Rumors swirling of ga tech and UVA leaving the acc. Looks like the curse of Louisville is about to strike again.
That would be awesome. :D
Rumor has been out there awhile. Hope it pops soon.
The more fun question is how will the SEC respond?
Perfect fit for both
UNC-CH & Duke to the SEC and NC St., Clemson, FSU & Miami to the Big 12. Everyone else to the Ish Outta Luck League
Keep Calm & Stoops On..
In the grand scheme of things, it will all work out and not be that important. But right now, it just feels like it is killing college athletics. Part of the fun is saying 'my conference is better than your conference.' Before long, everyone is going to be in the same conference.
College athletics is busy imploding, and this is just a side product. Once it became all about the money everything changed and became ridiculous.
My personal opinion is that conferences should be very regional and have no more than 8-10 members. But this apparently isn't conducive to making as much money as humanly possible off of the minor leaguers, so here we are. There are rumblings on teh intarnet that the Big Ten will take enough teams to get to 20.....
That's just asinine. I'm not exactly happy with the NCAA right now. It's just a terribly ran organization and is completely corrupt.
Eventually the football teams will pull away from the NCAA altogether. It will become a "league" of haves and thebottom 50 teams taht play D1 will fall back into D2.
The problem comes when the football schools do not equal the basketball schools from a even playing field/court. Let's use LSu as an example.
LSU football is a top notch competitor most years. Their basketball is horrible since Coach Dale Brown left. Does a top notch football team carry its basketball team into the break away group or does basketball stay as it is?
You could just as easily see the opposite. UK football most years is very bad. The basketball team competes at the highest levels - most years. Since football is so bad, would they be left out of break away group?
All this realignment crap is bad for the game. It leaves certain schools out but more than that, money takes precedence over rivalries. Louisville should Cinci every year, Duke should play UNC, etc... But as realignment takes place, those games may go by the wayside. That is not good for sports.
Regardless when it all plays out, the larger schools and competitive teams will be taken care of.

A simple question: is your butt jealous of the amount crap coming from your mouth?
Institutions won't leave the NCAA unless there is a united front and an alternative. If an individual program were to leave, then they would almost have to disband because the NCAA would not allow their members to play the banished team. They stand to lose too much money by claiming independence as well.
Has nothing to do with good or bad. It has to do with $$$$$$
Which is why you need the 3-4 super conferences...
1. Form Super conferences with the top 80 or so teams
2. Band together the super conferences (which only really requires them to agree to play one another in OOC games and in a post season playoff)
3. Have the super conferences leave the NCAA
4. Watch the NCAA cry a river
Simple in theory.
Uggh. This talk about Super Conferences makes me ill.
Regardless of how good UK is in football they won't be left out if a new league is formed because the school brings in too much $$ and fans travel well. Despite being less than spectacular UK routinely is in the top 25 in football attendance the last couple years being the exception.
