can be a very good college player. However, I think that he NEEDS to red-shirt for his own good. If this kid has any aspirations of playing at the next level then he needs a year dedicated to nothing but trying to make himself stronger, quicker, and more agile. I think he could benefit immensely from a year of being in the gym and the weightroom and, maybe a yoga class or something to try and get him more flexible.
Cauley-Stein said he has "empty feeling" and has never had a ring so he wants a ring before he leaves college.
Nobody else is either
The emotions of the loss are causing these guys to all say they will be back. Of course, we all know they aren't ready for the NBA. The problem is, once they start hearing NBA GM's and scouts tell them (or at least WCS, Goodwin and Poy) they will still probably be 1st round picks this year based on potential and then they look at next year's draft, they may see the reality that they could return for another year at UK and actually get drafted later in next year's draft than this year, costing them millions.
If they view it as a business decision, I wouldn't take what they said tonight at face value. They will have a lot to consider before their decisions are made.
Totally agree. Will be best for him and for the 2015 team. He will get plenty of work at practice by playing against this competition. We literally have enough players to be ranked No. 1 with the first team, and around 5th with the second 5. I know this isn't done, but it is kinda fun to consider the possibilities. I would love to be able to watch pratice next year. Practice will likely be more competitive than a lot of the games played during the season. Cal should have plenty to work with during practice.
If Wiltger has pro aspirations, he should redshirt and work on his body. With work, he can greatly improve both his strength and quickness. Hopefully he has Jorts' attitude on working to get better. I still believe he would be a major match-up problem for other college teams, as well as pro teams. This is all contingent on him putting in the WORK.
Wiltjer is not really that difficult of a matchup for anyone. He may be tall, but his vertical leap is horrible and he is slow. Therefore, when a guard has to switch to him it isn't THAT difficult of a matchup, unless he backs them into the post and does his jumphook. Unless he improves his footwork and speed/quickness, I don't think his streaky shooting is that valuable of a weapon. He was off more than he was on this season. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see him transfer to a program whose system better fits his game. It would probably be best for all parties involved.
I agree, but Willie wasn't one that had the expectation coming out of HS. He was #40 overall, prospect and was thought to be a project. If goodwin or Noel comes back, I would be surprised. Not anyone else.
Fear not...Poythress & maybe Wiltjer are the only 2 of the top 6 you're likely to see back-WCS will be a lottery (if not top 10) pick, Goodwin's still a first-rounder, and how does a point guard who can't/won't distribute fit on next year's team??
...and so he's going to turn down top-10/lottery $$?? Wouldn't bet the ranch on that one...
Top 10? For WCS? According to who...
Even with a weak draft he only has a small chance at the tail end of the he lottery. He will be the starting center on an absolutely loaded team next year and its going to max his stock out even with a better draft lineup.
Unless he improves dramatically, he should go to Spring Practice next year & try his hands at WR.
I'll still label it as a minor miracle if WCS returns to UK for his soph season. nbadraft.net had him at #7 overall as of yesterday.
NBAdraft.net is a joke of a site. DraftExpress and Chad Ford are pretty much the best in the business.
Both of which have him way outside the lottery. Ford has said repeatedly that most in the league believe he needs another year and Givony doesn't even consider him coming out this year, though thinks he is top 10 next year.
Try NBAdraft.net among others-as you point out, weakest draft in years-millions to go now & compete for a spot in a far better draft in '14?? Wishful thinking, I'm afraid...
