Some on here might want to do a little research before making statements...
1) LaTech has a much better T.O.P. avg than anyone on here is giving them credit for. (T.O.P doesn't seem to hurt Oregon, TxTech, ND, aTm or many other well run spread attacking teams.
2) LaTech doesn't employ the Mumme Air-Raid. Yes, It's a spread attack...but it's FAR FAR from Mumme's 70-30 pass-to-run system. They actually run it more than they throw it...And concentrate on getting in as many snaps as possible, while wearing the DEF down...
3) Dykes only cares about scoring more points than the opponent. But isn't that what's most important??
You are going to play games in the SEC where you have to win with defense. You can not win a SEC title hoping to outscore opponents. You've got to stop some people.
Please tell that to ALA...They forget that DEF wins, when playing aTm.
And please explain how AUB won the SEC & NC w/ their porous DEF.

Please tell me how a fan with a positive attitude is gonna help this program. A positive attitude has gotten this program to a 1-9 start.
I am a parent & fan, of a student athlete, who has a positive attitude. My attitude hasn't won her any races or made her jump any higher but, good preparation and coaching has won her regionals as a freshman and sophomore.
I'm tired of the my guy is best for the program agendas. I want the best guy for immediate gratification. And that guy is most likely Petrino. There are other options but Dykes shouldn't be considered until there is no other option that is better.
To say any coach is what's needed for the program is asinine, the program is a failure and has been for most of my 42 years. The "program" needs rebuilding from the ground up.To get that started you need to be relevant, to be relevant you must win, to win you must have a good coach & AD. Then every other aspect will start to fall into place.
As far as the funding, increase revenue of the football "program" by 59% and I assure you the facilities will get the attention they need. That is all thanks for the rant time.
Go back and check how "porous" auburn's defense was. They were pretty darn good.
And check your facts on bama. How have they won two titles in the last 5 years. Sure as hell wasn't playing basketball on grass. Did you watch the national title game last year?
Learn football then come back to this board.
I'm all for an exciting offense. I like what oregon does. But sacrificing defense to run a silly offense gets you nowhere.
Bama just got punched in the mouth, looked up and they were 20 points behind.
Honestly I didn't check but, I don't remember Auburn giving up 38 ppg on avg. Like I said I didn't check.
What FACTS about Bama did I get wrong...I stated the fact that ALA just got punked by a aTm team that runs the exact OFF that your complaining about! And aTm only gave up 24 pts to that #1 ranked ALA team...yet could only hold LaTech to 57.
ALA's 2009 DEF - a NC yr...They gave up 9pts/game.
AUB's 2010 DEF - a NC yr...They gave up 24pts/game.
ALA's 2011 DEF - a NC yr...They gave up 8pts/game.
AUB doesn't look all that stout defensively, to me!!!
But I guess since you like what Oregon does...the next question should be...Does Oregon play SEC DEF?? NO...They outscore their opponents using a similar spread attack to what LaTech uses, only w/ less passing!!!
Against a much, much inferior schedule.
True...UK is ONLY giving up 33.2pts/gm to LaTech's 36.2 /gm...
But the other side of that equations is that LaTech is scoring 53.4pts/gm to UK's 16.4/pts/gm.
I dunno about you guys..But I'd rather be outscoring my opponents by 17, rather than getting trounced by 17 a game!
What I find the most amusing about your breakdown of this situation is that you act as if you have to pick which to be good at. Offense or defense. News flash slick. You can be good at both!
I don't want Dykes without a top DC.
No, never even came close to that kind of statement..However, You sure come across like DEF is the only way to win games in the SEC...I'm saying that the ONLY thing that matters is outscoring your opponent.
(IE...Which is exactly what guys like Sonny Dykes & Chip Kelly preach!)
I hear ya. I would much rather have a HC/DC and then go out and get a Brown or Kingsbury or the like.
We'll fair much better IMHO with the head man being a Defensive coach.
Mike MacIntyre is a defensive minded coach yet SJSU ranks in the top 40 in most statistical categories and average 35 points a game. Dave Doeren at N.Illinois does the same thing. Just cause a coach is defensive minded doesn't mean they ignore the offense.
"Kentucky Football needs to be and will be a championship contender in the SEC."~Mitch Barnhart 11/4/12
Right, NOT necessarily. Never meant to imply that was the case.
However, IMHO I see HC's that focus on "O" typically have the "I'll just out score you" mentality. Even Spurrier learned that didn't work in the SEC.
HC's(DC's) SEEM to get OC's that drive them crazy to defend.
Got to have "D" to win in the SEC.
Many more highly successful OC's IMHO than DC's, that is why it is critical to have a HC that understands stresses the importance of "D" in this league.
My 2 cents.
