Slive says the SEC has no immediate plans to expand past 13. How do you setup a 13 team schedule?
The other article says Oklahoma would like to move to the Pac-12 ,but Texas wants them to remain in the Big 12.
I thought it was interesting that Texas to the ACC is a possibility because Texas would get to keep its Longhorn network money.
Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive said he remains hopeful Texas A&M will join the league by next season and that the SEC has started to look at schedules for next year involving 13 teams.
The University of Oklahoma's leadership is interested in a move to the Pac-12 from the Big 12, but such a move is far from a done deal, as the school's overriding concern remains assuring a stable future for its athletic programs, a source said.
Lets see. One side of the SEC will have 6 teams and the other 7 and if my math is right, that is 13 teams. However watch them put them in with UK. That would be the killing blow.
The meanest dog in Taiwan.
You know, that's an interesting point. If you had one 6 and one 7 team division by placing TA&M in the west, and you played everyone in your division (which should be a given) then the west teams would have six division games and the east times five. The east teams would need three out-of-division games and the west only two to get to eight conference games each, which is 18 cross-divisional games vs 14 games.
If you try to play an overall 7 or 9 game schedule, you still get similar imbalances. If you modified the schedule so the west played nine conference games and the east eight, then you would have 18 cross divisional games vs 21.
The only way it works is if you do away with divisions, (BUT...then you would lose the championship game and all that money, which is unacceptable), or bastardize the schedule so each team doesn't play each team in their division, or possibly re-align to three divisions which doesn't make much sense if you go beyond 13 teams. You could balance it with 3 divisions (1x5 and 2x4) but then who gets left out of the championship game. The only other way is to play games that only counted in the conference for one team, which I don't think would ever happen.
My real guess is they find a 14th team in a hurry, should this work out with TA&M. But, it would be interesting to know how Mr. Slive and his staff are pursuing this.
I'm confusing myself...so I'll stop thinking about it.

Yeager, it wouldn't do away with the championship game. You would just have the two teams with the best record play each other for the championship.
