Waiting inside Nutter Training Facility today for practice to end, QBs Maxwell Smith and Patrick Towles came down the hallway together, both on crutches, both with their ankle in orthopedic boots. Towles even quipped, 'It's a disease' and smiled as he crutched by. Pretty jarring image for what has happened over there this season and the position they currently find themselves in.
That's what happens when you play true fresh/sophmores, vs. rs juniors and seniors. Story of UK football. We're always young, and we're always plagued by injuries. Excuses, excuses, excuses.
Goodness man, give it a rest for once.

Lol. People act like they need to rerererererereiterate their points around here in case anyone forgets joker sucks, Mitch sucks, rock sucks, uk sucks, Petrino rules, and o'doyle rules...
LMAO. How true!
It's the result of complete frustration from many.................
So if they had only been juniors they wouldn't have had their ankles rolled underneath them?
For Towles his was a freshman mistake, you don't keep moving backwards when the rush comes up the middle, you get rid of the ball or fall down and take the sack. With Smith, his was just bad luck when the USC lineman fell in the wrong place.
It's funny to me that you guys will tell me to give it a rest, but you continue to make the same excuses for Joker, and UK football. I've heard those same excuses for 25 years, and they get just as old to me as the complaining gets to you.
All week long, the media has been making excuses for our program and giving reaons to keep Joker. That is not acceptable period. Now is not the time to be quiet. If I hear someone spinning why it is, I'll call it out. Sorry.
It's not that most don't agree with you? It's that you're trying to beat the man down.
Didn't USC take out hartline on a BS late hit as well?
Seems like we owe the shady ball coach
The problem with your theory is that while we may could get a Petrino or Tressell or some other big name coach and then still end up with 4-5-6 wins a year, then people will be blaming Mitch for making a bad hire and calling for the next guys head on a platter or his assistants... Then you start all over again and do it to the next guy that can only win 4-5-6 games a year. My biggest fear is that a so, so, coach comes in and has 1 year where he wins 8 or 9 games and then that guy will get a pass for the next 5 years of what we're putting up with now.. I'm not a Joker apologist and if he goes, so be it, but, I do think UK has the pieces to be pretty good the next 2-3 years and I'd rather take my chances with a guy who's fully invested in the program than 1 who'd win those 8-9 games with Jokers recruits and then be off to the next bigger opportunity and then we're back to square 1 again and it's an endless cycle.
I am ready for 8 or 9 wins. Don't care if it's Joker or next guy. Just give me the WINS!!
Except UK has never hired a big name proven coach before, so that kinda kills your point.
I have found myself on both sides of this debate. I was on the sunshine pumper side for years until we were 1-4. Now as much as it pains me, I have to agree with Catmando. The excuse makers are the biggest beaters of the dead horse now. And its no longer even close.
We have tried everything at UK football except for cutting sling load mid season and bringing in a big name proven coach. Nothing else has ever worked, so why not? The worst that could happen, nothing changes and we stay UK football. OR......maybe it works. One thing is for sure, we need to do something different.
No it isn't.....but you already knew that when you posted it.
Here's my point and the problem: This thread wasn't about Joker or number of wins or the future. It was about the reality of the situation this year, which is the fact they've been besieged by injuries. I don't know that it makes that much difference in performance, but the fact you can't even have a thread without the same posters posting the same stuff over and over and over again is what is beyond tired.
There are enough threads discussing that. It's ruining the board when every other thread turns into that because a handful of posters can't possibly discuss anything else without beating the same drum. Yeah, everyone gets it. Few people are arguing that point. But goodness, it makes life miserable for everyone when they turn every thread into the same stuff. It makes the TCP staff's job miserable, quite frankly. And judging by my inbox on the site and e-mail inbox, it makes more people who read and post on this site miserable than the select few who can't have a non-FIRE EVERYONE!!!!!!!!! thread believe.
Hey guess what, injuries are a reality. Just because you discuss them doesn't mean you're making excuses for anything or 'supporting' the coaching staff. It means you're discussing what is actually going on from a week to week basis about the team.

Well I have been quiet for a while now but I feel like Matt has a point about this team. I am not defending Joker because we all know all of these injuries did not happen against UL or WKU etc. I think that the injury situation has plagued this team ever since week 2 or 3. It seems like we cannot play a game without someone getting hurt. What does that tell you? Bad luck? I don’t think so. When I was playing football for Morehead State most of the injuries (not all but the vast majority) were due to lack of knowledge of the playbook (when guys aren't sure what they are doing they don't play loose and that causes injuries) and not coming into the season in shape (when you are not in shape your body is more vulnerable to injuries, any trainer will tell you that). I think that the injuries are piling up because guys are not taking care of themselves the way they need to be. What do you think? Why are there so many injuries to our players?
The point you made is partially valid, guys who arent in shape do tend to get hurt more frequently than those in top notch condition. How ever when I played for UK in the 70s I was in great shape and went my 1st 3 years w/o any major problems but in our last game against Tenn. my senior year I blew out my knew on the 2nd play from scrimmage and it wasnt because I was in worse shape that all those games before that one, and actually to this day I dont know why it happened which brings me to my point that "SOMETIMES THINGS JUST HAPPEN". Now being out of position or not being in good shape can certainly be a reason for an injury but I just cant believe Joker sends his players out there not in tip top shape, but being young and inexperienced like so many of the players are this year isnt something that Joker can really change can he. He could put older guys in that have been there for a year or two but with a lot less talent but what does that get you the same result. Im not making excuses because I think a change is needed but is that really the answer?

Big Sarge - Ha ha I just want the elephant to go away. Don't care how it goes.
Matt - in regards to your post you are right. The threads are getting dreadful. I am discouraged and I see both sides, but I am tired of hearing and reading about it as are many. The way I see it, my opinion is not going to affect Mitch's decision. I can support or hate and bottom line is Mitch probably already knows what he is doing. In time, we the fan base will get the answer. Until then, can we stop beating a dead horse.
I have to say all the articles about how we are forced to play all these freshman because of injuries is making me sick. Not because the freshman are playing, because I truly believe if a freshman can beat out an upper classman, he plays. It makes me sick because with the older guys getting hurt, we are falling further and further behind of putting experience on the field next year. Yes, we will have a bunch of freshman with 1/2 years experience but I would rather have a junior, senior or 5 year player with a full year of experience. You look at the good solid winning teams and they are not "young" teams. It seems the only luck UK football has these days is bad luck.
Maybe he wouldn't have held the ball if the QB coach had worked with him longer?
Me and you both. How awesome would this time of year being in the hunt for the East crown. I'm not saying we even have to get there just be in the damn hunt.
