Virginia Tech's top recruit decides to go elsewhere and according to Joe Davis will look at UK. Thoughts?
Kentucky, NC State, PITT, Providence, L'ville, Xavier, Cincinnati 'Bama are schools expected to make a push for Montrezl post-release.

i thought we don't recruit 4 stars.
That's great, but I want shooters 6'4" - 6'5".
Cats need 2-3 more players regardless of position, although I agree that another guard is needed.

This is a kid that probably doesn't see a ton of time as a freshman but could be very good once he gets a year or two under his belt.
Seems like a hedge in case we do miss on Bennett to me if we do get involved. He's a heck of an athlete for sure.
Got to find a guard somewhere though.
If we miss on Bennett should be a possibility. I believe we need a strong PF worse than we need another guard. We need that strong PF in case Wiltjer is having some matchup issues in the post on D.
We need a PF and we also need a "shooter" in the form of a 2/3 framed slasher.
It would be difficult to replace a shooter like Lamb. He balanced our offense well enough to take us all the way.
We have a semblance of last years talent, minus lamb and Jones, IMO. Miller is another vacancy that is irreplaceable and will not be replaced. But this team is forming nicely.
Poythress is a on fire type athlete. He has yet to be seen as consistent but the way he plays looks like he may be. The power and physical nature of Jones is missing though. Bennett solves that part of the balance.
If we can get Bennett and a shooter, we will have to melt a chemistry that will win #9 without Miller.
Folks, that can happen but it won't be with last years charisma. It will be a Calipari miracle. He wins this year and everyone will have to see that he is the X factor in this entire equation.
The Kentucky Effect!!!!!!
Harrell looks like an absolute stud in the highlight video that is floating around today. Granted, its just a highlight video and you can't judge how good a recruit truly is based off of those, but dang....his aggressiveness, strength and athleticism looks PERFECT for our offense. Players like him are Exhibit A to why I get tired of fans looking at the top 20-30 recruits and throwing their hands up and saying "no one worth a damn is left". Guys like him would thrive in our offense, regardless of whether they are a McD's AA player or not. If you have not seen what I'm talking about, I suggest going to YouTube and typing in his name and finding the video that calls him a "beast" in the title.
He looks great in that video. He had a 51 point 25 rebound game this year and averaged 22 and 10 at prep school.
I agree 100%. Everything I've seen and read on Harrell today has me wanting him in blue and white next year! Jordan Brand Regional MVP, Capital Classic MVP, 6-7 with extremely long arms, powerfully built, very aggressive, very athletic and is capable of taking his man off the dribble. He could be a big piece to hanging number 9 next year. A lot like Bennett but probably more low post oriented and good in transition. He's got all the tools to be a beast of a power forward and low post defender/rebounder. The Jordan Brand Regional MVP and Capital Classic MVP tapes of Harrell are also on Youtube. Had 22 pts 12 boards and I counted 5 blocks in the Jordan Brand Regional game.
6'7″ VT Commit Montrezl Harrell DOMINATES the 2012 Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game. Harrell is a 6'7 forward from North Carolina that finishes with a blend of power and finesse. Montrezl is a top 100 player in the class of 2012 and has verbally committed to play at Virginia Tech next season.

Holy ish, at that 1st video you linked from the Jordan Brand Regional game. Wow! I want Bennett as much as everyone else does, but Harrell doesn't look like the complete fallback option a lot of people are saying. I just love his aggression and strength inside. I would be lying if I said I would be upset if we lost Bennett and had to "resort to Harrell".
Pretty impressive looking prospect. Wouldn't be a bad consolation prize to Anthony Bennett at all.

From a skillset, size/build and style of play standpoint, he reminds me of Tony Mitchell from Bama, except even an inch or 2 taller. So long as he doesn't come with the baggage that Mitchell has, I would love to have a player like that.
I see a lot of Elton Brand in him.
If you don't like this kid in a UK uniform your nuts. He already has an NBA body, he has NBA strength, and is quick off his feet. He never gives up on a rebound and dunks on everybody. A kid like this is better for the overall health of the program than another one and done IMHO especially when he appears to be very very good.
The meanest dog in Taiwan.
this kids video's make me feel even better about whether we lose out on Bennett. I want Bennett, but this guy looks just as good or better. NOT a very bad backup option
Agreed. Give me him, Bennett and a shooter and call it a class.
Bennett is the guy but I agree this kid isn't looking to bad either. What I like about him is the fact that he can play the 4 on the perimeter in our offense. He's not a back to the basket type kid which is perfect for our offense. Poy and this kid at the 3 and 4 would be tough matchups for anybody.
Ya think? LOL.
I found a write up of the Jordan Brand Regional game. Turns out Harrell had 7 blocks. Here's what they said about him.
Montrezl Harrell (Hargrave Military Academy, 6’7”, PF)
11-14 FG, 12 rebounds, 7 blocks, 22 TP
Montrezl was all over the place this game- very active. Athletic- plays the game above the rim. Had several highlight dunks and alley oops. Runs the floor and finishes on the break. Has great size-solid frame. Aggressive rebounder- rebounds the ball hard. Attacks the offensive boards hard- is constantly searching and hunting for offensive tip ins off misses. Good shot blocker- the shots he didn’t block he altered. Hustles and really plays hard on both ends. Plays bigger then 6’7”- plays more like 6’10”. Had the go-ahead dunk after collecting an offensive rebound putting his east squad up 1 with 15 seconds left. Also had a game saving block with 3 seconds left. Really competed this game- solid performance. Solid pick up for Virginia Tech.
