Just spit-ballin' but he has Kentucky ties with stints at Troy State and OC at Texas Tech? Pedigree includes coaching under Hal Mumme, Mike Leach and Tony Franklin.
"You can calm down a fool before you can resurrect a corpse", Coach John Thompson on why he'd draft DeMarcus Cousins despite question marks
A friend of mine sure wants him badly..never stops talking about him..
I don't think he would come just to be a OC. There isn't any incentive to do it.
Not enough experience, not a big enough name and his scheme probably wouldn't work in the SEC.
When did he coach under Mumme? I knew he played for Mumme as a walk-on.
You don't think he'd be an upgrade over Randy Sanders?
My bad...played under Mumme as a walk-on at UK.
Good question. In the SEC you need a balanced attack, not just passing. Now in saying that Mumme's scheme worked at first but after a while SEC teams shut him completely down hence his 0-8 record his last year hear. I'm not saying Brown runs a offense just like Mumme's but it's close. Just don't think it would work unless he made some adjustments. But hey he's a UK boy, so if the next HC wants to bring him aboard I'd be all for it. Would like to see Brown learn under Petrino. That would be fun to watch!
Definitely agree that you have to have balance in the SEC. You just can't get away with anything other than traditional solid football for any amount of time in this conference. You always end up getting exposed. Its just like the NFL. Once one team puts it on tape how to stop you everybody else follows suit.
I like Brown over Randy, but ultimately I want an OC who runs an offense exactly like we ran in 2007 and who has the same playcalling skills.
Offense is not the problem, Defensive side of the ball is killing us!!
You do know that Joker was the OC then and it was basically the same offense they ran with Hartline. The difference is the 2007 team had weapons at every position.
Have to disagree. Uk hasn't scored a TD in the 1st quarter since 2010. Only scored 20+ points once against the last 14 BCS teams. Averaged a whopping 11.8 points a game during this time frame. We have problems on both sides of the ball.

I'd take him if it meant Sanders leaving. I've never been a fan of Sanders as an OC. He is good as a QB coach but his playcalling sucks despite having a good system.
Uh, yeah....I'm quite aware of that. The difference is who was doing the playcalling then vs. who is doing it now. I didn't realize this thread was about Joker.
I'm willing to leave it up to the new coach once he's named.
Why do I feel that you will be waiting a long time!? Go Cats!!
No I won't. If Mitch is so monumentally stupid that he gives this train wreck a chance at another season, I'm done with UK football after 45 years. If there is not a change there will be no UK fanbase remaining, just Mitch, a few Joker Phillips fanboys, their fightsong ("Rah! Rah! Wait 'til Next Year!") and their Motto ("Winning Doesn't Matter as Long as You're Positive!").

I think Joker has already gotten his walking papers. He just seemed like it to me when looking at him on the sidelines during the game....
As for Neal Brown being OC at UK. I know Neal Brown from when he played at Boyle Co. and he's a good guy. I question his ability to make adjustments and keeping his offense fresh. His offense is the offense that he learned from Hal Mumme and Mike Leach and continued learning under Tony Franklin. The problem is that in the SEC you've got to learn how to keep your scheme fresh and introduce new wrinkles all the time. If you don't do that then the SEC will figure out how to stop you. That was Hal Mumme's down fall when he was at UK. Part of being able to introduce new wrinkles in the offense has to involve the running game. Example Kevin Sumlin runs a Mike Leach offense however he's tweaked enough to where the blueprint to stop it last year isn't the same this year.... That's how your offense stays effective in the SEC.
Neal Brown to UK is very much warming up right now.
Under whom? Dykes, Smart, or someone else altogether?
If Sonny Dykes is gonna be our HC I'm much more worried about who are DC is gonna be not who are OC is gonna be.
