I just don't see Louisville being as big a threat as some others like Michigan State who if they don't lose Payne or Harris is going to be very good and Florida. Florida will get better guard play next year due to Hill. He is a special type player and add Young, Walker who may not be as good as some think but other than that I think Florida is going to be a very strong contender. The SEC should be a very good league next year so UK will have to come together very quickly to be the dominate team they should next year. Now question is which team gets Wiggins and what type of impact he will have on that roster.
Pitino announced Dieng is gone tonight
It's way too early and despite the plethora of talent coming in UK should NOT be ranked #1 at this point.
I don't mind us being listed top 5 cause of the talent but you don't know how well they will bond and what their chemistry will be. For those who knock our youth and say, "Look at this years team" remember this: The 13 class that came in only had 2 solid, can't miss NBA guys and that was Noel and Shabazz. This year you have 15 guys that are sure fire NBA guys and we have 6 possibly 7 of them coming in.
I just don't see Russ Smith's draft status getting any better than it is right now considering how weak this draft is. Thats why I ultimately think he will come out. This is his only chance to ever get drafted at the end of the first round. Do I think he will be drafted at the end of the first round? Probably not. But there is a chance this year. Next year there is absolutely no chance he is a first rounder no matter what he does. There is a better chance he goes back to school, has a championship hangover season, has every flaw in his game exposed and doesn't get drafted at all than he gets drafted in the first round next year. Might as well just go. He's already won a championship. Why go back?
I'm still not buying UK being ranked #1 PRE-season but to each their own. Here is a good explanation for why they should be.
The Kentucky Wildcats have experience, depth, the most talent by a wide margin and a coach who has proved capable of guiding a team to a national championship.
People keep comparing the team next year to the team that won the championship last b/c there are "veterans" returning. However, there is one big difference.
The 11-12 returned a key player at every level...a guard (Lamb), a wing (Miller), and a post player (Jones). My concern for next year is the returning players are all post players. I know the twins are big, physical guards, but I would like it better if there was a guard like Lamb returning. Hopefully, the natural chemistry b/t the Harrison twins will offset the lack of experience.
So, is Russ smith now returning?
I still think Liggins is stupid for not getting his degree. Hell, it's only one more year for some of these guys. And I believe that you may be one of the crowd that thinks that our potential first round draftees this year (which they would have been) would be stupid for leaving, so don't get chippy bro. Russ Smith is not likely to amount to anything in the league. He's not 6'7" like Liggins, he's not a good defender, and he's not a great shooter. His only attribute that is positive is that he's very fast and finishes well. He won't be that fast in the NBA.
A guy can always go back and get his degree. You have to strike while the iron is hot. Liggins did what he had to do.
Looks like Bilas Index also has us at #1.
Jay Bilas provides his ranking of the top 25 teams heading into next season. Kentucky, with arguably the No. 1 recruiting class of all time, tops the list.
Are we going to argue that Liggins is less talented than Russ Smith when considering NBA level skill?
Russ Smith is not going to make it in the NBA.

and...him staying another year won't matter but put him in even worse situation.
A team can just take a swing at him for minimum contract amount. Which is still a lot of money.
He can also work on his education away from b-ball. D-league isn't bad for a player like Smith. That's a good place for him.
