Just thought about the info that Neal Brown was contacted through his agent early in the coaching search. Then it comes out that Stoops brought a highly detailed plan to Mitch for the interview. Just a thought that maybe he expressed interest in bringing Neal aboard at that time and contact was made.
Just a possibility I thought about
Does anybody have any REAL info that Stoops knows Neal Brown?
Ummmm no !!!!!! Stoops really had a great plan from what I have been told. He has had his eyes on UK for some yrs now, from what my daughter has told me. He knows that if he makes UK a big winner he is god here and he can name his price to stay or go.
This is the SEC and he knows how much money can be made by this school in football.
He can be the man here forever. And with alot less stress once he turns this team around unlike the Aub coach who won it all 2 yrs ago and is now fired at UK he would not have to deal with that crap.
Ummm NO what? What the hell does your post have to do with the OP's question. The OP mentioned that Stoops had a detailed plan. But what he wants to know is if Stoops had Neal Brown in those plans and then you come in screaming about him being the man here forever and your daughter being in the admin.
I remember that there was some confusion about the Neal Brown/Agent rumor a few wks ago. Some said that Brown was contacted, while some said that his agent was contacted......the agent is the same guy for a multitude of coaches including Kirby Smart at the time (who was also believed to be contacted).
So I certainly remember rumors that Brown was contacted, but haven't seen anything concrete. Still it would make sense if Brown was contacted (assuming Stoops even wants him).....he's a UK player, he's from Danville, and he's a hot OC.
Knows the money that can be made? I thought you told us that UK couldn't afford to pay a coach anything significant based on what they made this year and last.

HE SAID THAT QUITE A FEW TIMES ON HERE AND IT WAS ALWAYS IN ALL CAPS LIKE HE WAS YELLING AT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING LIKE NO ONE WAS LISTENING TO HIM AND HE NEEDED TO GET HIS POINT ACROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whew, okay. One other point I would like to make is don't say that he will do it with a lot less pressure. I can remember seeing all kinds of fire Rich Brooks posts everywhere, even after he started going to bowl games. People said he wasn't capable of taking us to the next level.
Maybe he wasn't, but my whole point is that if Stoops turns it around here and we are winning 8-10 games a year, that will be great for a couple of years. Then if it stays at that level, you will start to hear the rumblings come out. "Well, he's got us to this point but he can't do any better. Now I think we need to offer this job to (the next) Nick Saban." Mark my words it will happen. We are no different here than anywhere else. The only reason we aren't as crazy about football as we are basketball is because we have never had any reason to be. Its like money and power. Once you get a taste for it you want more and more and you will never be satisfied. We do it as a fanbase in basketball and if we get to that point we will do it in football. I'm not saying that every person is like that, but a lot more people than you think will be. I just hope we get to that point so we can see if I am right or wrong.
Neal Brown and Mark Stoops have indirect connections. Neal was coached in college on UK's staff by Mike Leach, Sonny Dykes and Tony Franklin. When Mark's brother Mike was the head coach at Arizona, Sonny Dykes was his offensive coordinator, Mark Stoops was his defensive coordinator. They are all intertwined. To take it a step further, Mike Leach is very close the Bob Stoops as well. He served as OC on his staff.
The probelm with Brown is that he may end up HC @ LaTech or one of the other openings. Do they want to keep the OC job open waiting for him and then risk losing other candidates if he does get a HC gig?
I couldn't agree more. Maybe due to the fact that once you get past UK basketball and football there isn't a hell of a lot to fight for our attention in this state. We probably will get greedy and demand 10 wins if we get stuck on 8 for 2-3 years. Of course all teams have fans just as fanatical as ours, but few reach our level. We're kind of unique in that regard.
Hell, we were proud to see the name of a basketball recruit named on the ticker on Sports Center before Cal. Now they're doing specials for our signings here and the next thing you hear before the ink is dry is we gotta get (fill in the blank). I'm not complaining about it. It's great to be in that position and I'm just as greedy.
I can't wait to bitch because we've only won 9 games 3 years in a row in football.
Thank you Mitch!
Don't worry, If we get too greedy Mitch will be there to tell us we're all microwave fans and to be patient. ;-)
It's a joke people.
