Just announced it on Twitter!
"Kentucky Football needs to be and will be a championship contender in the SEC."~Mitch Barnhart 11/4/12
Great walk-on. He could contribute in a couple of years.
"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." ~ Emerson
I'm happy we have him no doubt. I just hope he & his family are making the best emotion/financial decision giving up at least one scholarship offer. It's a pretty special decision.

Looking at his highlight video, he must of had a good QB throwing the ball to him.
That could be a good combo in a few years.
Great to hear!
If Austin ends up even paying 500 bucks a semester I would be very suprised. There are plenty of ways to get kids money, in compliance with the NCAA, out side of just your typical scholarship.
Thanks for the news Slinger!
Made my day Slinger!
Didn't he announce this months ago? I thought it was already a given.
There had been some scuttlebutt around him because OSU and Arkansas had offered preferred walk on's also.
Keep Calm & Stoops On..
thanks Mike, I missed that with my limited availability lately. Thanks. I'm glad to have him and can see him getting some PT far quicker than many expect--especially if Towles wins the QB job.
No problem, bro, I know how it is.
He was actually quoted in the LHL that he was having to change his options since things had changed for him in the last few months. I love it that he will get to play with Towles, chemistry between receiver and QB is a special thing no matter how great the talent.
Good news. I bet he becomes a contributor at some point in his career.
HE WILL WALK ON THIS YR AND GET THE RIDE NEXT YR.. PER CHRIS COLLINSWORTH...
WE TALKED ABOUT IT AT THE SUPER BOWL . HIS NAME CAME UP WHEN TALKING ABOUT TOWLES.
CHRIS LOVES THIS KID, SINCE WAS ALSO A WR OF COURSE YOU KNEW THIS LOL.
SAYS HE HAS SUPER HANDS AND IS A KID WHO RUNS SUPER ROUTES.
It would be nice to have a WR or two who will actually catch a pass. Of course, the more the merrier too. If they'll actually catch the passes thrown to them, unlike the group of WR's we have now who only seem to be "practice players", not real WR's, and certainly not SEC caliber WR's like most of the rest of the SEC has.

My advice to this kid would be to go where you are wanted.
The fact that UK did not extend a scholarship offer, but rather a preferred walk on offer to him, means he is "welcomed" but not "wanted".
Tomorrow never comes and a promise of a scholarship next year is not a guarantee. Especially with a coaching staff that should be in a must "win" situation.
Coaches play their recruits and the walk on is not one of their recruits. This is human nature.
I wish the kid all the success at UK, but if he had an scholarship offer elsewhere, that is where he should have began his college career. It was where he was "wanted".
His offers were from Butler (didn't know Butler even had a football team) and EKU. I'm guessing Sheehan wanted the opportunity to experience SEC football at a school he may have grown up rooting for. There was a local kid here a few years ago that had more than a few FCS & DII offers that spurned them to walk on at UT. He never played more than a handful of snaps while he was there, but said that if he had it do do over, he would do the same thing.
Really nice pick up. Reminds me of Welker with the Patriots.
Believe me, I fully understand all angles of this.
This issue strikes very close to home for my family, thus, my advice.
I understand that, but everyone is different. My guess is that Sheehan wants the chance to suit up for the team he grew up rooting for, and didn't want to go elsewhere, left to wonder "what if"......and there's nothing wrong with that...
Really good news for UK. I know he's a walk-on but this kid is a player and one I could see contribute in a couple years.
To be honest, I'm a little surprised. When I spoke to him around signing day, he seemed really enamored with the possibility of walking on at Arkansas or Ohio State.
Could the fact that Daylen Hall has been dismissed and opening up a scholarship played a part in Sheehan coming to UK?
I think so too.
I would just look at it by asking what is more important, playing in a lot of games, any games, or playing somewhere I always wanted to play even if I didn't get on the field as much. Honestly I would think just making the tour through the SEC even if you are on the bench would be more fun than suiting up every week against the OVC in front of a few thousand fans. Austin obviously has some skills and sounds like he will get a shot since you need a lot of guys playing receiver. Plus his good buddy is going to be at UK and possibly in the NFL in a few years. Austin is in school to get an education, play some ball, and have a good time. Just being at UK and meeting the people in athletics there is worth it and brings along a lot of life long opportunities. I would go to UK.
