I, too, believe that state and city finances being poorly managed will have no effect on a state university located in said city.
Trust me, they are losing their ass on it. I promise you that.
It will have an effect on it if they do not get it straightened out and they can't play there anymore.
Umm, no... actually they are secomd to at least Florida State in total athletic expenses according to USA Today. And, they are below UK by a little more than $1M. Just saying...
...Moody’s Investors Services downgraded the bonds issued to build the KFC Yum! Arena to a high-risk”junk” rating, because it increasingly appears tax revenue generated by a tax increment financing district will not meet projections for years... according to public information, the Arena Authority is facing the possibility of "revisiting" the lease with UofL for the Yum center. They are Millions short! But, I'm sure that has no effect on UofL...

Not to stand up for the turds but they aren't losing money on the Yum Center. The city of Louisville is losing money in droves on the YUM Center but UL is still getting their $ as they completely hosed the city with that contract.
UL fans, wake up the ACC is a dying conference and everyone knows it. Congratulations, you have managed to rename the old Metro conference a few times over and now it's called the ACC. Funny how you keep ending up with the same schools time and time again.
IF the city of Louisville defaults on the Arena UL gets first dibs at buying the Arena. It's like they intentionally set the city up to fail with that contract knowing they would benefit. Jim Hosts and the board that put that all together should be sued for incompetency as they screwed the taxpayers royally.
.... It's not safe! Get on the train or get out the way!
I'm not sure why UK fans give a damn what conference UL plays in. They will always be little brother and are still in a little brother conference. UK is still the big dog in the SEC and UL will prove that they still can't keep a coach when Strong leaves for UT. ACC is going to fail anyway and Cal gets his pick of recruits as is. Nothing has changed.
Yeah, they did a piss-poor job on it for sure. I'm not quite sure how UofL would be able to afford to buy that though. There was talk before it happened that an NBA team was coming to Louisville and was going to share the arena. Sponsors would have had it paid off in 10 years. UofL didn't want to share the arena. They wanted to be top dog there. I think this incident has only helped solidify that Rupp will be renovated at some point rather than building a new arena. So yes, Louisville will have an option to buy it, but that won't be cheap. They may have to renegotiate their deal.
Ha ha! Little brother conference? Tell that to FSU, North Carolina(s), Duke, et al.

When duke, Unc, fsu, va tech, nc state Miami and duke leave?
It's funny to watch UK fans hate us.
FSU, DUKE, and VT were solidly in our corner. The ACC was unstable until Louisville was added. Our addition appeased the Southern schools to stick around. What are you all going to say once the GORs are signed?
Louisville is on the rise, has been for years. This strengthens the commonwealth as a whole. Have of you most likely love in Louisville, yet still complain?
The conference jumps and progress made have been astounding. Acting like what our university has done is not is just fear and ignorance on your part.
I for one hope Stoops works out for you. I think it was indeed a good hire. I also commend your players for carrying Joker off the field. One thing you cannot question is the mans integrity, he is a wonderful person and was treated such.
Number 1 Fan of Wheat right here...
I'm happy for uofl. Really am. But the fact is this... The acc tv contract sucks. That's why Unc, fsu, Miami, va tech, duke, nc state, and UVA are looking elsewhere. To deny that is ignoring reality.
Turds of a feather flock together!
UofL has worked for everything it has. We have the best AD in the country. We have one of the best presidents in the country. Our students work their tails off paying for school themselves. Nothing was giving, every thing was earned. I love that about our University. You all are jealous of what we have accomplished
You hate us? Fine. You have no respect for us? Fine. You don't feel good about any other university in the state? Ok. WKU is the 2nd best university in the state anyway behind UL. We are in the ACC, we weren't grandfathered in, we earned it. If sh!t hits the fan then we will fall comfortably into a better situation.
We constantly strive to get better while uk feel they're entitled to everything. That's fine, most of you all have grown up getting whatever you want anyway.
And it's sad, I've met some pretty intelligent uk fans but you all as a bunch are the laughing stock of the country.
I hope we stop playing, we need to improve our ooc schedule anyway.
You haven't earned anything. ACC had to add you to have any hope of not getting picked apart before Christmas. If you earned it they would have added you long ago. You were their 3rd choice behind Cuse and Pitt. Just let that sink in real slow. Enjoy it while you can, your coach will be gone soon and the ACC will just be the new Big East, same crap teams with a new conference name. Lipstick on a pig.
Yes, you have a great AD. It's a little biased to call him the best but I understand that you would feel good about him.
Damn, did you get denied admission to UK? Sounds like you got a few issues with them. Just curious.
I'm sure everyone on here that went to UK though will have to admit it was nice not having to pay for school or not earning their degree! Hell, they even paid for us to go out drinking too! Yep, it's the life over here getting everything handed to you. I'd tell you to try it but it looks like you'd rather actually work. That's too bad. It's awesome when people in Louisville bust their asses so we can get everything handed to us here in Lexington.

But still the ACC. You guys should apply for admission. A step up in basketball and you'd probably win a few games in football.
If they ACC were going to stay like it currently is then it wouldn't be bad. But, as others have stated, your television contract is horrendous compared to the others and other teams are going to follow Marylands lead. I'm not knocking Louisville in the least, but they shouldn't have been so quick to jump to the ACC. These schools can have the $50 million buyout paid off in a few years with the money the will receive in new conferences so it isn't much of a deterrant.
Where exactly is up from being National Champions?
at some of the UL propaganda in here, particularly that City College stabilizes the ACC.
