Everyone has the right to their own opinion...don't bash someone for what they think. SSP or LOD it doesn't matter, it's a discussion board. I agree that there are some that post negative stuff ALL THE TIME and there's those that are in la la land about the program. Facts are, we're struggling...coach is in jeopardy, and we've gotta tough game Saturday. Why argue about it? Just be fans and stand behind your team no matter what. You complain about the attendance, the economy does play a part in that. But so does how the team performs. If we play well, people are willing to consider tickets a must get instead of a risk with the pay check. But now I'd say a lot don't think it's worth the money to pay for, but this team can change that. I know I'll be at every game no matter what, we could go winless the rest of the year and I'll still cheer my ass off. Stop arguing like a bunch of little kids and keep this as a "discussion" board.

Your exactly right. Most teams have felt the impact of the economy. Saw a lot of empty seats at most games on TV the last couple of weeks. While that's one of the problems at UK, some just don't believe Joker is the right guy. That's there choice and his job to prove them wrong. He did that for me when he fired almost the whole staff and replaces them with the guys he wanted over the last 2 years. Also when he beat USCjr and UT helped as well. Maybe I'm wrong for believing so quick but I honestly don't think so?
Really. I am all about liking Joker personally. Met him many times and one of his old wrs works for me. But let's get real. This is not working and time to get someone to light a fire under some people and get the wins that we have wanted for so many years.
Please do not settle for mediocrity for heavens sake.
I absolutely loved Joker as a player. He is my favorite of all time- I remember him vividly from when I was a kid. I hope he gets to coach UK forever.
But I'm a realist and realize that I don't get to make the decision. That should never, ever mean that I'm going to call someone on this board an idiot (or whatever derogatory you'd prefer) because they think Joker should be fired. I'd much prefer to just ignore it and hope for the best. It makes the board a much more pleasant place to post when people keep their wits about them and are nice. It's tough sometimes to realize that it's really, really easy to come off like a complete jerk on the internet when people can't see your face and read your body language when, in reality, you were just typing like you might talk to buddies.
So we all now need to sing Kumbaya and hold hands.
This was 'The Swamp' in Florida's home opener:
Who cares about attendance at some other school? We are at levels that have not been seen at Commonwealth in 15 years. The program is not doing well and we should want better. Does anyone honestly think the lack of fan support is due to the economy instead of a foundering program and its irritating and arrogant attitude toward the fans? UK fans have supported a dog before as long as it doesn't constantly growl at them. All of this talk about other schools and the economy is just diverting attention away from the real problem. Forget about Florida.
The fact that you ignore the economy proves the point that you have an agenda.
Of course the program being down hurts. But to deny that the economy doesn't have something to do with it is beyond moronic.
You've got to be kidding? I guess the economy in Kentucky is just stellar? Really! Wow!
Of course the economy plays a part in it. But to act like the product on the field isn't as big a part is wearing blue shades.
It goes both ways is what we are saying. Come on! Some just want to say it's just Joker and Mitch. It's not! And to say it's not the part economy is wearing the red shades of hate!

It's clearly a combination of both. The economy/lack of employment is hurting many families. I know families that no longer even consider going to professional sports IE: NFL, NBA, MLB because they simply cannot afford it. I also know some that don't even go to high school games anymore that they use to just for fun because they don't have the extra $$ to drop to take the family. What percentage is Joker and what percentage is economy could be debated all day long. But the bottom line is, it's both.
Our economy is probably about the same as it is in Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Baton Rouge, Knoxville, and even Starksville.
I agree that the economy has something to do with attendance but it is just plain stupid to say that our ticket sales are based on who can afford a ticket. Our sales are down for one reason and one reason only and that is the product we put on the field.
Does anyone on this board think that the people who can afford season tickets and K-fund dues in the past can not afford it this year? Think about it for a second.
Of course it is both but in my opinion the economy is not the primary reason the program is not selling tickets. If you are satisfied with the state of the program then fine but evidentially a lot of people are not. How are ticket sales at UL down the road?
Not sure how you decided if I was satisfied with the state of the program or not from my post!??! My point is people are hurting for money and if you think it is not a "part" of the low sales I beg to differ. I know people who no longer do many fun things such as games and vacations like they did in the past. Unemployment and the high gas prices and high grocery prices are killing peoples pocketbooks. It's not just the ticket they have to buy. Add the high priced gas $3.89 today, the cost of food. Shoot if they get their family to the stadium they can't afford to buy them food or drinks with the prices. Please remember that not all have an abudance left over after paying the bills. For some, it's just not an option and staying home, hoping to catch it on TV and ordering a pizza is more practical.
Jeez..I get negative votes for supporting my coach and team? This only solidifies my point. I am a UK fan..I bleed blue. If you dont want to read my posts that include the optimism of a fan mixed with passion of a football lover..dont read them..and certainly dont give me negative votes for saying what I want on a open board. I mean..this is UK's unoffical fan site..how do you justify giving me neg votes for supporting the Cats and Joker?
Bigbluedawg Buck up and be a man. Quit crying because somebody down voted you. Its a message board who cares what a bunch of random dudes think about what you post. Post what you want and don't worry about it. If they piss you of tell them where to go.
1003blue, I didn't write that very well. I didn't intend that statement about the state of the program to be directed to you but just a statement in general to the thread. I agree with you and was trying to reinforce your point. I just did a bad job writing it. I understand the economy is a mess and it affects all of us but like you said it is a mixture of the economy and the sad state of the program last season.
Agree and perhaps I didn't follow along to your post very well.
Buck up Bart, BUCK UP!!!
We had 2000 more fans at our game last week than Louisville did.
The clowns are out in this thread. It's a combination of economy and the product on the field. Only a fool would argue otherwise.
Our stadium seats 12,500 more people than Papa John's. Regardless its still a combination of both the economy and the product on the field.
The economy was down last year too fellas, and people still bought Season tickets. They just stopped showing up mid-season even though their tickets were already payed for. I'm not talking about nosebleeders either. I'm talking about nice lower level tickets. The people that buy those tickets can still afford it.
Now are their some people who didn't renew because of economic reasons, sure, but they are not the majority and every single one of you who is being honest with yourself knows it.
Its hard to know which is which. I think they both work together. Like maybe if the football program was strong people would find a way to pay for tickets in a crappy economy and if the economy was strong people would find a way to pay for tickets with a crappy program. So in my mind they work together and really it doesn't matter. Bottom line people aren't in the stadium and Joker looks to be on his way out barring a miracle. I think its pretty much garbage that most fans bailed on him so quick but hey those are the breaks. This is the SEC. But I saw a fan poll lately regarding fans around commonwealth and what they want done as far as a coaching situation. Vast majority of fans said they want Mike Leach(LOL. this was last weak), next highest amount of votes came in for people need to relax and see what happens the rest of the year with joker and then a few people said Urban Meyer, a few said Petrino and a few said John Gruden. I'd rather keep Joker than hire Leach or Petrino at this point but I go back and forth on Petrino every day. Obviously we have no chance with the other two. I honestly believe that at the end of the Joker might be the best solution for this program. Now that won't put butts in the seat next year. But if they hire Leach they are gonna lose some people as well. I'd be so mad I don't know what I'd do. And if they hire Petrino they will lose a lot of fans as well. Mitch is gonna have a tough decision. I just don't know if I trust him. This could be the most important hire in UK football history.
"This could be the most important hire in UK football history."
That's the same thing I was saying about the post Brooks era! I really thought we were in the best position UK had ever been in to take the next step and make a big hire. I was unhappy w/ the CIW, not because I disliked Joker, but because I thought, he wasn’t ready, and we were missing the chance to make the kind of hire that could truly revolutionize UK football and make us a viable SEC program.
Once Joker was hired, I got behind him and hoped that I was wrong. Like many of us have said, the best thing that could happen to UK would be we end up with a great coach that is also a hometown guy, and plans on making a career out of it. At this point though, it looks like that’s not gonna happen. One thing intriguing about a possible Petrino hire is I could forsee him retaining some of our current coaches, and I don’t think that would necessarily be a bad thing, as long as he wasn’t doing it against his will.
New coach talk, though likely inevitable, is a little premature at this point. For now, despite those on here who think otherwise, I’ll continue to hope against all odds that Joker manages to turn it around and have a winning season.
