Excellent post. The one and done makes it possible for Cal's reign to last a little longer than Roy's or K's. Even some UK fans don't realize that.
Yeah I'm not so sure about that either. First of all nobody gets the one and done top talents to produce like Cal does which IMO can't even be argued. Secondly with our championship this year it creates a certain mindset around the program and for kids coming into the program. A certain confidence that it can be done. A team full of frosh and Sophs can win a national championship especially if a nice upperclassmen leader is already in place. Thirdly we've seen how hard winning a championship can be even for the greatest programs and the most extreme talent possible. These are all things you can bet the Harrisons are taking notes on. Lastly even if we don't get Randle or Parker which its looking like we'll miss on both at this point(obviously things can change-lol-perfect little sidenote for the gist of this thread) I'm still totally amiss at how you think the two rosters would be pretty equal given we both have the Harrisons. I'm calling BS on that. I'm gonna need solid facts on the rest of your roster in which I can't name one player to make a definitive dx on that.
Im sorry but that's ridiculous. Im not saying that your team or even your supporting cast won't be solid but the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be nowhere near level playing field with KY in 2013.
With or without Randle OR Parker, Cal could be looking at his BEST class yet. Soak that in....his BEST class. The difference is we will land numerous 5 * talents. Some schools are thrilled to haul in 1 or even 2 5* studs (everybody else) while ky brings in 5* rosters.
Right now, NO ONE especially Maryland is recruiting anywhere close to KY right now...NO ONE has seen recruiting like this before. Will it last forever? No way. Can Maryland even sniff what Cal and UK are doing right now? Absolutely not. Period.
To think the Turtles will be on par with them recruiting wise as a whole is laughable at best.
We deal with the LOD here. You guys are gonna have to come a lot harder than that to rattle us. Your amusing at best...cute little turtles wanting to hang with the big boys....priceless. Go to Syracuse or NC St. Board that's more your level. Your way WAY outta your league and element here.
Amen, man. Nothing like some good decent banter without name calling, jack@$$ assumptions, etc.
Keep Calm & Stoops On..
Sure, I'd love to breakdown the two rosters. There's always the possibility of roster turnover, and especially with you guys some assumptions will have to be made. I'm going to assume Noel/Poythress/Goodwin are all gone to the league, and that Cauley, Wiltjer, and Harrow stick around. I'm sure Harrow has improved tremendously since he's been at UK, but he was absolutely terrible at NC State. As for other recruits in the '13 class, I think we can agree that UK is a strong favorite for James Young and Chris Walker, but probably wont pull off Parker or Randle. This would give us a core of
1 Andrew Harrison
2 Aaron Harrison
3 James Young
4 Kyle Wiltjer
5 Willie Cauley
Ryan Harrow, Chris Walker
This team is clearly awesome. It's loaded with talent and is a pre-season T5 team pretty much any season. If you were going to put it up against next year's group of contenders, I'd probably put it pre-season #1. But of course, you guys already know all that, so allow me to introduce you to the +Harrison Terps:
1 Andrew Harrison
2 Aaron Harrison
3 Nick Faust
4 Alex Len
5 Shaq Cleare
Pe'shon Howard, Jake Layman,
Here's a breakdown of the players who, unless you're college basketball diehards (like I am), you probably aren't familiar with.
Nick Faust: Nick was a T40 recruit for espn, scout, and rivals, and put together a solid freshmen season. He was forced to play out of position, and at the beginning of the year he shot poorly, but he really stepped things up in conference play and made the ACC All-Freshmen first team. He'll be the leader of the team next year, and by the time he's a junior he should be one of the top players in the ACC.
Alex Len: Len is a 7'1 pf/center from Ukraine. He had was frequently pushed around in the paint this past season because of his slight frame and his difficulty adjusting to the American game. But he showed flashes of brilliance and his potential as a mobile 7 footer is through the roof. A bunch of draft sites have him as a lottery pick this season, but I think he's going to need another year to develop.
Shaq Cleare: Most recruiting sites have Shaq just outside the T30, and nearly all of them have him ahead of Cauley. The twins and Shaq were AAU teammates on the Houston Defenders, and together they were able to beat BABC to win the AAU 'ship last summer. Shaq is a little undersized, but he's a great rebounder, has a soft touch, and is incredibly strong. After a year of conditioning he's going to be one of the toughest bigs in the ACC. Also, Aaron Sr. has described Shaq as "like a brother to the twins."
Jake Layman: Recruiting sites have him in the 50's or 60's but that's hugely underrating him. He was a late surprise to a lot of people because he played (and completely dominated) weak competition in Massachusettes. He was the sixth man on that aforementioned great BABC team, and he's been the most productive player on the USA U18 team. After he puts some meat on his bones, he'll be a major contributor. Think Mike Dunleavy Jr.
This team is full of talented players who perfectly compliment the Twins' game. Whether they choose Kentucky or Maryland, they'll be able to compete immediately at the highest level.
The best part about this conversation is it doesnt matter if UK gets the twins or not. They will still have a top class and be a top 10 team. Maryland? Well Maryland better get the twins...
It smells like microwaved homeless people in here.
ya dude not even close maryland sucks
The twins wouldn't be enough...not nearly enough
You like how Donatello (or which ever Ninja turtle he is) doesn't have us signing a top #4 or #5. Lol.
Even if we miss on both Parker AND Randle (which i think we have a great shot at Randle) Cal could STILL haul in his best class to date.
HIS BEST CLASS TO DATE.
How delusional are Terp fans? And people say UK fans have unrealistic expectations. Wow....
Lets just keep this short and simple. I'd take James Young, Wiltjer, Cauley, Harrow, and Walker over anybody any player you guys have on your team. 4/5 of those guys are 5 star guys, the other has quite possibly the most upside of all bigs outside of Noel in the 2012 class. I've never even heard of the guys you're throwing out and I follow recruiting pretty closely. Funny thing is in the end we're gonna have the Twins as well.
"Perfectly compliment the Twins game." Thats the type of thing you argue when you know you lost the argument.
No, it's when we start talking about the history of the kentucky football program.
Come on out and get your whoopin!
Yeah if only we could be mediocre in a FBS conference.
Part of the reason guys didn't come out last year was the uncertainty over the NBA season.
I saw Maryland a few times last year and Alex Len looks like he's going to be really good eventually.
Faust has some big upside too.
I don't think it's that much of a stretch to think the twins picking Maryland over UK would put them on par with what our roster will be that season but I think it's safe to say the twins picking UK would make the gap enormous and likely make us the pre season favorite that year.
Ofcourse i dont think it will kill Maryland to lose the twins because I don't believe their coaching staff is counting on them being terps in the end either.
You know what's hilarious? The whole football and crab cakes myth. The crab and lobster are both better a bit further north and im assuming they know football so well because they are always at home watching the games during bowl season...that's a lot if time to study film.
How about some recent history?
Since 2006 the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been to 4 bowl games.
Since 2006 UK has been to 5 bowl games.....
Its really simple...
UK > Maryland.
UK is something like 5 points from winning the Capital One Cup. In case you don't know that's the award given to the top athletic program in college sports.
Where your turtles?

Even I can admit that one of the better coaches in Terrapin football history is a wildcat.
Here's the problem with both arguments, it's all based on essentially both coaching staffs feel very confident they will get the Twins, I personally think for Maryland, they're probably putting all of their resources into the Twins though which either way if they were falling behind or not, they probably would never back down. Although Maryland had the Twins visiting, yes, they were very close, and yes there was family in the area, so it all adds up as to that. While I would take the unofficial they took to UK, as they visited for Big Blue Madness, and got the opportunity to experience the atmosphere. I personally would say UK has the lead, and it's a two horse race at 55/45. Honestly, anything can happen in recruiting, they're more than likely announcing on their birthday in October, and that's still plenty of time for something to happen. Honestly though, to say Maryland's roster would be close to being on the level of UK's that year even with the Harrison's though, is laughable. If UK does indeed miss on them, they can still turn to Wayne Selden, Xavier Raythan-Mayes, Keith Frazier, and many other guards, while still likely get James Young, and Chris Walker, as many of the others would be wild cards. Also many of you forget... There's still a possibility Andrew Wiggins could re-classify to 2013, if that happens and UK does indeed miss on Jabari Parker, they are not missing out AT ALL. Wiggins is a better prospect than Parker, and is going to be a superstar, a friend that's a Tar Heel fan also even said "He's the closest to Lebron I've ever seen." This easily would separate any doubt of Maryland being close to any level of UK's roster though, I honestly don't want to sound cocky at all, I have a lot of respect for Maryland, but I mean honestly, you Terp fans may not realize how many recruits in 2013 have serious interest in UK.
I really and truly don't have anything against Maryland at all. I actually root for them when they play dUKe and UNC. However, when you come onto a UK board and start talkin a little smack (not necessarily you) its kinda like poking a bear (or a Wildcat lol) in the eye with a toothpick.
This will get really fun if the SEC goes to 16 and does what a lot of people think they should do by thinking the DC market.

Are we now getting smacked by merryland fans? Now that is funny!
I think you guys are missing the point here. IF the twins choose Maryland there is enough talent on hand in College Park to compete for a Final 4 berth in 2013-14. But we're not - or at least I'm not - saying that if the twins go to Maryland then the Terps would be favored over that specific Kentucky team, which as you said would find a way to add another big name or two to a stacked roster. You can be a title contender and not be the obvious No. 1 team. Happens all the time.
Okay. Who? Which names are you considering "enough talent on hand in College Park to compete for a Final 4 berth"?
Chris, this is probably a better place to ask this than on our board. What do you make of Kentucky's offer to James Young?
I don't follow the nuances of Kentucky hoops recruiting (particulary under Cal's tenure) to know. Blue bloods tend to have to be a lot more careful about commitable offers because everyone is liable to jump. As opposed to other schools which will often float a few more out there to be safe.
Per your post, Kentucky hasn't sniffed any other points but Aaron's part of a package deal so I was just wondering about Young. Of course, Bledsoe and Wall were 1/2 at guard spots and you can get creative with lineups so I'm not suggesting it's a deal breaker. Really, just looking for insight into the offer. Because the twins are different in that they're an automatic two players for any program to take on.
How many times do the players need to be named? Just because we signed some guys that weren't in the top 20 doesn't mean they aren't capable players.
-Shaquille Cleare was a top 50 recruit everywhere, twins teammate in Houston, 6'9" 270 manchild.
-Alex Len, 7'2" Ukrainian who is athletic, can shoot and had a block percentage that rivals Gorgui Dieng. He is a lottery pick if he puts it all together.
-Evan Smotrycz is a 6'8" PF who is a lights out shooter and was a key piece as a sophomore for a very good Michigan team.
-Damonte Dodd, who is prepping, and Charles Mitchell were both top 100 caliber recruits.
-Pe'Shon Howard who had a very solid freshmen year before being hurt all last year, is a very solid combo guard
-Nick Faust, another top 50 recruit with a boatload of offers (since apparently this matters so much), who is a very athletic slasher, lockdown defender who improved his shot greatly at the end of the season as a freshmen despite playing out of position all year on a bad team.
-Sam Cassell Jr and Seth Allen who will show what they are worth this year. Both have excellent potential, especially Allen
-Jake Layman a SF who, despite only being ranked in the 60's!, was coveted by Billy Donovan, Rick Pitino, Jim Boeheim and held a ton of other offers. He just made the USA U-18 team and has been one of the most versatile players there. 6'8" athletic, long, can shoot, excellent defender.
There are other basketball players out there besides the ones that are ranked in the top 20 of their class. Maybe they can't dominate as freshmen but they are all going to get significant time this year and will be primed for the sophomore jump when the twins would be coming in.
