Who are the candidates for each school and the likely replacement?
Arkansas ... I think they go hard after Charlie Strong and eventually lure him from UTs grasp..
Tennessee ... I think they make a strong push for Gruden, who ultimately turns them down, gets outbid for Strong and ultimately ends up with Kirby Smart..
Auburn ... I think they end up pulling the trigger on Petrino and he accepts..
Mizzou ... I do think there current coach resigns and I see them making a strong enough push to land N.illinois's head coach, who accepts..
NC St ... I think Mcintyre will be high on there list, as well as Jones, but, see them eventually landing the Fulmer/Zook como..
Cal ... They'll make a strong play for Peterson, who'll end up declining and they end up with McIntyre, a solid backup plan hire..
USC ... I think USC opts to give kiffin 1 more year due to the limited schollys and see what happens next year..
UK ... I think UK offers Mcintyre, then Tubberville, who both decline and they end up with a solid backup hire in Jones...
How's everyone else see these jobs playing out.??
You can add Boston College to that list!
Auburn is going to get hammered by the NCAA and use that as a reason to not pay Chizik. They're not going to hire Petrino and engage in another PR fiasco. I really think Auburn should have let the NCAA stuff play out first. I think they're not going to end up better off like they think they will.
Tennessee is not going to hire a Saban guy nor will Nick let them after Dooley got canned along with Salseria. Don't think they can make a Saban-esque hire but they need one.
USC's going to keep Kiffin for the lulz.
Cal is going to hire an Oregon guy
N.C. State just canned O'Brien after he avg. 8 wins a year. They got their sights set on something but I don't know who. I think Jones will get targeted for this job as a fallback option.
Arkansas I'm going with Strong. I don't think they'll lure Peterson out of there.
Add Colorado to the list....they were probably the worst BCS team this season.
After two years trying to clean up the trainwreck that Dan Hawkins left.
It's times like these that make me seriously consider abandoning college athletics for good.
If the money's right, which it likely will be, I don't think Saben would be able to stop the move for Smart, if Smart thinks he's ready and willing to go.. Who do you think they end up with?
I hadn't really given the Auburn sanctions much thought, but, regardless of the sanctions, there's some serious talent returning from that roster and may only be a QB away from being right back in the hunt for an SEC title..I'd have to think, alot of coaches would be intriqued by the job and I really don't think they have much scrupples to hire a petrino type..It's all about winning there, wspecially with Saben being so strong right now..
What Oregon guy are you thinking CAL will get? I still think McIntyre would really listen if they offered..
NC St could go in alot of directions, Fulmer, Tubberville, Jones, Vandy's coach.. Being in the ACC and being a BB school, not sure they're willing to pay what a big name guy would covet, so, i think it'll either be a proven, older guy or a non BCS up and comer..
It's Tuberville. One 'B'. Tuberville. This drives me crazy.
Debbie Yow came out with the "we're gonna get a coach who can attract 'Alabama-type' talent".
Unless they got somebody huge in place I don't have any idea what N.C. State is doing.
^^^This settles it... I can FINALLY get some damn rest.
And I knew that and still typed it wrong...Sorry Matt...
Purdue as well, firing season is open for coaching turkeys!
They're doing exactly what UK should've done IMO, they're going to make a mind boggling offer to James Franklin. Of all the candidates out there, he's now the most sure bet of them all. He's destroying schools on the recruiting trail, translating that into wins on the field, and rallying the donor/alumi base to step up. For a school like UK or NC State, he's the dream hire from a realist point of view
Except that Yow said point blank, unsolicited, that Franklin will not be a candidate.
That's not what was reported yesterday by Charlotte tv stations.
Jeremy Fowler and Bret Strelow (who was at the press conference) say otherwise.
She's going to go after Cowher.
This is how I think the coaching searches will pan out...
Arkansas - Charlie Strong (originally from Arkansas)
Auburn - Bobby Petrino
Cal - Oregon OC or MacIntyre
Kentucky - MacIntyre or Jones
Missouri - Dave Doeren or Sonny Dykes
NC State - who knows! Cowher is not walking through that door
Purdue - Dave Doeren or Sonny Dykes
Tennessee - Bob Stoops (might bring Mark in to run the defense)
USC - doesn't want to pay Kiffin to leave, so they will keep him for another year or two
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and it has made all the difference (Frost).
Alot of those selections make sense.. I'm still not convinced that Tuberville doesn't end up with one of these jobs, most likely, Mizzou, Kentucky or Arkansas, because I think he would prefer to get back in the SEC somewhere and Auburns done been down that road, so, it won't happen there..
