Pretty standard, actually, for an SEC football program. I'm sure this is exactly what ole Eli has in mind for CWS. LOL
Seriously folks, WTF is uk doing by staying in this conference? Its one of the worst "matches" of any conference.
Minter, I've given up trying to figure that out. I just don't know anymore.
Been a Cat fan since August of '92
I don't know enough about "Ole Eli" to say. What I do know that is a hell of a lot of money, 425 million! My question is what are Texas A&M facilities like right now? I've never been there?
A&M's facilities are already incredible.
And how do you know this? Just asking? Have you been there?
Wow. That's a lot of dough. Your talking almost half a billion dollars...Way over the top excessive if you ask me.

Ole Eli's "UK has mid level SEC facilities" statement is looking more & more ridicules. (And it was a banger to begin w/)
While UK has been in the SEC since it's conception..And has decided that FB is just a means to an ends from a financial stand point...Their own personal cash cow that keeps everything afloat for UK BB & sports no one really gives two cents about.
aTm has been in the SEC like 4wks...Yet they want to compete at the highest level in FB & are willing to do what is necessary to do that...And by planning/putting a Gold Standard FB program together for it's coaches, players, students & fans...It will reap huge financial benefits in the long term (even at that price tag!) and will likely reach the top well before UK finds the mid tier!

I have been there...nice place with a great game day even by the high SEC standards. Their stadium needs some money put into it to be top of the line...I can't speak to the other facilities.
The sad thing is aTm was one of the programs used by a poster here as an example of how UK was "keeping up" with the rest of the SEC on these boards the past two weeks. Mizzou was also noted. Well, those two aren't going to be standing pat like we seem fine doing. It was a horrible comparison to make then, and it is just laughable now. Bottom line, we keep up with Vandy and MSU and Ole Miss sometimes...the rest of the league blows us out of the water.
I'm 100% in on changing conferences. UK to the ACC for FSU straight up!!!
"I'm 100% in on changing conferences. UK to the ACC for FSU straight up!!!"
Yup, the charade needs to end.
Wow! For one UK would lose money doing this. Secondly UK is a founding member of the SEC. Why would any true fan want to run and hide like that! Stupid idea all the way around!
Why in the name of all that's holy would you wish to change conferences? I'd rather be the suckiest program in the best conference than the suckiest in a crappy conference. What makes anybody think we'd compete in the ACC? We'd bubble up next to Duke and Wake Forest each year. And the new SEC Network at least gives us hope of an influx of money, not to mention our cut of the major bowls each year. Without SEC money we will sink even further. It's maddening as fans but we would never pull out of the dive leaving the SEC would cause.
I would like for someone to show us all how exactly we would lose money doing this? How much money are we losing now by not being competitive??? How much money might we gain with success? The other conferences are not just going to stop increasing the size of their TV contracts either. The ACC owns better TV markets than the SEC right now...it's not even close in terms of markets.
These comments sound like hoptowncat typed them up.
I could care less if we were a founding member of the SEC. I could care less if it looks like we are "running", hell, we should be running...we should be sprinting. A true fan would want to win some games even if they were against UNC, Duke, Maryland, Virginia, etc. instead of taking a constant a$$ pounding week in and week out.
If you guys want to suck balls then you've picked the right team apparently.
With all that said, we need to commit to football regardless of conference, but it surely seems like we are FAR FAR behind the eight ball in the SEC and will never catch up. I don't feel that way about some other conferences.

Short answer. TV contract money! UK would lose millions. Also if you want to sprint to the ACC so bad go cheer for a team in that conference. I personally like playing the best of the best! Not running to the 5th best football conference in college football. A basketball only fan would though!
Good thing about it though it will never happen, so I really don't why I'm even having this stupid discussion. Good-bye!

^^^ See, there is a problem w/ your thinking on staying in the SEC...Yes, the future SEC network will bring in more money...But what your failing to include in your thought process is, that's more $$$ for the Admin to shuffle on over to their pet projects...(FR Dorms...Women's Field Hockey locker rooms...new Science Labs...Cushy new Professor Chairs for the entire staff...A 100" plasma for Wildcat Lodge's basement lounge & pool area...a Solid Gold throne in the new MBB locker rooms in RUPP...etc.)
You can pretty much bet that UK FB will get like 0.4% of whatever is leftover...Maybe.
IMO, If UK is unwilling to compete in FB & ONLY cares about being the GOLD STANDARD in MBB...Might as well look at exiting the SEC for the ACC. As the SEC is FB country & the ACC is where BB rules.!
And I could see UK performing admirably in FB against a less formidable schedule & competing = as well against MUCH BETTER BB programs (than what's in the SEC). Personally, I would not mind seeing Duke, Maryland, UNC, NCSt, Wake, GT, VT & UV yrly at the NEW RUPP & LEX entertainment district....or traveling to Chapel Hill, Blacksburg & Charlottesville for away games in the fall.
Now, is that running away from the SEC??? Maybe, but I'm at the end of my rope when it comes the groundhog day that is UK FB. One sh-tty yr after another. No admin support regardless of who's in charge...Nothing changes but the coaches every few yrs.
(Think about it...UK FB is trying to sell recruits w/ $158K in Fatheads & UK wallpaper at the Nutter...When EVERYONE ELSE in the SEC is selling kids on new/modern/approved for construction FB only facilities/stadium upgrades. Even frickin' Vandy!!!!)
What's stupid is running our kids out there every year to slaughter and embarrassment under the guise of competition... While collecting a paycheck like a DII team at the beginning of every season.
I don't like uncompetitive public pole axings representing me and my alma mater.
The ACC has better TV markets...the SEC might have a better contract for the time being, but who knows how long that will last. How much money do we lose by having 40K people in the stands on Saturdays?
It's easy to just yell "TV contracts" and excuse yourself from debate, but I am not convinced.
Another short answer. Yes it is running. People like you and a few others just have a losers mentality when it comes to football. One reason is you care about basketball more than football. That's fine, I don't have a problem with that. But don't use that agenda to put football in a conference that would take the level of competition to a low where football wouldn't be profitable anymore. Lets see UK vs. UGA or UK vs. Wake. Kind of a no brainer don't you think?
LOL! College football is way more profitable than college basketball. If you don't know this then you have been living under a rock! You can't be serious! How in the hell will the ACC ever get a better TV contract than the conference that has the last six NCAA Champs in football? Do you see how silly you sound? Come on!
Us losers care just as much about football as you do....I guess we're just real losers who are too stupid to know any better what a huge mistake it would be.
We are simply debating, raising points, and disagreeing...we haven't resorted to calling you names, questioning your motives, or refusing to give you credit for being a fan.

Didn't call you a loser. Read it again. This time slowly. I said it's a losers mentality when it comes to football not that you were a loser. Nice try though.
I don't know what Eli Capilouto's background is but I'm guessing it isn't in finance. Else he would know that cutting corners in the top revenue producing area of your organization is a foolish business decision and will wind up costing you much more in foregone profit sooner or later, than you think you are saving today.
Not only that but for land grant schools like UK, the major sports programs are the heart and soul of the university. They provide the image that people identity with and associate you with. If the image is mediocrity or even worse, down right embarrassment, that's that image that is applied to the entire university and the perception bleeds over onto the academic areas as well.
"Ignorance is constricted awareness" - Deepak Chopra
So...You do not like someone else putting words in your mouth...But it's perfectly OK for you to do so to me???
JFYI, I do not care more about BB than FB...but it has been made perfectly clear to me by the UK Admin that they sure as heck do choose BB over FB! (Thus my GOLD STANDARD references to BB ...and giving examples of how UK FB has been shortchanged - at the same time as the $18M Wildcat Lodge was being finished - they spent $158K & 2wks putting in the Fatheads & Wallpaper & fake NFL plaques!).
So w/ the "People Like ME W/ a Loser mentality" comment as side...let me ask something... Miami, Clemson, VTech & FSU are in the ACC, correct???....And they are "big time" FB schools, No??? (Just like ALA, UGA, UF & LSU)...GT, UVA, UNC, NCSt have had their moments in the sun...Pitt / SYR are used-to-be's w/ a history. Wake has been to the Orange Bowl as the ACC champ in the not too distant past.... ONLY DUKE is a ACC FB suck school..(Kinda like UK & Vandy in the SEC!)
So, It's not like UK would be shuffling off to CUSA or CUSA2 (BigLeast) or something. Name teams would still be traveling to LEX...The tailgating would continue, as normal...The ONLY difference is...UK would have a fighters chance at getting the "W". (Unlike the last 62yrs when UK hasn't had more than a handful of winning records in the SEC - no more than 2-3 w/o being on some form of probation!!!) And they more than likely get to 6-7-8 wins on a regular basis...Vs the 3-4-5 in the SEC.
FB wins move the needle...Sell season tickets & merchandise...Creates positive energy among the fan-base & student body. And yes, winning more FB games provides a more consistent revenue stream.
So IMO, your points are somewhat short sighted. Again, JMO...But I'd rather be middle of the pack in FB in the #5 big conference (where our facilities are as good or better than most of the league)...Than constantly #13/14 in the SEC - ( w/o ANY hope of ever being on a level playing field (due to lack of institutional support!).

Exactly .... college football is the cash cow of college athletics and it's not even close. The SEC brings in more and pays out more to member schools than any conference out there based on football alone.
College football is way more profitable than college basketball.--I never questioned this. I never even mentioned it.
If you don't know this then you have been living under a rock!--Another insult. Typical of a poster who doesn't feel they can argue on merit. I'm sick of the condensation though.
How in the hell will the ACC ever get a better TV contract than the conference that has the last six NCAA Champs in football?--The ACC owns or shares these television markets: New York, Pittsburgh, Charlotte and the rest of NC, Virginia, Washington DC, Baltimore, Maryland, FSU has a national following, Atlanta, Miami and south FL, North and central FL, and Boston. Those markets are WAY WAY better than the SEC markets. For the moment, the SEC makes more money there is no debate, but the SEC can be overcome and the ACC has the markets to do it.
Do you see how silly you sound?--Just because you insult people doesn't make you right and them wrong.
