UK football opponents...
- Their combined record is 56-17 as of this posting
- 5 of the 9 have been ranked in the top 25 per ESPN
I am not making excuses for the coaching staff, but that is a tough schedule. Now, who do you want as our next coach? List your top 3-5 below & don't worry about being realistic:
1) Butch Davis
2) Kirby Smart (no chance)
3) Bobby Petrino
4) Willie Taggart
5) Mike Leach
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and it has made all the difference (Frost).
Anyone know anything about Dave Doeren, HC at Northern Illinois? Could be an up-and-comer...
WTF... I just want a new coach. I really don't give a damn who it is at this point.
I want #3 then #2 but why has Mark Stoops FSU's D coordinator name not been brought up?
Defensive mind coach with big time ties to The Sunshine State?
Kirby Smart and Mark Stoops have been the top of my list personally, above Butch Davis. Willie Taggart has only proved he can win in the Sun Belt....we might as well keep Joker to take a chance on him. I would be skeptical about Leach also. Smart Stoops and Davis should be the top 3 right now.
This has been done before but I for 1 dont mind but it wont do any good until we get a new AD and that doesnt seem to be on anyones mind that can make that happen.
Bro u keep posting ur going to be the most up voted person of all time +1
On the Willie T thing and his power running system, how long (with our roster) would it take him to get his players in place to make a go at this?
On the Willie T thing, how long would it take for him to get his power running system up and going with the roster we have in place?
We have 4 damn good running backs IMHO but we have 2 qbs in Max and PT that can throw it all over the field +1 thats coming in next yr. And alot of very good wideouts with Yancey coming in next yr. Will we have ro reset totally or not?
If this is to me which you quoted my reply...I am no way in favor of Taggart coming to UK. There should be several people ahead of him.
Sorry bro I read it wrong. But u sound like me i want a defensive minded coach
As long as they have a good football mind, I do not care which side of the fence it lies on.
Okay I hope i can put this in a post without sounding bad but i will give it a shot.
If you will notice a Defensive minded coach pay attention to every aspect of the game form Special teams Offence & penalties, because if someone leaves his defence it a bad position he is pissed.
With a Offensive coach he just seems to worry about Offence and points thinks no matter what he will be fine and be able to score.
Thats just how i see it, watch a Oregon & a Bama game if the Oregon team messes up on D chip is like dont worry we will out score them. If the same play happens in a Bama game Saben is pissed cause they put his D in a bad spot. IMO defensive coach pay alot closer detail to every part of the game and thats what we need at this point, IMO
Well said Mine Big Blue Brethren!
Ok, how about this: Andy Ludwig OC at San Diego State. SDSU has had good success with its offense and Ludwig is an offensive genius. They have scored a ton of points except in 1 game.

The only problem with your list is that almost all of them do not have a chance of ever being a UK HC in football.
My personal favorites are Butch Jones, and Sonny Dykes followed by Hudspeth. However as a fan I realize that my knowledge of these coaches and others is very limited. Therefore I would feel a lot more comfortable if they would form a search committee composed of former UK players like Dermonte Dawson, Tim Couch, Jeff Van Nolte and others that really understand the business and know what to look for in a potentially successful coach. I trust their judgment a lot more than my own or for that matter Mitch Barnhart's.
That model seemed to work fairly well with the last basketball head coach selection.

I like this post.
Some good names and very qualified ex-UK players mentioned.
A committee like that could get appointed for show, and that's not a big deal. Maybe a bit of a time waster.
But if there's a committee like that really searching for a coach, then that's a problem. Mitch can make lists just like we can--only with a lot more knowledge and insight. He knows who he can work with and who he can't and I'm sure he's already put feelers out to his top picks.
However deep that list is, if we're in the process of truly canvassing the nation for a coach who's accomplishments have not already put him on the candidate's list, we're in bigger trouble than we might imagine. I'm not saying that this is not the case--we might well be in that kind of shape where nobody much wants the job.
I think the coaching hire this time is a game of dominos. The best candidates are going to wait on some of the better jobs. Not all of them will get there and there could be some very enticing leftovers, but it's not going to be a case of picking your man and going after him.
1. Mike MacIntyre
2. Dave Doeren
3. Mark Hudspeth
4. Sonny Dykes
5. Gary Andersen
"Kentucky Football needs to be and will be a championship contender in the SEC."~Mitch Barnhart 11/4/12
The danger with a defensive-minded coach, however, is that they can often be conservative on offense to such an extent that their offense does not aggressively attack the opponent. I've seen it happen plenty before.
A defensive-minded coach can help your team appear to be more competitive because of their focus on strong defense and ball control on offense but it just means that you are losing games 7-6 or 14-10 instead of 35-28 with an offensive-minded coach.
For a coach to be successful at Kentucky, they have to be excellent judges of talent (to find players with SEC potential that others may have overlooked) and good developers of that talent so that more of their players reach that potential than not. And they need to instill a disciplined work ethic in their teams so that they will get the most out of the players that those players can give. Give me that guy and I don't care whether he is offensive or defensive-minded; I don't care whether he is flashy or boring.
Thats a good point, and yeah i really dont care if we win 3-0 or 82-81 i just want to win. Get a coach that wins and we will all be happy.
Damn, been telling my kids and inlaws the EXACT same thing, Get people who CARE and have a vested interest in UK football to form a committee. Feel better about that because I have ZERO faith in Mitch to get this done.
One other name I would add as person who has vested interest in UK is Howard Schnellenberger. Add him to the above and get the best we can for the money. I have complete confidence that the above would get it done.
Maybe Mitch read this and thought i was on to something lol
I love this hire hope he brings Coley at OC & DJ at DC with him
But i wouldnt mind Brown at OC
I'm ready to see the whole staff and kickoff cant come soon enough.
Did i mention how happy i am about this #IBelieveInBlue
