Per someone that absolutely knows what's going on, UK approached a very proven headcoach with MAJOR SEC ties about the opening this week. This is a guy that would fall into the proverbial "HOME RUN" hire. The candidate's camp told UK they would need Calipari type money and assurances of future investments. The discussion ended right there.
just curious, but what happened to the "money won't be an issue" train of thought? I assume we probably couldn't guarantee future investments?
There is a weird psychological component to paying a football coach more than Cal at UK. It's not going to happen.
That sounds like Fulmer. He's the only one that I can think of off the top of my head that people have mentioned that actually fits the description.
The only other one is Petrino, but I would classify him as having "major SEC ties."
I would be very curious to hear what coach you are speaking of, Minter. I'm among those fans clamoring for UK to demonstrate a clear commitment to being successful in football. But even still, given every single post you make is critical of UK football, its coaches, the administration, and recruits, I suspect that you would be reluctant to label anybody UK actually hires a "Home Run". So what candidate that is not going to be hired fit that bill for you?
The demand for money doesn't sound like Fulmer--not that I know anything about him personally but he was apparently pretty hot after the Louisville job and they weren't going to pay anything like that.
The only football coaches in Cal's stratosphere are Saban, Brown, Stoops, and Meyer. Whether it's Petrino or Dan Mullen or really anybody, it's incredibly difficult to come up with somebody who would deserve that kind of money. We're not going to get that good of a coach or one with that kind of track record and therefore shouldn't expect to pay at that level.
As for paying a football coach more than Cal--that's not any weird logic. Cal has demonstrably proved himself to be at the very top of college coaches and should be paid at that level. Our football coach will not be in that category because coaches at that level don't just follow the money, they find the job and those jobs are at Alabama and Oklahoma, not Kentucky.
No, you're right. The demand for money doesn't sound like Fulmer....but that's the only one I can think of. I don't think Saban, Stoops, or Meyer would even consider switching where they are for any amount.....So I just deduced that it had to have been Fulmer since he's the only one that matches the description.
Well, who was it Minter?
Been a Cat fan since August of '92
I'm thinking he means BP. If he is then I'm calling bs. Plus the coach asked for Saban money which is ridiculous.
Thanks for the info minter
Is petrino worth 3.9 million a year?
In a word, Yes.
Then why not just say so from the beginning? Why lead us down another path.
In a few more words I was hoping we could get him at a lot lower price coming in and bump it up quite a bit in a couple years.
Plus it would only be $4 mil for 2-3 yrs......
He doesn't deserve that type of money right away. He wants to jump right back into where he was a few years ago with no strings attached. That's not gonna happen.
I doubt anything people hear at this point especially from minter considering his constant negative agenda.
This is likely just piling on Barnhart.
Ps: a. Barnhart will never hire Petrino. B. if its uk vs auburn money doesn't matter. People in auburn have always wanted Petrino. People in Lexington have always hated him.
This story isn't true.
