As per ESPN, he is the leading candidate and is expected to take the job in the next 24 hours.

Not sure how I feel about this. I think he is a good coach, not a great one. Stoops could beat him post Bridgewater. However, u can go ahead and write it down that Petrino will be his replacement. He is a GREAT coach, and will inherit a ton of big time skill position players. Worst case scenario for uk and Mitch.
Jurich was looking for reasons to oust Petrino near the end of year his tenure for constantly flirting with and seeking other jobs. It would take some serious pride swallowing from Jurich to go down that route again.
That bridge has long been burned. The UL administration completely blames Petrino for Krag failing there.Remember, Jurich and Steve were good buddies before he came to UL and Jurich holds Petrino directly responsible for having to fire a good friend.
Your obsession with uofl is bizarre.
I too am worried about Petrino, but not sure whether Juritch would take him back or not. Saw a bunch of UL fans saying they wanted Jay Gruden to replace Charlie. That would be perfect IMO, because he would likely make a good, but not great coach. He would keep them competitve enough to make them a worthy opponent, without making them too good.
Petrino will not be back at u l...Some of you are obsessed with that idea...Hog head is a win at all cost AD for sure but i cannot see him hiring Petrino after what went down..No way
Not saying that this doesn't end up to be the case ... but that's not what the ESPN report states. It says nothing about Strong being expected to take the job in any particular time frame ... only that he's the leading candidate.
Ouch..Strong to UT..nice to not have him nextdoor...but having him at a SEC east rival could be rather tougher. Anyway..Im just elated to have Mark Stoops. Cant wait to get this football program running next season..and find out what recruits Stoops and company can haul in on short notice in Febuary.
So who would you rather have as HC - Stoops or Strong?
Wonder if Joker is regretting moving for the FL job so early. You would have thought Strong would have put him on staff, maybe even as OC. Just can't see UL taking Petrino back. . . that would be nuts. . smart but a political disaster.
Props to UL for making it known everywhere that they are a stepping stone to the SEC.
Honestly? Stoops long term
Word is if Strong does indeed close the deal with Tennessee then Tee Martin is going as his O.C.
That's good news for the rest of the sec. As good of a guy, player and recruiter that tee is he isn't much of an actual coach.
I called that a week ago, although i thought the name that would bring Tee back would be bigger than Strong.
Perino back to UofL would be bizarre, but IMO not any more bizarre than Pitino going there. It could happen with that bunch.
I just can't see UofL and Jurich going back to Petrino. The more I've seen I don't think that anybody will hire Petrino, at least not as a head coach. Even though it's unspoken and not official, I think there's the equivalent of a black ball on Petrino right now. If he ever wants to be a head coach on the D-1 level again, I think he will have to earn it back first by working as an offensive coordinator or position coach for a few years.
Speaking of Petrino. I need to say something about my thoughts on Petrino a couple of weeks ago. Even if nobody actually reads this I will at least get it off of my chest .....................
A couple of weeks ago I vehemently explained how much I wanted Petrino to come to UK. I tried to explain why it was okay to hire him despite his past faults, and why he was the only hire that would work. I was all-in for Petrino at that point. Looking back, I simply can't believe that was really me saying those things. I'm extremely embarrassed that I allowed my fear of forever losing to overcome my common sense opinions. A week before I jumped on the Petrino bandwagon I thought the same things that I think about him now. He's a jerk, a liar, and not the type of person you'd ever want your kid learning anything about life from. It's easy for me to see now that hiring Petrino would have been an absolute disaster for the UK football program. So why did I lose my mind for about 2 weeks there. At that time there were all kinds of rumors about how coach after coach had been contacted and had "politely told Mitch thanks, but no thanks". I read that exact sentence probably a hundred times, and at some point I started to believe those rumors. I was so disgusted with always losing, and I was so scared that where the coaching search was going would lead us toward losing forever. Basically, my thoughts on the subject had become completely irrational, and I was ready to toss everything I hated about Petrino to the side just so that we could win.
Thankfully Mark Stoops had another plan entirely, and he sold that plan to Mitch. The rest, as they say, is history. I couldn't be any happier to have been completely wrong. Petrino to UK would have been a complete disaster from day one. Kentucky football would have been the punchline to every passive aggressive comment made by every sports anchor or columnist from coast to coast. Hiring Petrino would have divided the UK fans into two camps, and no amount of wins or time would have sold the Petrino haters that hiring him was a good thing. If it would have happened I'd have the worst possible case of buyers remorse right now, and I wouldn't have be alone. Nearly all of us that were advocating Petrino to UK would be sick to our stomach right now if it would have actually happened. I could go on and on forever about how dumb I was being to want Petrino. Even though it was mostly fueled by false rumors and I only thought it for a few days, I'll probably never be able to live down the shame I feel for saying Petrino to Kentucky was a good idea. I was more than ready to compromise everything just so we could possibly win, and I'll never be proud of that.
Thank God Mitch didn't listen to people being idiots, like me - LOL - Now we have one of the best young head coaches in the country, and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm one of Stoops Troops for sure.

I would think that Cholly would take his Louisville staff with him. That's unless Jurich would want to try Vance Bedford promoted to the HC position for a couple of seasons. With the uncertainty of the ACC football I would think that Louisville would have a hard time attracting a coach on Strong's level right now. They might be better off trying to keep as much of Strong's staff behind for a couple of years. Then if they're successful fine, but if not then they search for a coach with their conference situation more certain.
Shawn Watson to HC so he can keep working with Teddy would be an option for them as well.

Strong will not say anything untill after the bowl game. Per Strong
Sorry if I have said some things about you likeing Petrino in the past.
He would have made us look so bad. I do agree with you 100%.
Stoops needs the money behind him to be a winner here period
Wouldn't be surprised if Fedora from UNC gets that job
The he won't have the job. UT isn't waiting until after the Sugar bowl to name a coach.
I'd bet $50 that these ut rumors are about 75% strong just releasing info to leverage a huge raise from uofl. Ut fans will be underwhelmed with a strong hire. No pun intended.
Who cares, ultimately? Either he goes to UT and succeeds/fails, or he stays at UL and UL fans have to live with the fact that their HC thinks they should be more like UK fans.
I couldn't care less where Charlie Strong will be coaching next season. I know where Mark Stoops will be coaching, and I'm looking forward to it.
You are wrong.
KSR reports, Auburn background checks found more skeletons in BPs closet!! Even Jurich would never subject Lowsyville to that kind of degradation!!! Or would he...
