Per 24/7 Cincy Site.....
Wow... not sure what to think just yet.
I love it..... Hard nosed, young, and can recruit.
will he take the job?
You guys are assuming the report on the Cincy site is true. May be, but I find it hard to believe that jones would interview before the season is over.
Please please please
What are they saying on the site? I can't see any of the posts.
Been a Cat fan since August of '92
I like Butch Jones, maybe not my #1, but a solid choice for a number of reasons. I can't imagine Jones is being publicly offered the job if there is a substantial chance he says no.
He was always near the top of my list, but I must admit... I was disappointed with his teams performance against Rutgers. Game preparation is a problem we've already been dealing with for a while... we need a coach who knows how to motivate and get players mentally prepared on game day.
Rumored offer is 5 years / 16.5 million....
Rutgers were ranked in Top 25, so it wasn't an upset.
Man, I hope this is true. Butch is a really good proven coach. He's 2a on my list.
Don't get me wrong... if this holds true, I will be behind him 100%. My optimism will return... and I will be excited about UK football once again.
Any chance Neal Brown would join his staff?
This is a guy that has coached for 6 yrs at 2 different schools.....he is proven to consistently win 10+/- games a yr. Please don't judge his performance off of one loss against a top 25 team.
I like Jones but he makes me a little nervous. I just don't know how much of his success comes from following Brian Kelly. I do believe he will be a good hire if he accepts and I think he will unite the fan base.
Understood that its a issue, but there will be questions no matter who you hire.
Petrino - the unethical behavior
Smart - lack of HC experience
Jones - has he benefitted from following Kelly
Dykes - lack of HC experience, style of play, recruiting, lower level of football
on and on and on.
What you can say about Jones' question is that he has done it twice and been successful....which may mean that the success is due more to coaching rather than the players. Also "on paper" his recruiting classes are just as good as Kelly's in both places.
Actually his recruiting classes are better.
He would have a shot to win right away at uk too. Max smith is better than any qb he has ever coached.
3.3 M a year for Jones is stupid. he's done nothing.
you kind of have to considering UK plays top 25 teams oh 6 times a year.
UK is gonna have to pay $3million+ to get anyone with a pulse at this point.
Very solid hire in my book if it pans out. The guy has a proven track record. Compare this hire to UT hiring Dooley, I think Jones wins leaps and bounds.
This is wonderful if its true!!!
Compared to the last 5 or six head coaches hired in the sec this would be the first "winning" coach from a bcs school. Chizick was the only other current bcs coached hired in sec and he was a big loser at Iowa state. The other sec hires were non bcs head coaches ( Dooley, ole miss new coach, etc...) or coordinators ( Franklin, Mullen, Florida hc etc...).
One thing I like about Jones is... he's great behind the mic. He interviews well, knows how to work the media and most importantly... represents his program like a champ.
Seems like a decent option. If it's true and he jumps on board I will fully support him. Should help UK recruit Cincy/Ohio also.
