I think he will be our next coach. He is a great offensive coach and has been at UK before and I think that he would get us back to a bowl next season and could build from that success with a great recruiting class the following year on to a chance a 10 win season in year 2. I think he would be a great hire
He better bring a defensive mind with him. Hard to just flat outscore anyone in this league. And we have some young fire power, but the D better be there.
Let this sink in for a minute....as bad as our defense has performed this year La.Tech is giving up more points per game than UK.
"Kentucky Football needs to be and will be a championship contender in the SEC."~Mitch Barnhart 11/4/12
Hopefully he'll bring his OC with him. He's the engine. If not, meh.
His offensive coordinator failed miserably at auburn and is universally hated in Lexington. If dykes gets the job his o coordinator isn't coming with him.
No Tony Franklin in Lexington, please!
Ditto! No Tony Franklin at UK.
I have been told that the Sonny Dykes representatives have politely said "NO" to the UK job.

How in the hell anyone would think that Dykes would be a homerun hire is beyond me.
I hear you fc65, but maybe a "homerun" hire is not a possibility. There are some negatives, unfortunately.
To me that's the problem. UK has settled for less than the best in the past. UK doesn't and would not in BBall and there is no reason to do it in Football which is the biggest money maker. You pay the money and make the committment to upgrades in certain areas and the home run hire will come IMO.
WOW, thats pretty ambitious thinking, but I like the attitude unfortuanately it wont be that easy and a 10 win season his 2nd year is asking a lot or too much for Dykes or anyone. Keep up the positive attitude thats what is needed more in the football program.
I don't really have a problem with Dykes,
but before we get all gooey over him look at his roster. It's full of Louisiana kids which wouldn't leave their state to come to Kentucky...may be easier to recruit there than here.
Your team. All the time.
No more Mumme ball. Let's try to be a real SEC football team/program for once.
Damn Mumme ball, just can't work in the SEC.
You could run the wishbone with Johnny Manziel and make it work. Wanna bet A&M is where they are without him? It has way more to do with him than Mumme ball.
And I'll play along with your game...
Damn, this conference figured me out. They actually take defense seriously. Where's Tim Couch when you need him? 2-9 sucks...

Leach at Tech
Hologerson at OK State and WVU
Brown at Tech
Briles at Baylor
It works at the college level. Not against LSU or Alabama, but right now we are trying to compete with Ole Miss and Vandy
I agree. It works in the Big 12.
And yes, we are competing with Alabama. We play them next year. We're also competing against Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and a soon to be revamped Tennessee.
Leach: 2-7 (0-6)
Holgo: 5-3 (2-3)
Brown isn't a head coach, this is Tuberville's team. Tuberville is a defensive HC, which is reflected in the fact that TT has one of to best defensive units in the conference.
Briles: 4-4 (1-4)
This isn't the world's greatest example of Mumme-ball "working" at the collegiate level. Even in the pass happy and defense-deficient Big XII, the "air raid" folks have losing records.
PHCD, you're looking at this the wrong way. To have successful Mumme-ball, all you have to do is recruit a freak athlete and have him scramble around and rush for 150 yards per game while throwing pretty accurate passes against defenses severely constrained by the fact that your freak QB can take it to the house on any play. Easy-peasy.
Well next year is likely to seem more like this year in all fairness. The new system may churn out a few wins but it's not gonna matter against Bama. Unless Rex Ryan takes the job and brings some of the Jets to play. Being competitive throughout the league will take a couple years.
Whoever we get I hope he's able to motivate the fans as well as the players. 50 years of watching the other shoe fall spectacularly has got to be erased from our minds. Basketball we can be down 20 in the second half and we expect a comeback. Football we can be up 20 in the 4th and chew our nails til they bleed.
Though he's not my top choice...Dykes & Co. can flat-out coach!
There's no question that Dykes system would work in the SEC...Hello! He put up 57 against aTm ...Who's 7-2 / 4-2 in the SEC.
Those 2??? A 3pt loss to UF & a 5pt loss to LSU. Respectable L's you'd say...In those L's...UF scored 20...LSU 24. Dykes went all Heinz57 w/ La Tech talent!
Go look at LaTech's roster...Now, Go look at UK's roster.
You telling me he can score 57 against aTm w/ his current roster....But he couldn't take a roster w/ arguably more overall talent/speed/athleticism & get it to play winning FB against the same SEC competition he dropped 57 on???
Dykes at UK could be a match made in BigBlue heaven.
This is actually a good post because it brings to point the biggest problem with Mumme ball. La Tech put up 57 against Texas A&M. Texas A&M put up 59. Air raid defenses are flat out ATROCIOUS. I don't know what it is going to take for UK fans to understand that defense is the most important part of the game. Look at USC last year, they lost Lattimore, yet still won. Why? Because they absolutely shut people down offensively and scored enough to win. How did LSU and Florida beat aTm? Because they shut the air raid down in the second half.
If all you want is 7 wins a year, then yeah, the air raid is a "match made in BigBlue heaven". If you want UK to actually start competing for SEC championships, then it is not the right choice. Not a horrible plan D, but would be a disappointing hire for me. We tried it in the 90's. It didn't work.
In a one game situation a gimmick like the mumme/Franklin system works in the sec, but when it is put on film against other sec defenses week after week the nick saban's, Steve spurrier's and the muschamp's of the world will shut it down.
Also, practicing against this offense is not good for your defense. In spring ball you don't practice against what other teams do, you practice against what you do . Why do you think Troy, la tech and other Franklin /mumme teams have such trouble on defense?
Neil brown has incorporated a lot more balance into mumme system z. I'd be fine with him, but not dykes.
Great post. If you can't play defense you can't win in the SEC period! If you have any doubts just watch the Bama and LSU game from this past weekend. Man those teams and coaches get it!
