Man I want to see a new commit soon. Wats happened to ya Darren Dowdell?!
Really wanted this guy. I guess it ain't over til it's over though.
I really though we had a chance at this guy.
Not going to lie. I am starting to get a little worried. I will wait till the blue lights camps to officially be worried. If we only have one commitment after those camps then we could be in some serious trouble.

Has UK beaten WVU in a head to head recruiting matchup in the last 5 years or so? We recruit a LOT of the same players, but I can't remember beating them out for any.
Really think that we are all going to hate WVU now that we are starting to recruit the north a little more.
Last year we got Cody Quinn. I think he had a WVU on his final list.
Well that was a quick turnaround.
Very strange. This kid openly lobbied for a UK offer the last couple of weeks, took time out to come to camp, then commits somewhere else a few days later?
Not sure what to make of that.

No way that kid stays at LB. As a 6-1 260 lb 17 year old, he's a DT/DE all the way. He could be a good one too if he can maintain his speed.

"Apparently the University of Kentucky basketball dynasty is to continue forever." - Philadelphia Inquirer, December 23 1954.
Tend to agree. He's far more likely to be 290 than cut down to 245-250.
Maybe he didn't like what UK told him about what position he was going to play.

Slightly off topic, but why are kids so against moving to D end? I know there's a psiitive stigma to being a linebacker, but man, how I would love to get the opportunity to rush the QB. Seems like it would be any defenders dream.
D end is one of the top 2 or 3 positions in all of football. I don't get that either. As far as the NFL draft goes too, if your a top DE in the country your pretty much guaranteed a first round grade.
At least they were honest with him. You don't see many 290 pound linebackers anywhere, let alone in college.
Yeah I hate it too, however there are still plenty of good looking LB prospects left. One thing I would like to point out to some is it's very possible for a kid to play ILB in a 34 while being 255-265# when they have this kids agility and speed. He moves very well in all the vids I saw and was reported to have 4.7/4.8 speed which is plenty good enough. I said a few days ago these are the types of LB's I think we need, I love combo backers like this kid. Howard has the frame and size to play ILB (unless he does get up over 260-265) and also rush the passer. Alot of teams do that when they have big explosive ILB's, one example is Donte Hightower, everyone knows who he is. In their nickel/Dime packages he rushed the qb at times... So unless some have a inside source on our staff telling them this kid was going to play Rush-backer or D-End then I think he would have started out at MIKE LB.
One thing is certain there is no way he was going to play D-End... D-End in our base scheme is a 5 technique that requires a thick, long armed Daniel Ross (270-315# athletic DT) type kid... However if some were meaning Rush-backer (or Jack in most 34 D's) then I think that was very possible for Howard, his skill set and frame could allow him to play either ILB or Hybrid OLB/DE. Size really isn't the primary factor, a kid can play Mike LB despite being 255+# because ILB's in our scheme requires a tough-hard nosed kid that can fight off Offensive guards/OT's/FB's and others. Both ILB's really do have to be able to shed blocks and come up against the run and blody a O-linemans nose. The Mike more than the WIll as some would guess. There are plenty of kids left to choose from one that I have been wanting UK to offer is Micheal Deeb from Ft Lauderdale FL. He's another 6'2 235+#er that would fit in perfect at ILB. He has good athleticism and a tremendous frame and mean streak.
I hate it that we seem to be stuck in the mud, the pre-season mags and a few websites have had Jokers name on the "hot-seat" list for a while it's killing us, someone said they think these kids HS coaches are telling them to hold off and I agree. That's probably what's taking place. One thing is certain RIck Minter has a pretty good scheme but landing the right types of players to play Strong-End and ILB seems almost impossible for us right now. Nose guard is usually the toughest position to get for our scheme, since there are so many more 225+# LB's and smaller athletic DT's floating around then there is monsterous 320+# DT's... I really hope we can begin to land the kids we need, I knew the moment I saw us line up in a 33/34 defense it was going to be tough to recruit for that scheme I never expected it to be this tough though... My reason for saying 33/34 is because our SAM/Hybrids do not have the body type of a usual SAM, SAM LB's in our scheme range anywhere from 6'1-6'5 230-255# in most cases...
At the end of the day I'm really pulling for Joker to do well but since the SEC has all of a sudden taken a swift turn for the better in the lower ranks it's going to be tough for Joker to do well if he can't land the right players at the right rate. Joker does deserve a ton of credit for what he has been able to do the past couple years, both the 11 and 12 classes are filled with good prospects but we all know it takes good classes year in and out for a team to win SEC games especially these days. I really hope something positive happens and recruiting starts to improve, we all know a win against UofL would help out a ton. Sorry for bad grammer, GO CATS!!!

I didnt know national signing day was yesterday. How did I miss that? No player has been lost to this date and will not be lost until sometime in Feburary. I am sure UK will continue to recruit the kid. All a committment means is you have a chance to sign a kid on national signing day.
Too long...sorry. Lol
I'm with you Prince. Several have stated that it would probably be later before we start making any noise, I didn't want to believe that but it may very well be the case. Obviously because of the limited ships this class will be crucial imo. Ill feel much much better after just one or two more commits.
I just get the feeling this one will change before NSD. Not saying he'll sign with us but something tells me he will flip.
Yep, very odd the way that played out. And curious as to why it played out in such a strange manner.
With the amount of offers we have out right now to some very highly regarded recruits, this will happen many many times before the end of recruiting. It is always a bummer to lose one that shows a lot of interest in our program, but I'm with Joker when he says that he wants commits that will honor their agreement once verbaled. The Jon Davis types who string you along and then bail at the last minute are very damaging to the program. Even more so when they are in state kids.
I don't know if Phillips was involved but it was pretty clear that one of the main reasons we got Micah Johnson was a promise to keep him at Linebacker. No offense to him, he did okay at the position, but he could have been great at DE or maybe even DT if certain things had gone his way.
The real problem is when coaches say "Hey, we'll keep you at Position X" and sell you on all the great things you'll do and learn there, what great position coaches you'll have and then the first day on campus you're playing a different position....the position they wanted you at all along but they knew they had to string you along to get you to sign on the dotted line.
