Will Graves of the AP just tweeted that Kentucky did indeed fall out of the AP Top 25 for the first time in John Calipari's tenure today. First of the 'teams receiving votes'.
Here's the poll, just released:
Latest AP and USA Today college basketball polls on ESPN.com.
Lowest Kentucky rank under Calipari prior to being unranked this week: 22nd for four-week stretch in February 2011
By my quick math, Kentucky has played 47 consecutive games as an AP Top 10 team. That will change Tuesday night.
This should be an eye opener to these guys. Hopefully the sense of entitlement goes away and they become the blue collar team they need to become.
It was not a pretty week, but falling over 17 spots for two games?
Indiana - Wins over Bryant, North Dakota St, Sam Houston St, Georgia, Georgetown, Ball St, #14 UNC, Coppin St. UNC is only quality win.
Duke - Wins over Georgia St, #3 UK, Florida Gulf Coast, #13 Minnesota, VCU, #2 Louisville, #4 Ohio St, Delaware
I'm no fan of Duke but how you rank Indiana ahead of Duke at this point boggles the mind.
Well deserved. 4-3 with back to back losses. They don't deserve to be in the top 25.
Its not how they start its how they finish. Hopefully they can learn from the last two games.
Agreed. But it's "we" not "they".
Eh. If I played on the team or coached them we'd be we. Fortunately for the University, State, and Fans I don't play or coach for them so it's they. Sometimes I do use "we". It's just semantics.
Semantics are important, especially when saying something negative about our teams. "We" makes it easier to accept.
The real question is, is this gonna put a chip on their shoulders? Are you going to get mad and play with more intensity? That's what I am curious to see.
"Apparently the University of Kentucky basketball dynasty is to continue forever." - Philadelphia Inquirer, December 23 1954.
This would have triggered my alarm if it's mid-January.
Man, you said a mouthful of truth there. Duke has proven through play they deserve the #1 spot and Indiana enjoys playing teams at home that Huntington Prep would play tough. I can believe UK fell from the top 25 after their past 2 performances. Now we will pick up the "Indiana like" portion of our schedule till Dec 29th. I hope the Cats can develop a lot during the semester break and come out swinging when the SEC schedule starts.
This is the absolute best thing that could have happened to these guys. Nowhere to go but up and no other way to get there than busy your ass and get better each day. The name on the chest means everything and nothing until you earn it.
This isnt a top 25 team right now. The team has played pretty poorly against the good teams and have beaten the teams at home that they should. In my book that doesnt warrant a top 25 ranking even if it has "Kentucky" across their jerseys. I think this team will get better but we all better get ready for a few more bumps in ths proverbial road. I have no doubt will beat up on the teams between now and Dec. 29th but UL with or w/o Dieng may provide that next bump because thats the next true rd game for this team. I f you noticed I didnt use we or they, I just wanted to present my point of view w/o a judgement of semants.

yeah, i agree on this. SO confused about how and why Indiana is #1.
They are number 1 because preseason people thought they were number 1?...preseason shouldn't take into any account after few weeks of the season....
Crazy thing is, indiana struggled with Georgia and Georgetown.
I have no problem not recognizing UK as a top 25 team but a drop from #8 to unranked seems excessive given prior precedent. Just not the way polls usually work. Apparently this is the first time since the polls expanded to 25 that a team has gone from top 10 to unranked which supports my point.
It does raise some interesting questions about the rankings. . . say we win the SEC. . is that really going to put us back to a #1 or #2 seed? This drop might not seem like much now but it could be a big deal in March.
Thinking the same thing, I've seen other top ten teams lose two games and not even fall out of the top ten.
I'm not a huge basketball fan, nor do I really trust Calipari, so I don't really have any business commenting here, but, this is what you get when you have a completely different team every year.
If that happens it's because the teams they lost to were ranked higher than they were. UK lost back to back to unranked teams. Nobody else in the top 25 has 3 losses or a winning % barely above 50%. This is just a case of the people with votes realizing this team should have never been ranked so high in the 1st place and fixing their mistake. They should be using the same thing to fix the IU and Duke robbery.
Indiana doesnt have a true road game till Dec. 31st. and the games against G-town and Georgia were on a neutral court. They played the then #14 UNC at home, which UNC isnt a top 25 team either at this point but like UK was ranked too high at the beginning of the year. IU plays Butler but again at a neutral court. So really, who has IU played that is a legit top 20 team? On the other side of the coin Duke has played several good teams and beaten them, and believe me I take no compfort in defending Duke but fair is fair, Duke should be #1 no doubt. The fact they dont play a top 20 team until Jan.12 and that is Tubbys Minn. Gophers goes to show how a well groomed schedule may keep IU in the #1 spot till well into Jan. by default.

UK will loose 3 more games folks. Untill we find a PG we are in deep dooo dooo
Oh give it a rest. Every year it's the same issue. We won't win another game with the pg we have. Please. It's the first week in Dec.
