Keep dreaming. No way in hell Butch goes to UK. He turns down IL, UCLA and UNC but takes UK?! lMFAO.
$50 to join - We need YOU!
You are exactly right this kind of attitude from fans is something that needs to change and with some fans it will never change even if Lombardi came back and took the coaching job some fans wouldnt think it was good enough. I believe change needs to change but also that the AD needs to be changed but I know now thats not going to happen so who ever Mitch hires we will need to be supportive because to do otherwise will doom this program further.
Thank you my friend, and got your message, spot on. Let's see how this guy plays out, but we fans who expect more need to band together and push the stone up the hill. Will shoot you a number to catch me on so we can talk more about things.
Are you being facetious? You surely can't be serious!
He may with the Big East falling apart at the seams like it is rumored to be.
To all of you who are bashing Jones and his resume... and who are bashing Mitch for making Jones an offer, instead reeling in that so-called "home run" miracle coach... have you even considered the possibility that all potential "HR's" were contacted already, but told Mitch they are not interested?
Maybe Jones is the best option remaining on his list... and we'd be lucky if even HE accepted. In the position we are in now and considering the state of our program, it's foolish for any of us to expect any better... what the hell kind of "HR" coach would be interested in UK; Especially, when there are better jobs available?

Name the last sec program to hire an existing bcs coach... Go
I just read Vaughts piece and he is right and follows what Ihave been saying for some time now that the AD needs to step up or he has to go. The entire administration has been missing in action during this whole Joker Phillips situation and even before that. The AD really does need to give full attention to the nedds of the football program like he does to the b-ball program. If he doesnt the stands wil not be full next year and also if he doesnt make some assurances that things will change then a top notch coach will not commit to come to this school and have to battle for things that should already be in place.
Personally i would not call any team in the big east or the big east a bcs league or team. If you can't win in that league it would be a shame. There is a reason they are losing their automatic bid. You may win in the big east and go to SEC & not win 2 games!! It would be hard to judge very many coach's Ability by their big east records, but i will back whoever we hire until they prove not to be the right person!

So thier saying theres a chance lol
Most people .are talking about the Home run coaching hire and equte that with a big name coach but thats not neccesarilly true. A "home run hire" can be a coach who isnt well known but can come in here and turn this disaster of a program into a winner. So the new coach doesnt have to have name recognition but ability to be our "home run hire"

Thats what everyone is over looking on this.
I don't always post but when I do, I try to make things interesting
I don't think you should tell people what their version of a "home run hire" is. My personal definition of a "HRH" would be a coach that could get the program to a bowl game in a season or two. Then continue to build the program to a competitor in the east. Although some make this seem impossible, it's not. My version of a HRH may not be yours but, it's also not wrong.
The fanbase's coaching choices differ by their expectations and wants. You we all know don't want BP. I personally think he would move the program in the "right" direction, for immediate gratification. If the AD or Pres don't like the way the program is headed they could always fire/not renew the contract or if he left, UK would have better selection pool than now. Because BP would most likely make them a bowl contender in short order.
So you see our definition of a HOME RUN HIRE differ significantly or do they? Probably just all about immediate choice of candidate and time frame for gratification expectations. That's my opinion.
I'd consider Jones a Hone Run hire.. He's got charisma, solid X and O guy, plays an exciting style, he's a relentless hard worker, exudes confidence, his defenses play physical and has a proven track record, albeit, in the BEast and MAC.. The only question mark would be how good a recruiter he'd be.. In saying that, I'd expect him to be able to lure in a higher quality player, simply because UK has better facilities, play in a better, more stable conference and because of how much effort I think he'd put into it and the staff I think he'd put in place.. I'm still trying to determine who a HR hire would be in some peoples eyes.. Petrino, Gruden, Dungy, Saben, Holmgren? Maybe so, but, which of these would actually even consider UK, especially over jobs at Arkansas, Auburn and Tennessee, programs that have already proven themselves to be all in.. Even if UK is all in regarding football, not a single one of those would come.. Petrino may be the only one and I'd bet my salary that he'd much rather coach at Auburn or Tennessee and I definately think he'd be a temporary fix and would bolt after 3-4 years, max..
Oh, yes, it was dripping with sarcasm. The point was that top 25 ranked teams win.....hence why they are ranked. They beat other teams all the time. Butch Jones is no slouch of a HC. Brian Kelly won 10-11 games a yr at Cincy (Big East).....went on to ND and will likely play for a NC this yr. Petrino won 9-12 games in the Big East and everyone can see how good he is. Butch Jones has won 9-10 games a yr so far and his recruiting classes (who are "on paper" better than Kelly's) are just now starting to make an impact.
Obviously he has to go a long way to prove himself alongside guys like Petrino and Kelly, but he's trending that way.
We can all make assumptions & speculations...But I could easily see Butch Jones being on the initial short list for several reasons.
He has displayed key traits needed to succeed in the SEC, in LEX. From being a dynamic type A personality that's focused and driven..To being the creative thinker that works to overcome all obstacles, whether they be funding or football fundamentals. He's exactly the kind of guy UK needs to take this thing a little further down the line & back over the hump.
I hope they're only kissed by girls.
They say you have to crawl before you can walk.... but you also have to walk before you can run. Too many of us are expecting to go from crawling to running with this next hire.
Let's just learn to walk again first...then, RUN LIKE HELL!
Do you actually think that anything that is said on these message boards will have any effect on who is hired? MB doesn't read the crap people spew on here. The only thing he looks at is those empty seats he sees at CS. He'll hire who he thinks will put people in the seats.
Lets break is down...
1) Your downplaying the recruiting his staff has done, w/o reminding all that they were recruiting to UC's facilities/campus & to the BE...Right smack in the middle of BigTen country / tOSU's bread basket...& that he was hired mid-DEC 2009 - 6weeks to the 2010 NSD which fell on FEB 3 ...And he still pulled a class that was more highly regarded than any Brian Kelly signed during his time at UC. (used rival #'s due to ease of research)...And he also has recruited quite well, as compared to UK / Joker over his tenure in CIN.
2010 signees: UC #59 / UK #50
2011 signees: UC #49 / UK #61
2012 signees: UC #50 / UK #62
2013 commits: UC #46 / UK #59
While there's no denying Joker's staff brought in much better athletes, SEC pro-typical athletes, to UK in the last 3 yrs...(And looked to be doing so again.)...It's even more amazing to think that the only yr that Butch Jones & Co. did not get better rated classes on UC's campus - than what UK got to LEX - was that 1st season they were in CIN, when they only had 6wks to sell their new program.
I think that says a thing or two about what would be possible under Jones & Co, in LEX...Cause UK has hands down better facilities, campus life & conference to sell to potential recruits.
2) Your busting on his BE conference record??? Cracking that 20-3 over 3yrs in the MAC isn't dominating??? What would be dominating then, 23-0?
I say, look at the body of work...C.Mich was either 1 or 2 in their division & went bowling all 3 yrs...And though Yr 1 at UC was an adjustment yr & could be seen as a bad start (4-8) - That same 4-8 would be seen as progress at UK, after 2012's 2 win ringer! ...And that w/ out considering UC went 10-3 in yr 2 & are 7-3 now in yr 3...Which is called making steady progress..Something that's not been seen in LEX in a long time!
My post is not a reference to message boards - we are being vocal through our actions. As you said, he only looks at seats...
