Love Sampras but he would have no shot in the new baseline dominant era of tennis we are in. No one serves and volleys anymore for a reason, racquet technology has pushed the pros to the baseline and Feds, Nadal, Djoker, and even Andy Murray ground stroke is not far off from a the cut a player would take at hitting a winner 20 years ago. Of former greats I think Agassi, Connors, and Borg would translate best to modern tennis.
Same goes for the Marines Jeff, but not in spirit.
The topic in NO way involved The United States Marine Corps....
If you feel it required to make that dig......Then, by all means, PLEASE DO!!!!
But, please be polite....Start a thread in The Paddock....Where the off-sports, topic threads belong.
Now how did I know the very next post would come from you? Lol. You beat me to the punch.
Even if this wasn't intended to be about tennis, I kind of enjoyed reading that exchange. I don't follow the sport that close, so I feel like maybe I learned something tonight.

Just know I'm right. If everyone would just come in assuming I'm right all the time everyone could save a lot of time.
Spoken like a true "2 Star Poster".
You don't have to believe me....Just check your profile.
There's right......and, then there is RIGHT!!!!!!
Yet again, you are off topic........NOTED!!!!!

Did you really bring up TENNIS on the 1st post to this thread?
Carl, 1st chance you had, you went all CARL and CARLed up this thread.
A perfectly plausible thread, "Interesting comment by Cowherd on the UK vs. NBA thing".
Carl, How did you CARL that up?
I personally think this is quite an interesting thread, but I believe comparing players in any sport from different eras is like comparing apples to oranges for the most part, especially sports like tennis where leaps in fitness and equipment have literally changed the game.
Basketball is different but I see it like most others, there are better individual players today but because of the one and done rule the teams are not as good as they once might have been.
Boxing however is a joke compared to its former self but that's because it's not a sport people want to get into, the next Ali is probably playing football or doing MMA or WWE, boxing is going the way of the dodo!
Think if a guy like Ray Lewis would have gotten into boxing instead of football. He would have been a bad man.
Uhhhhm, I'm pretty sure that Ray Lewis is already considered a "bad man" in his sport.
Annnnnd, We're BACK!!!!
What exactly are the chances that you think UK would defeat an NBA team?
Yeah. When you're a liberal on a Kentucky messageboard you're going to get a lot of down votes. Also, it's not my fault you don't understand what the thread is about. I guess that's why they call marines jugheads. It's also awesome how instead of turning the thread back to the topic you think it is you took the opportunity just to bash me in back to back comments. You could also put me on ignore if you dislike my posts so much. Just an idea. An idea is a thought. Usually an original one. I explain because I'm not sure you've ever had one. If so I'm sure you forgot it right away. And any NBA team would slaughter any college team any time anywhere and anyone that thinks otherwise is wrong. Badly wrong.
Wow, gave you numerous chances to do the "Right the Thing", (How would KY do against an NBA team?). Now, you're pulling politics into the discussion. "Boohoo, I'm not popular because I'm a Liberal."
At no point in this thread did you ever discuss or convey an opinion on UK's chances of defeating an NBA team.
I think that UK likely loses VS any NBA team on a given night.
I'm betting that our BBall team players lose against any TENNIS player you mentioned.
I'm sure that they probably lose a chess match VS Ralf Åkesson or Miron Sher.......or any other Grandmaster.
Again, back to original question......How does OUR team compete against an NBA team?
Back to Cowherd's comments on UK. He has bashed Cal and his practices ever since he came to UK. He'd be negative on Cal issues no matter what the subject.
Yeah, Coward sucks. He likes to instigate for attention. But he's right on this one.
Jeff brought up boxing and Tennis in his original post and never formed the question of what UK's chances are of defeating a NBA team. Not sure why you feel the need to play thread police.

Never thought I'd say this but thanks twhit. +1
Jeff Drummond, said;
He was laying into people who were suggesting UK could beat a bad NBA team. Not sure where that talk got started, but if it was Charles Barkley, I'm sure he was throwing a little hyperbole out there. Let's face it, no college team is going to beat an NBA team. Ever. It's men vs. boys.
He said something that really stuck with me during the argument. He says boxing and college basketball are the only popular sports where today's guys are not better than they were 20 years ago. I had never really thought of it in those terms. I think he's right.
FAIL..... Jeff NEVER brought TENNIS into the discussion in his ORIGINAL POST and only mentioned boxing in passing. CARL interjected TENNIS into the debate and totally sidetracked the original supposition by Jeff......"Could UK defeat an NBA team on the basketball court?"
If you are so easily taken in, perhaps I can interest you in some Arizona "beach" property?
I meant Boxing and college basketball. My comment was about boxing earlier in the thread and you felt the need to be a smartass. And uh Fail, jeff never asked that question. Learn to read. Plus like I said why are you playing thread police. Your not a mod, your just a regular poster. If you wanna stay on topic then do so. Otherwise anybody is free to discuss whatever they want related to the topic in each thread. And I don't care what Carl said, my response was in response to the smart ass comment you made to me.
I didn't steer it. I agreed with Cowherd and Jeff and just added tennis as another example of the same idea. Other people responded to it so it must have interested others as well. There were others in the thread talking about basketball. You could have just responded to them.
Nothing wrong with my comprehension or communication skills. However, by your own admission, yours may be in doubt;
"I meant Boxing and college basketball"
My "smart-ass" comments, which so offend you, were in reference to the HIJACKing of threads. The ORIGINAL POST was started to discuss the debate by Cowherd, "Could UK defeat an poor NBA team?" and how foolish were the people making that argument. With the possible supposition that Charles Barkley might have also weighed into the public conversation on that question.
Is it too much to ask that posters on this board be polite and remain "on topic" and leave whatever agendas beyond the keyboard?
Again, not to be side-tracked,.....Does anyone have RELEVANT comments to Jeff's original question?
I love women's beach volleyball. Its my favorite Olympic sport.
Not EXACTLY relevant,....... Yet, cognizant. Much like you, I'm sure that I'm drawn more by the uniforms (or lack, there of) than the athleticism displayed.
Well they sell for one thing. It is the way of the world these days. Everyone is selling out, nobody wants to take that artistic risk in fear of not getting anything back in return. I could go on for days about this subject, but it needs to go to the paddock.
behavioral attribute that is distinctive and peculiar to an individual
Can't believe I'm going to do this but I'm sticking up for Carl here, if Jeff mentions boxing why can't someone bring up tennis or any other damn sport? Discussions go where they will, you start one place and end at another, it's not like it was completely irrelevant to the subject matter, like we're talking about basketball and Carl starts talking about onions or something.
If I could down vote you right now USM, I would, you've been way out of line in this thread.
