Who the hell was calling the pass plays on 2nd & 3rd down when a two yard gain wins you the game?
Perhaps he was suffering from the effects of the beat down Klempsin was putting on his players in the 4Q.
Probably Greg Studrawa, the offensive coordinator. Call me crazy, but those guys generally call the offensive plays.
I agree. With them passing the ball Clemson didn't have to use their timeouts. I didn't even think that the first pass was very smart. The most important think at that time was keep the clock running and make Clemson use their timeouts. Not very smart.
Ok well fire his ass.
One of the worst examples of finishing a game as I have seen. Miles reputation for this kind of thing is growing and keeps him from being viewed as an elite coach even though his record would say he is. He is a heck of a recruiter though.
LSU's offense is horrid...The whole game and most of the season it has been horrid..
Ultimately, The Mad Hatter makes a lot of questionable calls. Fortunately, more often than not, they do not bite him. Last night, it did. Only his second loss to a non-conference team since he came to LSU. Both have come in bowl games. I love him, but glad he is not coaching the team I cheer for.
"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." ~ Emerson
If Mettenberger doesn't screw the pass the call is genius and gutsy. The receiver was wide open.
Krag is QB coach.
Maybe, but you can't afford to depend on a QB as inconsistant as Mettenburger to make that play.
LSUs run game was wildly inconsistent during the game. Clemson had 9 in the box and weren't trying to hide it. It was a very high percentage pass, WR was wide open, the pass was the only thing that went wrong.
You have 3 downs to make 2 yards. Time is winding down. You can't put that in the hands of a QB like Mettenburger. Just like he did when he called for a QB sneak on 4th down with a whole yard to go against Bama, Miles made the wrong call(s).
Oh, it's not the call that I would've chosen, but I'm not one of those that are saying its the worst call. Miles is a gambler (we're not even sure he made the call). He takes a ton of gambles. Most of the time it works out for him, but this time it didn't.
