I have a feeling this is essentially what is going to happen no matter the years outcome. Just with his track record and staying with coaches. And I think we win 1 more game. Like to be more confident, but am not and will add this, we have good young talent. Back to my point.
He may say, 'We have decided to give Joker one more year to really develop this talent, and frankly, he found himself dealing with too many young players forced into starting rolls, especially with alternating our true freshman at QB. So, need to be fair to him and honor his contract. Look forward to seeing an improved product next year and having people come back to CWS. Thank you'.
That move in my opinion would destroy whatever fan base we ever had this year. Gosh, please put some effort, time and MONEY, into this program. This is SEC football, not the Centre Colonels.
There are two ways of thinking about this. And I could actually see that happening too. I actually posted the same thing on my Twitter account yesterday.
1. UK falls deeper into the depths of SEC football.
2. Joker becomes another member of the guys that Mitch gave a year more than the fans did. Which meansss, Mitch gave Rich Brooks, Matthew Mitchell and Gary Henderson all more time to develop what they had. Those worked out.
My question to you, "is it a factual statement?"
There is a lot of merit to it. Personally I believe you go out and try to get an absolute proven head coach like Bobby Petrino, and if those efforts fail you stick with Joker. Bringing in someone without a proven track record as a head coach is just asking for more trouble.
If you can't get an Ace, then hold on to the Jack you have in hand instead of drawing a new random card and just hoping for the best.

I think this is an excellent point. I'm in the new coach camp-- but only if we can bag a big fish. I'm not for switching for the sake of switching. I'm for switching because if you hire the right guy, it can make a huge difference in the health of the program.
IMO this is very real and could very well be how it plays out. In regards to the fan base, more season tickets will not be renewed and attendance at an all time history low starting the season.. And from there there it will go one of two ways:
1) In 2013 team comes out, competes and wins 6, 7 or 8 games and fans come back.
2) In 2013 its more of the same and coach is released.
I may be mistaken, but I believe this is one of those years where UK is faced with either extending Joker's contract or letting him go. If they keep him and don't extend his contract (he has three years left), IMO, they are setting him for further failure. If you thought it was difficult for him to recruit at UK in the past, try and think how much harder it will be if recruits can't be assured he will be there during all four of their years.

It may hurt us in the short-term if we stick with Joker, but if Mitch thinks Joker is the guy and Joker DOES end up leading us to improved seasons, then the past becomes moot. The long term will by far outweigh the short term. I know some of you don't think there should be a long-term, but Mitch has to take into account the progression. Are we really going down or is the youth a sign of rising from the ashes?
Also, we won't get any bond help until February at the earliest, but what if an announcement comes down that we are expecting the bond to go through? That is going to increase interest and people are going to donate/renew season tickets anyway.
Look at it this way, the fans at Commonwealth Stadium this year, that renewed their tickets, have been GREAT. I really think we have a great base of football fans. I don't expect the decline in sales to be as significant next year if they stick with Joker. I think a lot of those were weeded out prior to this year. That's not a good thing, but it is something to consider.
That's certainly something that we know and understand, but I think your typical recruit is going to go based on what happens on the football field or maybe an opportunity to play early. I don't think contract years really play into it.
The SECOND Mitch knows that he's sticking with Joker (if he does decided that), he needs to make that announcement. Until then, recruits will be turned off by the uncertainty. Mitch is smart enough to understand that. I think that is how you can tell that he really is considering moving on. That's not to say a final decision has been made, however.
Unless Joker can manage four or five victories before season's end, the Mitch's main concern (of he makes a decision like that outlined) maybe how to deal with the echoes coming off all those empty alumini=um seats during games next year.
And as for wins the remainder of the season, even though both are talented, the degree of difficulty in having to play two green true freshment from here on out as been greatly amplified.
Mitch has to do what HE thinks is right though. He probably doesn't care what the fans think. At the end of the day, if Joker stays and he turns the program around, do you care about what happened the past two seasons?
Contract years don't play into it, but recruits are turned off by the uncertainty? Didn't you just contradict yourself?
Yes and no. lol.
I'm saying that the recruits are going to pay more attention to the rumors and what is actually being said than Joker's contract status. The typical football recruit typically does not know that information.
Yes, if it means financial collapse, and empty seats at Commonwealth. You have to realize, if Mitch sticks with Joker, the stands will be empty, and even if Joker's team starts improving, it will not improve greatly. I can't imagine more than 6-7 wins tops, and I don't think that will bring people back after the debaucle we have seen.
Here's another twist though. Say we bring Joker back one more year, but Mitch also comes out with bonding money backed by the new Pres, and a renewed commitment to football? I am very doubtful, but the lack of commitment to football is the major issue IMO. Therefore, I may be able to handle one last chance for Joker, knowing that he either gets it together, or not, and if not, we are in a position to hire someone who can get it done.
Until it's harped on by a@# clown opposing coaches during recruiting visits and phone calls.
1. At this stage in the game, you don't think Joker rambling off 5 or 6 wins would keep his job? Not saying it happens, but I think Joker keeps his job easily if he wins 6 or 7 games.
2. I made that point in this thread a little higher. Could be interesting, but I don't see that happening either.
I am just trying to play devil's advocate.
I'm good with keeping Joker, was before Max's injury and still am now. I am seeing improvement each week with the exception of the WKU game. If these kids can play this decent as frosh, they will be excellent as Srs. I do believe we will right this ship with Joker, with anybody else, who knows what will transpire. One thing for sure, in my mind, UK needs more than just 2 QBs and next year we will have that.
Honestly, I just really don't see us winning 5 or 6 games. If we do, whole new ballgame, but I just don't see it. Right now, I think we beat Samford, and Vandy or Arkansas and finish with 3 wins. If we beat vandy and Arkansas, 4 wins tops. I just don't think that is enough to keep Joker.
I know everyone is getting hyped about Sat because they think that Miss St is a beatable team, but I just don't see it. They are better than people think and are built tough. Unless Towles is the second coming of Couch immediatly, I'm afraid they will pressure the hell out of us, and eat clock on offense. They are a very physical team.
They will have 3 sophomores with 2 available for red shirt. They will have a true freshman coming on. That's 4 qb's. Still not enough tho.
Re: your #1---it won't happen. If lightening struck and UK won 5 of its last 7 games Joker should get SEC coach of the year. I see 2 more wins (Samford and either Arky or Vandy). Go Blue!
Do y'all really think our young kids are more talented than the rest of the sec? The reason we don't see it at other schools is because they don't need to play them yet. They already have talent and a coach who has developed that talent. If joker is brought back than Mitch will be run outta town after we go 3-9 the next year. There is no possible scenario joker turns it around. We have progressively gotten worse and underachieved since he's been coach. The only reason we was ahead of S.C. was because they was looking ahead to Georgia. Halftime comes spurrier gives them a wake up call and the the route was on. To the op if jokers brought back I will drop UK football. For the foreseeable future anyway.
U "will" drop uk football ? Lol. I know what your posts are going to say as soon as I see your name bro... U dropped uk football a while ago. And those that have, still will if joker stays, unless he wins more often, then they will get back on board. Attendance won't drop big time if they bring him back, bc the fans going are just supportive no matter what, myself included. Unless they only win 1-2 more, I think he will be safely back. His job security has increased big time with the third string qb and rb starting from week 4-12!
LOL!! I Always have to laugh at people who say "I'll quit following UK football". Like somone will miss you? Come on?
Now to the original topic. The only way Joker is retained is if he wins out. Actually that may not be enough. Several factors go into it.
Wow? His job security has increased because of injuries? What does that say about the state of the program? Why do you think our guys get injured so much here? It's because we ask them to play as true freshman/sophmores, with underdeveloped bodies, against RS jr's and seniors week in and week out. I'm not blaming Joker for the injuries, but the fact that we have such a young team, every year, and continue to get injured is more of an indictment against our staff's abilities than it is an excuse.
Ask UK if they care about all the empty seats. If jokers brought back tickets sales will drop off another 15-20 percent.
